Starlight Mittens

32” Circular needles and DPNs: US 7 (4.5 mm) 17 sts x 24 rows = 4” x 4”
and US 8 (5 mm)

2 skeins of Starlight color 07 The mittens are worked from the wrist
up. The thumb is added at the end.

Sizes: These are worked using the magic

Women (Men) loop technique.

Left Mitten
CO 36 (42) sts on the smaller needle US 7 (4.5mm) and work in the round in rib pattern *k1,
p1 * until the piece measures 1 ½ in.

Change to the larger needles US 8 (5 mm) and work in stockinette (k all sts) until the piece
measures 3 ½ in.

Increasing for the thumb

*YO on both sides of the first st of the row. On the next row, work the YOs tbl *.
Repeat from * to * a total of 3 times, with 2 more sts between the YOs = 9 sts for the thumb.
Place these 9 sts on a piece of scrap yarn. They will be used later to work the thumb.
On the next round, CO 1 st where these sts have been set aside. = 36 (42) sts

Work in the round until the piece measures 7 ½ (8 ¼) in.

Decreasing
Place a marker at the beginning of the round and again after 18 (21) sts.
Work the decreases on either side of the marker:
At the beginning of the next round: k2tog, k to 2 sts before marker, ssk, slip marker, k2tog, k
to 2 sts before marker, ssk.
Repeat this decreasing round on every other round until there are 16 (18) sts remaining.

Cut the yarn and weave in the ends.

Thumb
Place the 9 sts from before back onto the needle. Pick up 3 sts along the thumb hole = 12
sts. Work in the round in stockinette until the thumb measures 2 (2 ¼) in.
K2tog around until there are 6 sts remaining.

Cut the yarn and weave in the ends.

Right mitten
Work the same as the left mitten, but increase for the thumb on either side of the last st of
the row.
