Kindergarten Project Week 1

Project: Watercolor Castles

Learning Target: I can create the base of my castle by drawing different shapes in different sizes.

Materials Needed:
Sketch Paper
Pencil
Crayon
Watercolor paint (or marker/colored pencil)

Criteria Steps:
❏ Lay a large piece of white sketch paper on a flat surface
❏ Using a pencil draw a horizontal line across the bottom of the paper, being careful not to touch either side. This will be the
base of the castle.
❏ Draw the sides to the two towers by drawing two long vertical lines up from the ends of the horizontal line.
❏ Complete the two towers by drawing a short line across the top of each tower and then all the way down to the first line. It
will look two tall rectangles connected by one long horizontal line.
❏ About 3 inches down from the top of the two towers draw another horizontal, straight line connecting the two. This will
create the face of the castle
❏ Draw a castle line along the top of the face of the castle (a battlement line)
❏ Draw a triangle on the top of each tower.
❏ Draw windows for your castle by drawing rectangles at various points on your towers and the face of your castle
❏ Draw doors.
❏ Draw a horizon line, extending out from each side of the castle that extends to the sides of the paper.
❏ Add bricks and flags and other details.
❏ Finish adding any details to your castle you’d like
❏ Choose two different colored crayons. Both colors should be dark enough to hide your pencil lines.
❏ Trace all of your pencil lines by placing the crayon tip directly on top of your pencil lines and slowly following the lines as
carefully as you can
❏ Switch between the two crayon colors as frequently as you would like until all of your pencil lines are covered with crayon
wax.
❏ Finish tracing any remaining pencil lines.
❏ Using watercolor paint, carefully paint each part of your castle focusing on staying inside of the lines and switching colors
frequently to make the castle more visually interesting.
