I SPECIFICATION/DESCRIPTION
1. General
This lifeboat is a life-saving appliances specially designed in
accordancewith the latest regulations.
Construction, equipment and fittings satisfy the requirements
of the 1974 international Convention for the Safety of Life at
Sea as amended in 1983 and other regulations provided by the
Classification Society.
The boat is equipped with a fixed enclosure which is totally
enclosed and protects the boat and crew against heat, smoke and
noxious gas during escape from oil fires at sea.
The boat is also equipped with water-cooled marine diesel engine
and sufficient fuel for 24-hours operation. The boat can be
propelled as fast as 6 knots, fully loaded with crew and equipment
while spraying water.
High pressure air-reservoir installed in the bottom supplies the
crew and engine with fresh air during lowering and navigation.
The lifeboat presents sufficient stability and sea-worthiness,
maintaining positive stability even when flooded and open to the
sea, owing to the buoyant materials installed in the boat.
The enclosure is designed to provide ample space for crews
occupying the boat. The enclosure has a large hatch, convenient for
rapid embarkation and disembarkation.
Self-extinguishing FRP materials, made of fire-resistant resins
are used for the hull and enclosure.
The lifeboat possesses dual capabilities as a rescue boat.

The purpose of equalizing·charge is to equalize conditions of active materials
in the plates and charging state of each individual cell.
Once 1-3 months, perform a constant voltage charge as shown in following.
±)j ~ 3C ~ 1t[ EE t 3C 1r! B~ rB~ 0) lMl f*'
Relationship between equalizing charge and charging time
-29 -
2- 2. jE~iii1t~:1J~
Constant current charge method
Charge the battery at a constant current 1/10 of its 5 hours rate capacity -
UQtil all cells produce many bubbles, and until three or more consecutive
reading of the terminal voltage and specific gravity taken every 30 minutes
show no increase and its electrolyte shows the maximum' specific gravity.
This method is very effective when the discharged ampere-hour of the battery
is known because the charging rate can be determined before - hand - typically
120 - 130% of discharged ampere-hour. Do not forget to disconnect the charging
power source when the battery is completely charged, or it will continue feed-
ing the same amount of current to the battery, overcharging the battery.
Charge the battery at a constant current 1/10 of its 5 hours rate capacity.
Once the battery reads 14.5 - 15V, it will be subsequential charged at this
voltage;' In other words, the battery is charged at a constant current until
its capacity is recovered to 80 - 90% and then at a constant voltage with a
gradually decreasing current.
This method has an advantage in that damage to the battery is fairly small
even if the charging source is left disconnected after complection of a full
charge.
2-4. ~jE~EE1E~:1J~ :
Modified constant potential charge method
- 30-
The c~arging characteristics of modified constant potential charge are similar
to those of the constant potential current regulated charge.
However, during this charging process the charge voltage rises as the charging
current decreases since this kind of battery chargers are not equipped with
regulation circuits that would otherwise maintain the charging voltage and
current at a constant level.
In this charging system, when the supply voltage to the charger and the
battery ambient temperature drastically change, caution is necessary in that
an excessive flow of the current causes the battery damage.
