What is Interbank Mobile Payment Service (IMPS)?

Inter-bank Mobile Payment Service is a new facility added to Mobile Banking Service. It facilitates
funds transfer to an account of the beneficiary with a participating bank, based on beneficiary’s
Mobile Number and MMID.

What is MMID?
- MMID is a 7 digit number allotted by your Bank for receiving funds through IMPS. The bank will
allot MMID when you register your mobile number and account number in which you wish to receive
funds.
- If you have more than one account, you will get a separate MMID for each account.
- You have to share your mobile number and MMID with the remitter for receiving funds through
IMPS.

I wish to send money under IMPS? What are the basic requirements?
- You should be a registered user of Mobile Banking Service of the Bank.
- If you are not a user, please register yourself for mobile banking service. Three simple steps are
Get user id and default MPIN by sending SMS MBSREG to 9223440000 or 567676
Download mobile banking application on your mobile phone and change MPIN.
If do not have a java enabled mobile register for Mobile Banking Service through USSD or
SMS Banking.
Visit your Branch for activating your mobile banking service
Get beneficiary’s Mobile number and MMID.

- Send money to the beneficiary following the menu options in the mobile banking
application.

Funds Transfer>IMPS-Mobile to Mobile Transfer>Payee mobile number>Payee MMID>Purpose


(Optional)>Amount>Select account to be debited>MPIN>Confirm

SMS Banking

Send a message to 9223440000 using the following keywords:

<IMPS><Mobile No>< MMID>< amount><User ID><MPIN><Purpose (Optional- 20 Char)>

USSD

If you are registered for the USSD service, after successful login choose the IMPS (option 7)
and respond as follows:

Enter the Mobile No of the payee


Enter the MMID of the payee
Enter the purpose
Enter amount
Enter the MPIN and complete the request
How to receive money under IMPS?

- Register yourself with your Bank for getting MMID.


- Share your mobile number and MMID with the remitter.
- Check the confirmation SMS for credit to your account from the remitter.

How do I get MMID? How do I register for Interbank Mobile Payment Service (IMPS)?

If you are registered for Mobile Banking Service, MMID will be allotted for the Primary account
enabled for Mobile Banking Service. For obtaining MMID in for other accounts, please visit your
Branch.

You can also generate MMID for all your accounts enable for Mobile Banking Service, through
menu option- IMPS- Generate MMID.

I do not have an ATM card. Is there any other way for getting MMID for my account?
You can visit the Branch and submit an application form for getting MMID. The MMID will be
advised to you over SMS on the mobile number used for registration.

How do I remit to the account holders in other Banks? Can I send the remittance to account
holders across all the banks in India?

Apart from SBI, some more Banks are participating. Please visit National Payments Corporation of
India (NPCI) website http://www.npci.org.in/bankmember.aspx to know about the names of the
banks participating in the Service.
Do I need to register the details of beneficiary before sending money?

No, there is no need to register the details of the payee before transferring funds.

How do I transfer funds through Interbank Mobile Payment Service?


To transfer funds using this Service, please follow the steps as under:

If you are using the application based service

- Open the mobile banking application with user ID


- Select Funds Transfer > Select IMPS -Mobile to Mobile Transfer > enter mobile number of the
payee > enter payee MMID (7digits) > enter purpose (optional) > enter amount > select account to
be debited. Choose OK.
- Enter MPIN
- Choose confirm and send the request

If you are availing the USSD service,

After successful login Choose option 7 for IMPS and respond as follows:

Enter the Mobile No of the payee


Enter the MMID of the payee
Enter purpose (optional)
Enter amount
Enter the MPIN and complete the request

If you are using the SMS banking

Send a message to 9223440000 using the following keywords:

<IMPS><Mobile No>< MMID>< amount><User ID><MPIN><Purpose (Optional- 20 Char)>

How do I make merchant payments through Interbank Mobile Payment Service?

