Simple low-price server consolidation and extension of

the internal storage capacity.

PRIMERGY SX storage blades are installed together with PRIMERGY server blades in the PRIMERGY BX
chassis. The introduction of storage blades is a simple and low-priced way to consolidate servers. Above
all, small and medium-sized companies usually have rack and tower servers which offer a high degree
of capcity regarding local hard disks. The use of storage blades equipped with tape drives is a simple
and quick method to backup system data locally. Having local access to large amounts of data is often
necessary, for example, in the world of computer-aided engineering (CAE), where smaller local workgroups
have to access and create very large models. Examples for using storage blades are operation within
limited environments as a file server or for Microsoft® SharePoint portals.
PRIMERGY SX650 Storage Blade
The Fujitsu PRIMERGY SX650 storage blade acts as storage subsystem for the PRIMERGY BX620 server
blades. The SX650 storage blade has 5 slots for 2.5 inch SAS or SATA hard disk modules and uses one
slot in the PRIMERGY BX600 S3 base unit. One or two SX650 storage blades can be connected to a
BX620 server blade. The storage capacity of a BX620 server blade can thus be increased to 3,200 GB. A
server blade is connected to the storage blade via an SAS cable that is connected to the front.

An extension is the PRIMERGY Storage NAS Appliance. A Network Attached Storage Appliance with a
BX620 server blade, a PRIMERGY SX650 and a pre-installed Microsoft Windows Storage Server operating
system. Microsoft Windows Storage Server offers File Services which are set up on the reliable and
flexible File Services in Windows Server 2008. The NAS Appliance offers a solid solution for medium-
sized companies; easy-to-use and with powerful functions on a sophisticated basic platform and industry
standard hardware.
An additional advantage is the minimum installation effort and the time required up to initial operation.
The maximum storage capacity of the NAS Appliance can be doubled by the easy connection of a second
storage blade to the existing configuration.
