Topic – False Pride.

Ramaa Paranjpe is 58 years old woman who lives with her son Siddhesh who is a
young 25-year-old guy. They have lived in this chawl for years. Ramaa loves her son a lot and
calls him Siddhu. She is an illiterate single mother and has raised Siddhesh on her own by
doing maid work at others houses. She has raised him with a very strict upbringing. Ramaa
is conservative and has very rigid sense of honour. Siddhu has also been a good son and has
always upheld that honour. He has done well in academics and got a government job.
Ramaa is proud of her son. But all his life, Siddhu has only listened to his mother and never
taken decisions on his own. He trusts people easily and takes them for their word.
Siddhu is married to Rashmi, a young girl from their own community who also works
a government job. This is also ‘a aa s hoi e. ‘a aa is proud to ha e a edu ated a d
earning daughter-in-law. Siddhu works as a Junior Pest Control officer. The job of his
department is to visit hotel and buildings to inspect them for pest infestation etc. Siddhu
and his colleagues from the department are in contact and friendly with a lot of builders and
hoteliers because of this job. One such Hotelier is Jatin Sukheja. He is friendly with Siddhu.
News of demonetisation hits the country. Jatin Sukheja, who has lots of illegal
businesses, comes up with a scheme to safeguard his black money. He lends the money to
his contacts. Some agree to this for greed, keeping a percent of money, while Jatin lies to
others, one of them being Siddhu, who is happy to lend a helping hand to his friend.
One day, Police arrive at Siddhu s home and they arrest him on charges of hiding
black money, as an accomplice of Sukheja. While Rashmi is worried for husband, Ramaa is
furious. She feels betrayed by Siddhu, her honour and pride are hurt. As neighbours and
relatives gather to be supportive, all she can sense is suspicion and condensation from those
people. She feels humiliated. When Siddhu is bailed out of jail and comes home with
Rashmi, Ramaa beats him with broom and throws him out of her home. Siddhu is devasted.
Rashmi leaves with Siddhu.

Siddhu tries to convince his colleagues at job and everyone he sees that he is
innocent, with no success. He is suspended from the job. He is being made patsy for the
whole scandal, While, Jatin Sukheja remains untouched because of his reach and power.

pain.
Angry and dejected, Siddhu ends up at Jatin Sukheja s office to confront him. He tries
to assault Sukheja but is thrown out on street. Siddhu is out of his senses and walks
randomly onto road where he is hit by a truck. He is hospitalised and is in critical condition.

Hearing this news, Ramaa finally gives up her anger and visits her son. She breaks down
crying. Siddhu does t sur i e. His last ords are – Aai!
