To,
Senior Advocate
Colin Gonsalves
New Delhi
You are invited for a meeting on 20th January 2020 at 2:00 P.M. in the JCC Office (Gate No.18) of Jamia
Millia Islamia in light of the forthcoming ‘Students’ tribunal’ in Jamia. This tribunal aims on Police Brutality
and the events that followed in and around the vicinity of university on 13 th and 15th of December, 2019 in
response to peaceful protests against CAA, NPR and NRC. On the same days, peacefully protesting students
in order to mark their dissent against the anti-humanitarian amendment of the Government were Lathi
Charged and used excessive force upon. The police alongside assaulting kept firing tear gas and Bullet shots
further forcing their way into campus premises while manhandling the students and touching the girls’ hostel
residents in objectionable manner. This Brutal assault on students led to fatal injuries resulting in
hospitalization of more than 300 students and locals on the intervening night when these unfortunate events
took place. The Police personnel went ahead and detained more than 80 students after having mercilessly
assaulted them in the Library within the campus. They further went on to indiscriminately vandalize the
library, teaching blocks, vehicles, washrooms and even mosques equally; security guards and Imam of
mosque who all were on duty were caught off-guard and beaten black and blue. Killings in Uttar Pradesh by
state machinery and blatant use of force in campuses such as Jamia and AMU represent nothing but the
saffron brigade working on the whim of communal government whose sole agenda is to make India a
“Hindurashtra.”
We, the student community of Jamia, are planning on holding a Students’ Tribunal regarding the
aforementioned gross violations of human rights. Towards this end, we humbly request you to kindly use all
possible measures accessible to you so that this tribunal would not go in vain and rather be an effective one.
Yours truly
Jamia Coordination Committee
