Compile a list of 20 applications for an iPad or iPod which can be used to enhance reading
instruction for children and/or applications that can be used by the teacher to help manage the
classroom reading environment.

1. Raz Kids $99.95 for one year subscription

Raz-Kids is an online guided reading program that will boost students’ reading abilities.
This program is used for students ranging from Kindergarten to 5th grade. Raz Kids
offers over eight hundred books and includes comprehension quizzes after each text.

2. Word Wizard $2.99

Word Wizard is an application that helps children with word building and spelling. This
app is intended for children aged 4 to 10.

3. The Electric Company Wordball Free

The Electric Company Wordball is an application that is an educational game, which

teaches reading and spelling. The game is suited for any child that is learning to read so
the ages can vary.

4. BOB Books #1 $3.99

BOB Books #1 is an application that teaches children early phonics. This application is
intended for children from 3 to 9 years old.

5. Aesop’s Quest $0.99

Aesop’s Quest is an educational game where students read a story. Once the story is
read, students have to complete the puzzle with story elements in order to move on to
the next story. This application is for children in 2nd to 6th grade.

6. Question Builder $5.99

 Question Builder is an application created to help children practice answering abstract
questions and answering questions based on inference. This application is intended for
students in grades Kindergarten to 5th grade.

7. ABC PocketPhonics $6.99

ABC PocketPhonics is an application that can help children with letter sounds, writing,
and sight words. This application is intended for children 4 years old and up.

8. Booksy $0.99

Booksy is an application that helps children practice reading and reading

comprehension. This application is intended for children in Kindergarten to 2nd grade.

9. Learn to Read! Free

Learn to Read! is an application that includes sight word flash cards to help students
read. This application is intended for students in Kindergarten to 2nd grade.

10. Phonics Easy Reader Free

Phonics Easy Reader is an application which allows children to practice phonics skills
and read stories independently or have a story read to them. This application is intended
for early readers.

11. Interactive Alphabet $2.99

Interactive Alphabet is an application that has a matching game for young children. This
application is intended for children in PreK-2nd grade.

12. MiniMod Fact or Opinion Lite $3.99

MiniMod Fact or Opinion Lite is a bingo game. Children are given a passage and they
have to decide if it is a fact or an opinion. This application is intended for students in
grades 2nd-6th.

13. Bookworm $1.99

Bookworm is a spelling and vocabulary word search game. This application is intended
for students in grades 2-4.
14. Chicktionary Free

Chicktionary is a spelling and vocabulary game. Children have to make as many words
as they can with only seven letters. This application is intended for students in grades
2-4.

15. SUPER WHY! $7.99

SUPER WHY! is an application filled with fun reading activities such as letter hunts and
tracing letters. This application is intended for students in lower elementary.

16. Word Magic $0.99

Word Magic is a spelling application where children have to find the missing letter in a
word. This application is intended for students in K-2.

17. C is for Cow $0.99

C is for Cow is an alphabet game where children can press an animal and the
application will say the name of the animal and its beginning letter out loud. This
application is intended for children in Pre-K.

18. The Opposites $1.99

The Opposites is an application that lets children practice vocabulary. Children match
opposite words. This application is intended for children in grades 3-12.

19. Wurdle $1.99

Wurdle is a crossword game, where children have to find as many words as fast as they
can. This application is intended for children in 1st-3rd grade.

20. Word Sort $2.99

Word Sort is an application that can be used to practice parts of speech. This application
is intended for children in PreK-4th grade.
