El TOMAL mantiene la util dicotomia entre memoria verbal y no verbal, que ha constituido el grueso de la investigacién sobre este tema durante mas de 30 afios. Incorpora, ademas, subescalas clinicas que ayudan a evaluar varios aspectos clinicamente importantes de la funcién de la memoria. La bater/a principal consta de 10 subtests (5 verbales y 5 no verbales) formalmente divididos en una Escala de Memoria Verbal y una Escala de Memoria No Verbal. La combinacion de estas escalas forma una Escala de Memoria Compuesta. Existen ademas otros cuatro subtests complementarios (3 verbales y 1 no verbal) que pueden substituir a uno de los subtests de la bateria principal cuando alguno de éstos no se haya aplicado por diversos motivos. La bateria estandar permite el calculo de los indices de Memoria Verbal, Memoria No Verbal, Memoria Compuesta y Recuerdo Demorado. Ademas el uso de los cuatro subtests complementarios permite el calculo de los indices de Recuerdo Secuencial, Recuerdo Libre y Atencién/Concentracion. i
