Bishop Verzosa’s Cause for Sainthood takes a new step

ILOCOS SUR, Philippines – In a mass commemorating the death anniversary of the

Servant of God, Alfredo F. Verzosa on Wednesday, the Archdiocese of Nueva Segovia
announced that the Vatican already issued a decree of validity for the sainthood bid of
the first Ilocano bishop.

Archbishop Emeritus Ernesto Salgado read the English translation of the decree issued
by the Vatican Congregation for the Causes of Saints (CCS) to the lay faithful gathered
for the celebration.

In a facebook post, Fr. Ericson Josue explained the decree further.

“Through the said decree, the dicastery has recognized the validity of the documents
and interviews collected attesting to the life of Heroic Virtues and Fame of Sanctity of
the Servant of God, Alfredo Verzosa,” he said.

According to Fr. Josue, the writing of the “Positio” – the official documentation of the
Cause can now be written as the inquiry conducted by the Special Tribunal established
by the Nueva Segovia Archdiocese was also affirmed.

In the website of the Catholic-themed Eternal Word Television Network, it says that
when the position is finished, the theological commission who are the first to see the
document votes affirmatively or negatively on the Cause. The affirmative vote will then
continue the process by passing it to the cardinals or members of the Congregation who
in turn vote. The life of the Cause will continue if they will vote affirmatively. After that,
the recommendation is sent to the Holy Father for his approval of the Decree of Heroic
Virtues.

Once the Pope approves it, here then that the Servant of God becomes Venerable
which means that the candidate is now worthy of veneration, another new step for the
sainthood bid.

Now that the process for Bishop Verzosa’s Cause for Sainthood takes a new step, Fr.
Josue asks for continued prayers saying that there is more in the way.

“We continue praying. The work is not yet in the halfway,” he said.

ILOCOS SUR – Binasa ni Arsobispo Emeritus Ernesto Salgado sa mga

mananampalataya ng Nueva Segovia ang Decree of Validity na inilabas ng Vatican
bilang bahagi ng mga hakbangin tungo sa pagiging santo ni Servant of God, Alfredo
Verzosa.

Sa isang misa bilang pag-alala sa ika-63 taong anibersaryo ng kamatayan ng Obispo,

malugod na ibinahagi ang balita.

Ayon kay Fr. Ericson Josue na gumawa ng pahayag sa kaniyang Facebook account,
ang Decree of Validity ay nangangahulugang pinatotohanan na ang mga dokumentong
nagsasaad sa Heroic Virtues and Fame of Sanctity ng Obispo.

Sinabi din ni Fr. Josue na kasabay ng Decree ay pinagtibay na ang inquiry na

isinagawa ng Special Tribunal na itinatag ng Arkdiyosesis ng Nueva Segovia kung saan
maaari na ring simulan ang pasusulat ng opisyal na dokumentasyon o ang tinatawag na
“Positio” para sa Cause for Sainthood ng nasabing Obispo; isa sa mga hakbang para sa
inaasam na pagiging santo nito.

Nananawagan naman si Fr. Josue ng mga patuloy na panalangin para sa Obispo at sa

mga ginagawang proseso dahil mahaba-haba pa raw ang daang tatahakin.

Para naman sa apo ng Obispo na si Mayor Roque Verzosa, Jr., isang magandang
balita ang Decree mula sa Vatican.

“Sobra kaming natutuwa dahil mabilis ang nagiging proseso at ngayon ay humihingi
kami ng prayers para sa ikakakamit ng pagiging opisyal na Santo ni Obispo Verzosa,”
