Manuscript title “Thermal and thermo-mechanical modelling for frictional braking
of elevator safety gear”

Comments to authors:

This paper reads very comfortable. I can easily understand the idea and techniques. The
motivation is clear to me. The results are comprehensive.
In general, the article is good and is interesting, but it requires a major revision. There
are some recommendations:

I recommend the authors when they revise their paper to make corrections and changes in
the manuscript must be made in red color, and to facilitate the examiner for further
consideration of it.
Therefore, the authors should revise the article by taking into consideration the following
comments.
 .In abstract only analysis procedure highlighted in detail but the obtained
significant results not included.
 Authors should improve the English of this paper, in order to enable readers to
understand the content of your paper easily; you should check your paper
carefully and revise the grammar mistakes. Indeed, there are many errors in this
document, some words are missing in several places, punctuation was not
observed along the paper also lacks a comma (,) and point in several places, some
sentences have meaning disorders and should be checked. Unsatisfied spacing
between the words and the quotation of the units in several places, we can cite by
way of example only :
- In page 1, Abstract , line 16, " device of elevator “ should be corrected to
“devices of the elevator”
- In page 1, Abstract , line 20, " carefully comprehend “ should be corrected to
“carefully comprehended”
- In page 1, Abstract , line 27, " deceleration agree “ should be corrected to
“deceleration agrees”
- In page 1, line 40, , " one of critical safety" should be corrected to " one the of
critical safety”
- In page 1, line 58, comma (,) is missing" braking distance and …." should be
corrected to " braking distance, and….."
- In page 1, line 59, , " Once the progressive safety" should be corrected to " Once
progressive safety”
- In page 2, line 5, , " From this point of view, the progressive safety" should be
corrected to " From this point of view, progressive safety”
- In page 2, line 55, , " friction surface was detect" should be corrected to "
friction surface was detected”
- In page 2, line 55, , "Previous study" should be corrected to " Previous studies”
- In page 3, line 17, , " A few of numerical investigations" should be corrected to "
A few numerical investigations”
- In page 3, line 24, , " and was found" should be corrected to " and were found”

Please, there are many other errors in this document in several places, please
carefully refine the English language.

1
 -Mixed quotation of the name of software (Ansys) along the document, once
(ANSYS) in one place and (Ansys) in another place. The FE software ANSYS
must be written in capital letter like this (ANSYS)
 The inserted equations are not readable and clear requires revision, please use
Word 2003 to edit all these equations is better, even there are many numbers and
symbols are poorly written and not consistent, sometimes in character bold in
several places, please use a simple font script in Word using the index and the
exponent and special characters for the symbols that are available in Word to
improve the presentation of the document.
 Only one simple flow chart is required to represent the steps-wise procedure
followed for carrying out the computational analysis.
 The authors should show the comparison between their results and previous
works.
 Authors should explain more about the novelty of their work in introduction,
 The quality of the figures in this document needs to be improved; the figures need
to be larger in size so the data and labels can be clearly read.
 The introduction section is adequate but needs some language revision.
 .The model developed by the authors is not entirely adequate and not accurate and
is based on assumptions that were not addressed by the authors. Key assumptions
and their implications could have been elaborated
 The thermomechanical boundary of the model are not clear in the document and
therefore they must be schematized in detail and interpreted more clearly in the
paper, this information must be added using a schema from calculation software
 The information of the adopted mesh of the model is given in the paper neither
number of element nor number of nodes nor the element used, The information of
the adopted mesh of the model is given in the paper neither number of element
nor number of nodes nor the element used,
The thermo-mechanical calculation is carried out into two stages with weak
coupling. The mainstream algorithm of thermo-mechanical coupling is a kind of
transient coupling method, and the method present in the manuscript is not
advanced.
 Mesh sensitivity analysis not written properly.
 In results and discussion, the authors should discuss on their results deeply. I
strongly recommend expanding: Introduction, Conclusions and the Results
sections. The aim should be to: 1) give a broader view of the literature on the
topic and the current state-of-the-art; 2) clarify and discuss the novelty and the
significance of the results obtained here, and compare them with those available
in the literature, also including discussions on potential applications; 3) complete
the manuscript with some additional, less basic results; 4) The authors should
show the comparison between their results and previous works.
 The citation of references pertaining to this work and the literature of the
document is very poor. The literature list should be expanded by adding extra
work related to the subject.
The following articles will be useful to the authors in their contribution in many

 The authors must provide a greater discussion of the results
 The conclusions should be re-written, they should be specific and should not
include as the initial paragraphs, which seems a summary, it must be enriched
about discussion on solving problem.
In conclusion, the publication of this paper in The Journal of Thermal Stresses could
be considered provided that the above-raised point will be addressed.

I look forward to receiving the revised version of this manuscript
