Welding/Class Summary (3/23)

Before welding, you should dress appropriately! Meaning a welding helmet (preferably

self-darkening), a welding jacket/apron, gloves, sturdy jeans, and work boots. You should always

have a grinder to ensure that the metal isn’t powder-coated or painted so that you can run a clean

bead on it. Keep the materials clean! Use a clean wire brush to clean the wire stick-out. Edges of

the materials should be straight and clean (no jagged edges). Set the voltage and the wire-feed

speed on the MIG, set your CO2 gas regulator, and set the wire stick-out to about ⅜”. When

welding, maintain a steady distance by touching the tip of the welder to the materials that you are

welding together. You can either run a straight bead or you can weave it back and forth. Too

slow of a wire-feeding speed, and it will burn back into the tip of the welder and make almost no

noise whatsoever. In short: take your time, take the necessary precautions, and get it done!
