HEART FAILURE
IT IS A CHRONIC CONDITION
IN WHICH HEART MUSCLE
CANNOT PUMP ENOUGH
BLOOD
HOW DOES IT
AFFECT THE
BODY?
Enlarging- The heart stretches to
contract more strongly and keep up to
pump more blood.
Developing more muscle mass-
Because the contracting cells of the
heart get bigger, this lets the heart
pump more strongly, at least initially.
Pumping faster- increase the heart’s
output.
TREATMENT
MEDICINES
SURGERY AND MEDICAL DEVICE OPTIONS (BYPASS SURGERY)
CARDIAC RESYNCHRONIZATION THERAPY (CRT)
HEART TRANSPLANT
HEART VALVE SURGERY
IMPLANTABLE CARDIOVERTER-DEFIBRILLATOR (ICD)
INFARCT EXCLUSION SURGERY (MODIFIED DOR OR DOR PROCEDURE)
VENTRICULAR ASSIST DEVICE
HEART ATTACK
OCCURS WHEN THE FLOW
OF BLOOD TO THE HEART IS
BLOCKED
HOW DOES IT
AFFECT THE
BODY?
Forcing - into stress mode, which
makes you feel ill.
Damaging - without oxygen, the heart
muscle begins to die and scar tissue
forms there instead
Leading - irregular heartbeat, heart
rupture, heart failure, leaking heart
valves, low blood pressure and swelling
of the heart sac.
TREATMENT
ASPIRIN - REDUCES BLOOD CLOTTING

STATINS - CONTROL YOUR BLOOD CHOLESTEROL

CORONARY ARTERY BYPASS SURGERY - ALLOWING BLOOD FLOW

CORONARY ANGIOPLASTY AND STENTING - KEEP YOUR ARTERY OPEN.
