A)
- I do not agree with the 1st statement (Some people study all their life….) because the purpose
of studying is knowing how to work effectively, which requires critical thinking.
- I agree with the 2nd statement (Học sinh Việt Nam sợ bị hỏi…) to a certain extent. Teachers
usually “expect” their students to give a mechanical / specific answer. And if the students’
answer do not meet the expectation, the students might be scolded, or asked to change to their
answer. Apparently, this is not only our country’s problem, but also through out most Asian
countries.
B) Personally, the most powerful question is WHY because in order to answer the question of
why something happens that way, we have to answer all the other questions first (what, when,
how,…)
C) We have 2 types of thinking:
- Critical thinking: seek for reasons, solve problems cognitively
- Creative thinking: come up with new ideas, look at problem from a different perspective, think
outside of the box.
D) Critical thinking is the ability to analyse information objectively, to understand the logical
connection between ideas and to make rational decision.
In “Critical-thinking_Introduction-Lecture1_part4.flv”
A) The gateway standard of critical thinking is Clarity.
B) Imagine cases:
- That student did not study the right reference, meaning that the test might have
questions/problems that the student had not looked into yet.
- Due to external/personal effect (stomachache, headache, late for the exam,...).
In “Critical-thinking_Introduction-Lecture1_part5.flv”
A) The logic in the example about the Superman:
If one agrees that: “Superman sees through anything”, he/she also agrees with everything that
lies under the ANYTHING catergory.

B) I do agree with that statement (Superman sees through anything). Superman is a fictional
character, created by human beings. Therefore, Superman has the ability to do anything within
our imagination.