This is available only under the application based service

Enter the merchant Mobile No


Enter the Merchant MMID
Enter amount transferred
Enter Payment Reference (optional)
Enter the MPIN and complete the request

What is the maximum amount I can remit using this service?

This remittance is subject to the daily/ monthly limit prescribed for Mobile Banking Service. The max
limit is Rs 50, 000/ per day, if you are using the application based service and Rs1000/- per day if
you are using the USSD / SMS Banking.

Why do I need MMID number?


When someone sends you money through IMPS using your mobile number and MMID, your
account is identified by the MMID.
I have 3 accounts and I want to receive funds in all accounts using my mobile number? What
do I have to do?
You have to register each account to get the MMID. The mobile number can be the same for all
your accounts.

If I have more than one account and I want to register all of them, do I need to give different
mobile number for each account?
You can give the same mobile number for all the accounts. The Bank will allot different MMID for
each account.

What are the charges?


Presently, there are no charges for using the facility.

I am using the Mobile Banking Service already. What is the extra benefit for me?

There are two definite benefits-


i. Funds can be remitted without registering the payee.
ii. Transfer of funds is in real time even for accounts maintained with other banks, in other words,
the service is available 24 x7.

What will happen if I enter a wrong MMID?


MMID has 7 digits. The first four digits identify the Bank and the last three digits identify the account.
i. If the first four digits of MMID are not valid, the transaction will be rejected.
ii. If the first four digits are valid i.e represent a Bank but not the intended Bank, your account will be
debited and then the entry will be reversed.
iii. If the first four digits are right and the last three digits are wrong, your account will be debited and
then the entry will be reversed.

What will happen if I forget my MMID?

You can retrieve the MMID for your account using any of the following methods. Please note
that the message should be sent only from the number, registered for receiving MMID:

Send the message MMID SBI to 9223440000 (for retrieving MMID for all accounts)

(Or)

Send the message MMID SBI account number to 9223440000 (for retrieving MMID for a
particular account)

If you are registered for Mobile Banking Service, using the application mode, please retrieve
the MMID for the accounts enabled for Mobile Banking through menu option- IMPS-
Retrieve MMID.

You can also use the following method for retrieving your MMID. You can call from any
number:

Call toll-free number 1800 425 3800.


Chose Mobile Banking (Option 5)
You will be attended to by Customer Service Representative.
Provide Mobile Number.
You will be asked to validate certain particulars.

In all the above cases, MMID(s) will be sent to the registered mobile number.
How to cancel or de register MMID?

Send SMS to 9223440000 in the following format. Please note to send the SMS only from the
registered number for MMID.

MMIDCANCEL SBI (for Cancelling MMID for all accounts)

MMIDCANCEL SBI account number (for cancelling MMID for a particular account)

If you are registered for Mobile Banking Service, using the application mode and wish to cancel the
MMID allotted to the account enabled for Mobile Banking, you may use the menu option available in
the Mobile Banking Service through option- IMPS- Cancel MMID

What is the procedure for changing the Mobile number registered for MMID?

For changing Mobile number, you have to deregister the MMID allotted earlier and register again for
the MMID with new Mobile Number.

I am a registered user of Mobile Banking Service. I have received the MMID for the accounts
registered for my Mobile Banking service, what will happen, if I change my mobile number
for MBS, using the Change Mobile number option? Should I de register by sending a
message for cancelling MMID and register again?

For changing Mobile number, you have to deregister the MMID allotted earlier and register again for
the MMID with new Mobile Number.

What are the other uses of MMID?

MMID can be used while making payments for goods/ services purchased online over
internet.

When you purchase goods/services over these sites, you will find an option ‘PAY through IMPS.
Use this option to make the payment for goods/ services purchased over internet. You will have to
generate an OTP (through the option Generate OTP) before you proceed for making the payment.

After the online purchase of goods/services is completed:

From the payment options Select “Payment through IMPS”

Enter your Mobile Number


Enter MMID
Enter the OTP.
Enter the amount

You will be advised regarding the status of the request.
