Standard: ELA.3.14 Compare and contrast the themes, settings, and plots of literary stories
written by the same author about the same or similar characters (e.g., in books from a series).
ELA.3.17 Compare and contrast the most important points and key details presented in two
informational texts on the same topic.
Introduction:
Begin by reviewing the spelling words by completing the spelling test practice in the packet.

There are four levels in depth of knowledge. From level 1, the teacher will zone in on recalling and will have
students recall the information they have learned to complete a spelling review. From level 2, the teacher will
zone in on relating and will have students relate what they have learned to the vocab review. From level 3, the
teacher will zone in on assessing and will have students complete a series of questions about their Leveled
Reader books. From level 4, the teacher will zone in on creating and will have students create an information
writing piece.
Guide students through Vocab Review Sheet 3 (and whatever is left of sheets 1-2)
Independent Practice:
Students will independently complete the Thursday Author’s Purpose page in their packet.
Students will work with a partner to answer questions about their Leveled Reader Books.
Students will continue to work on their informational writing piece at 2:00. (Break into two smaller
groups at this time.)

the 3 Tiers. Be sure you are specific)
Evaluation/Assessment:
Students will demonstrate mastery of the standards by independently completing an end of the unit test
with 80% accuracy.
