Analysis:
The purpose of this meeting with Mr. Madan was to discuss the Original Work.
We scheduled this meeting to dive into the specifics of the Original Work. This included
going over the different parts of the product and how I am going to complete this
product. He guided me through the process of how to complete this model using the
tools I have. I noted the various technical skills that I will have to learn, but the major
takeaways from this meeting were that to be a successful data scientist one must
complete many projects as those will help in the future.
This takeaway may sound cliche and basic because the more projects you
complete, the more experience you gain. However, there is more to this takeaway than
just experience. I came across this takeaway when Mr. Madan and I were talking about
the various applications of this model in real life. We came to the conclusion that this
model can be utilized in any sport in the sports industry, but I wondered if I had to build
a whole new model for another sport when both models were similar. Mr. Madan
answered my question. Both models would require similar code as they both have the
same objective, which is to predict the salary. However, it is not as easy as it sounds
because there are different statistics to consider and these statistics have a different
impact on the algorithm when compared to the original model. The variables also differ,
so the regression used will vary. However, the process is very similar as both require
studying statistics that will impact the final algorithm and both require building
relatively similar models.
Therefore, it is important that a data scientist is actively trying to test his comfort
zone by attempting to solve a variety of problems. This way, the professional is actively
adding to his toolbox, which will help him solve more difficult problems that he will face
in the future.
