1. Can mobile communications cause cancer or other health problems?
ANSWER: So far, the best scientific evidence shows that using mobile
phones does not increase the risk of cancer. This non-ionizing radiation
does not have enough energy to damage DNA and cannot directly
cause cancer. But research is still continuing, to make sure there aren't
any potential long-term effects.
2. How do wavelengths work?
ANSWER: A wave is made of traveling energy. Wave size is measured in
wavelengths. The wavelength is calculated by determining the distance
between corresponding points on consecutive waves. Normally this is
done by measuring from peak to peak or from trough to trough.
3. What happens when refraction occurs?
ANSWER: Refraction occurs at the boundary of two media when light
travels from one medium into the other and its speed changes but its
frequency remains the same. If the light ray hits the boundary at an
angle which is not perpendicular to or parallel to the surface, then it
will change direction and appear to `bend'.
4. How does the fire alarm system work?
ANSWER: The fire alarm system can be set off automatically by smoke
detectors, heat detectors or manually. These sensors are set to detect
certain levels of heat or smoke that could be an indication of fire. When
smoke particles pass thru the chamber of the optical detector, it
scatters light that triggers the alarm.
5. Are CCTV cameras useful? Why? Do I need CCTV at home? Why or
why not?
ANSWER: Yes, because CCTV can act as a huge deterrent to criminals,
especially when it comes to pre-planned crimes. This means that
thieves are much less likely to target your home, helping keep your
belongings secure and increasing the safety of your family.
