PROCEDURE

Heating of Liquids

 Without Agitation

Open the agitator drainage valve located at the bottom of the tank to remove any
remaining liquid. Close the drainage valve and fill the agitator tank with 1.5 L liquid.
Open the condensate valve located at the back of each tank. Inject the steam into the
system by opening the steam valve from the boiler pipeline for each of the three tanks.
Measure and record the temperature and pressure inside the vessel as well as the
condensate volume and temperature every 4 minutes.

 With Agitation

Before starting the experiment, open the steam drainage valve to remove all the
steam in the system. Then, open the agitator drainage valve located at the bottom of the
tank to remove any remaining liquid. Close the drainage valve and fill the agitator tank
with 1.5 L liquid. Open the condensate valve located at the back of each tank. Activate
the agitator motor for the rubber-lined, lead-lined and galvanized tanks to account for the
effects of agitation in heating of liquids. Inject the steam into the system by opening the
steam valve from the boiler pipeline for each of the three tanks. Measure and record the
temperature and pressure inside the vessel as well as the condensate volume and
temperature every 4 minutes. Afterwards, close the agitator motor and the steam inlet
valve.

Cooling of Liquids

 Without Agitation

Use the hot liquid in the tank from the previous heating without agitation process.
Close the steam valve to prevent any steam from entering the system. Open the
condensate valve located at the back of each tank. Inject the cooling water into the system
by opening the cooling water inlet valve for each of the three tanks. Measure and record
the temperature and water inlet flowrate as well as the condensate temperature every for 4
minutes. Afterwards, close the cooling water inlet valve and drain the tank of its
remaining liquid by opening the agitator drainage valve.
