 Survey and design cast
o Rules to remember:
 Maxillary Major Connectors
 6mm from FGM
 Palatal strap at least 8mm wide
 Mandibular Major Connectors
 3mm from FGM
 Lingual Bar
 4-6mm in width
 (Need 7mm from FMG to vestibule)
 RPI
 I-bar
i. Comes up at a 90 degree angle
ii. 3mm of space from bar to FGM
iii. 1mm of space from FGM to undercut
iv. 2mm of space from undercut to height of contour
 R = rest on MESIAL
 P = proximal plate
 0.01”

o Arm that engages undercut:
 Begins above HOC
 Last 1/3 engages undercut, under HOC

 Fabricate maxillary custom impression tray using triad resin

o Mark on cast:
 Center of incisive papilla
 Center of posterior ridge
 Midline
o Mark depth of vestibule in blue & outline of tray in red
 Red line 2mm shorter than blue but extend over back palate
o Block out undercuts with wax & on rugae
o Apply Vaseline on cast
o Place traid in palate and adapt around
o Trim material to red line
o Smooth borders
o Maxillary tray handle (page 8):
 10-15 mm wide mesio-distally in anterior teeth region
 3-5 mm thick bucco-lingually
 22 mm long
 Inclined slightly labially
o Cure for 4 mins
o Take off cast & cure again

 Fabricate mandibular record base & wax occlusal rim

 Retromolar pad posteriorly
 Upper 2/3 of retromolar pad
 Ascending ramus of mandible
 Center of posterior ridge
o Record Base:
 Block out undercuts with wax
 Apply Vaseline on cast
 Cut V-shaped wedge out of middle of triad (pink triad)
 Adapt to cast and smooth edges
 Cure for 4
 Take off case & cure again
 Smooth edges
o Occlusal Rim
 Height of rim 15-18 mm from anterior border of baseplate
(depth of vestibule) to incisal edge
 Width:
 3-5 mm in anteriors
 5-7 mm in premolars
 8-10 mm in molars
 Posterior intersects at retromolar pad 2/3 height & beveled
posteriorly and inferiorly (pictures on page 36-37)
