Background: Hypertension is often referred to as an assassin (silent killer) because without
any prior symptoms as a warning to its victims. The incidence of hypertension in Indonesia based on the National Health Research Association (2007) in the population aged > 18 years of 29.8%. Rejang Lebong for the year 2010 there were 6405 patients with hypertension and for the working area Sembirejo Health Center reported that there were 720 patients with hypertension. Nonpharmacologic treatment is the provision of cooked celery (Apium graveolens) is one of a kind of herbal therapy to deal with hypertension. Objectives: To determine differences in blood pressure before and after administration of decoction of celery in patients with hypertension at health centers working area Sambirejo 2012. Methods: Quasi-Experiment Pretest-posttest design with control group. The technique is non-probability sampling with purposive sampling. Statistical tests used were t-dependent (paired t test). Sample of 74 people, namely people with hypertension are listed in the register book Sambirejo Year 2011-2012 Community Health Center. Results: In the intervention group there are differences in the value of the t test, with a value of P = 0.000 for systolic and diastolic pressures mean that there is a decrease in the intervention group differences in blood pressure with an average value of 23.78 to 18.65 for systolic and diastolic pressure, whereas for the control group obtained the value P value greater than the value of α (0.05) shows that in the control group there was no decrease in blood pressure. Discussion: It is expected to have hypertension can use celery stew as a blood pressure-lowering drugs. Keywords: Hypertension, Celery Stew.
