RESEARCH METHODOLOGY

3.1. Research design

This study utilizes descriptive research design that aims to show the current status of

Golden Heritage Polytechnic College on the factors that affects the speaking performance and

speaking problems. A modified survey questionnaire of Yuehong Wei and Li Zhang (2013) and

Nguyen and Tran (2015) will be used.

3.2. Research Locale

The research was conducted at Golden Heritage Polytechnic College, Vamenta Blvd.,

Cagayan de Oro City.

3.3. Subject of the study

The respondents of this study will be the selected Second Year learners of Golden

Heritage Polytechnic College.

3.4. Data gathering procedure

Prior to the conduction of the study, the researcher send a letter to the School’s dean of

College in Education for the approval of the study. Upon the approval of the said letters, the

researchers set schedule for the school so that the school will have time to communicate with

the stakeholders. Purposive random sampling was employed. The conduct of the study

approximately lasted 1 month.

Upon the implementation, the survey questionnaire was distributed to the respondents

which include the following: Demographic information and perception of Speaking performance
in terms of Environmental conditions, Performance conditions, and Personal Conditions. The

questionnaire was adopted and modified from Yuehong Wei and Li Zhang (2013) and Nguyen

and Tran (2015). The modification of the parts of the questionnaire was made to insure to get

the appropriate information needed in the study.

The researchers prepared questions related to the factors affecting the speaking

performance and problems. Then, data gathered were analysed and afterwards concept

development followed.

3.5. Data analysis

The data collected was analysed descriptively.

3.6. Statistical tool

The tools that were used for this study is Weighted mean.
