Self-efficacy (300 words)

Self-efficacy is the belief or confidence of personal performance or ability will result in a desired
outcome. Individuals vary a great deal in their level of self-efficacy. It has been shown that high self-
efficacy substantially rises the chance of achieving success. Self-efficacy has a great impact on the
attendance of the task, how much effort people put in the task and their persistence performance,
when the task is hindered or there are difficulties in achieving the it, perhaps there is no progress.
There is a great deal of importance in having a high level of self efficacy, as it is predicting the
educational achievement. (Lane and Lane 2001). Self efficacy aid us in self motivation and self
regulation, to maintain resilience in the difficult times. It is helping us face failure, and to stand up
from it and try again. Self efficacy is expectations that goals can be reached through actions. This
belief affect the behaviour, and expectations of personal capability. (Bandura 1997) General self
efficacy are associated with interpersonal competence, personal control, self esteem and coping
ability (Bandura, 1997). It is measured with the Motivated Strategies for Learning Questionnaire
(MSLQ). Psychologists ask participants to judge their general confidence to perform successfully in a
specific subject, without giving information of any individual problems. A generic task is provided
that are frequently performed in most academic field, the MSLQ test. (MSLQ; Pintrich & De Groot,
1990). Participants are required to answer the questions on MSLQ. The MSLQ measures participants
self efficacy on generic statements by endorsement ratings on the statements, describing academic
events and specific fields. There are three statements asking to compare participants with their
peers abailities. Responses range from 1 (not at all true) to 7 (very true). Students rate their level of
agreement with the statements.
