Tiyaan. The most brilliantly executed film on religion and god-men of last century.

Even if the

movie discussed the biggest issue of its time, it has gone out of sight without seeing the spotlight. If

introduced in the north with sufficient marketing, the film had all potential to go banned just like

most of the honest movies. The movie deals with an evident truth that all religions have the same

retrospect of god. The scene in which the lead, Aslam bhai(Prithviraj), after a long intuitive

conversation with the his guru bides farewell using the salutations of their opposite culture: Allahu

Akbar, Om nama Shivay, passes chills to any true secularist who is fed up with the riots in our

country.

Tiyaan, penned by Murali Gopi, also has an aura of a fanboy film at times to spice the otherwise

despised theme. The notion of Thathvamasi, meaning you are god, is emphasised in the movie

imparting self-motivation to the lead and morally confronting the audience. The movie placed in a

xerophytic condition in Uttar Pradesh sets a bleak background. The lead, Patabhi Rama

Giri(Indrajith), is also a decedent of actual followers of Adi Shankara. As a true Brahmin

complying to karma and dharma, he lives in the banks of Yamuna with his wife and daughter. The

polluted atmosphere of the scrupulous village, corrupt police officers and meek villagers draws the

village into a hostile condition making it vulnerable to God-men who arrives there to start a new

ashram. The obscene plays behind his power and the cooperate hands lurking behind his domain are

uncovered.

The film truely demonstrates the blind pilgrimage of our age behind obnoxious men like him who

run goon systems misusing faith. The story stays true to the spiritual wealth of Sanadhana dharma

and the importance of religion even if the popular idea of religion is being scrapped. The concept

that life never becomes futile for a good human being also promotes a healthy mindset. Even so, the

background music of the movie does not do justice to the theme. There are alse some supernatural

elements that could have been presented better. Given that it has some flaws, the film makers should

be appreciated for their courage to attempt such a theme. It is sad that the movie had to go

unnoticed with its relevant ideas.
