• ISO stands for International Organization for
Standardization.
• It was founded in 1946 in Geneva, Switzerland,
where it still based.
• It is an independent, non-governmental
international organization with a membership of
161 national standard bodies.
• The objective of ISO is to provides guidance and
tools for organizations who wants to certify their
product and services.
• The ISO doesn't certify organization itself.
• To become certified, you need to contact a third-
party, that will audit your organization and
determine whether or not your process, product
and services fulfill ISO criteria.
 ISO Series
• ISO developed a series of international standard for quality
systems. Some of them are as follow:
• ISO: 9000 Series: For Quality Management (Customer
Satisfaction)
• ISO: 14000 Series: For Environment Management.
• ISO: 50001 : For Energy Management.
• ISO: 31001 : For Risk Management.
 ISO: 9000 Series
• ISO: 9001 is the first standard of the ISO 9000
family.
• If an organization bills themselves as "ISO 9001
Certified," this means that the organization has met
all the requirements designated under ISO 9001 to
produce product or service.
 ISO: 14000 Series
• Each organization have some responsibilities
towards environment.
• If they are fulfilling these responsibilities then they
can get this certification.
• ISO: 14001 is the first standard of the ISO 14000
family.
• If an organization bills themselves as "ISO 14001
Certified," it is means that organization fulfilling all
the environmental responsibilities.
• i.e. their product and service don't affect air, water
and land.
 ISO: 50001
• Energy is critical to organizations.
• World energy consumption continues to rise.
• ISO 50001 certification ensure that organization is
using energy in more efficient way.
 ISO: 31001
• ISO:31001 certification means organization is able
to manage the probability of occurrence of adverse
event.
• ISO: 31001 certification can help organizations to
increase the likelihood of achieving objectives.
