3. Accomplishment Instructions
A. Modification Procedure
This service bulletin will update two components of the Tailwind 560 System in two types
of the System LRUs, the CPIF and the IRDMs. In the CPIF, the Content Database will
be loaded to provide Kingfisher-specific regional and channel mapping capabilities. The
IRDM will be loaded with an updated channel list, which enables Kingfisher-specific TV
programming access.
(1) Preparing the Tailwind 560 System for the Modification
(a) This update requires access to the Front Panels of the TW560 LRUs. Before
continuing, gain access to the CPIF and all RDU8 front panels on the aircraft.
(b) Place the TW 560 System Software Package CD-ROM (CPN 933000-909-1-002
Rev -) into the Maintenance PC and move the contents from the CD-ROM onto
the Maintenance PC’s desktop. There are two folders on the root directory of the
CD-ROM, one titled “CPIF” and the other titled “IRDM_-309”. The CPIF folder
contains the CPIF Content Database (933829-002-003 -.tld). The IRDM folder
contains two sub-directories named “IRD1” and “IRD2”. Both of these folders
contain the IRDM Channel List file (933819-002-002 -.cdf). These are the files
that will be loaded onto the TW560 System LRUs during this Service Bulletin
procedure.
(c) Connect the Maintenance Cable (P/N 933428-100-1) connector P2 to either the
CPIF Front Panel port or the Remote Access Maintenance Port in the VCC.
(d) Connect the Maintenance Cable connector RS-232#1 to the Serial Port on
the Maintenance PC.
(e) Open the HyperTerminal (or TeraTerm) application on the Maintenance PC and
configure the Serial Port as follows:
(f) Make sure the HyperTerminal (or TeraTerm) connection is connected (the bottom
left-hand of screen will show “Connected”).
(b) The CPIF will automatically boot into normal operations after completion of
the boot process.
(c) Wait for the system to complete the initialization. You will see a message on the
HyperTerminal (or TeraTerm) screen which says “** Service Selection Stop!”.
(d) Place the System into Maintenance Mode by performing the following steps:
(f) At the CPIF Maintenance Port’s main menu, select option [2] to view the
Download Code and Data menu.
(g) At the CPIF Maintenance Port’s Download Code and Data menu, select option
[1] to download the image of the Kingfisher Content Database.
(h) Wait for the prompt to start the file transfer, then complete step (i) within 30
seconds. If timed out, repeat the selection again.
(i) When using the TeraTerm application, select File …, Send File …, open the
CPIF Directory and select the 933829-002-003 -.tld file, and then click [open].
When using the HyperTerminal application, select Transfer>Send Text File and
then select the file to be downloaded.
NOTE: In both cases you may have to change the file types view to “All files
(*.*)” in order to see the .tld file. It is a good idea to have the file location
easily accessible to prevent a time-out. If a time-out does occur, the
CPIF screen will scroll while the file transfer is in progress. Cancel the
transfer and repeat steps (g) through (i) to retry.
(j) Verify that the UI reports progress for the file download. You will see “*” as
the file transfer progresses.
(k) Verify that upon download completion the UI reports flash erase success and
flash write success.
(l) When prompted, enter “Y” to write the new Content Database information to the
CDM.
(m) The Content Database has now been loaded to the system.
(b) You will need access to the RDU8 and IRDM Front Panels to perform this update.
(c) Connect the Maintenance Cable connector P2 to the target IRDM front panel.
(d) Connect the Maintenance Cable connector RS-232#1 to the laptop Comm
port #1.
(e) Open the Fortec Star Uploader Utility application. Refer to Figure 1.
Save As Screen
Figure 2
(g) Click “Download”. The following message should appear. Refer to Figure 3.
(k) Repeat steps (g) through (i) for each 933003-309 IRDM in the RDU8.
(l) Remember which positions the IRDMs that have been updated are located
in, as you will now update the Channel List part number and revision within
the IRDMs of that particular RDU8.
(m) Remove connector RS-232#2 from the PC and re-connect RS-232#1 to Comm
Port 1.
(n) Remove maintenance cable connector P2 from the IRDM front panel and
connect to the RDU8 Maint Port (located under the IRDM slots).
(o) Open the telnet application (HyperTerminal or TeraTerm) and re-establish the
connection on Comm Port 1.
(p) Hit the [ESC] key to refresh the RDU8 Maintenance Menu.
(r) Hit [5] and verify that the RDU8 is in Maintenance Mode. If the unit is not in
Maintenance Mode, enter [3] to enable maintenance mode.
(s) Hit the [ESC] key to return to the RDU8 top menu.
NOTE: The RDU8 must be at the top menu for the maintenance command to
be executed.
(t) Type “?SCL1,x,933819-002-002” where “x” is the IRDM (1-4) that was updated.
This updates the part number of the channel list for IRD#1.
(v) Type “?SCR1,x,-” where “x” is the IRDM (1-4) that was updated. This updates
the revision of the channel list for IRD#1.
(x) Type “?SCL2,x,933819-002-002” where “x” is the IRDM (1-4) that was updated.
This updates the part number of the channel list for IRD#2.
(z) Type “?SCR2,x,-” where “x” is the IRDM (1-4) that was updated. This updates
the revision of the channel list for IRD#2.
(ab) This is the end of the update for one RDU8/IRDM component in the system.
(ac) Repeat steps (c) through (z) for the other RDU8/IRDM components.
(ad) Remove all maintenance cables from the front of the RDU8 and IRDM.
(af) Refer to the Aircraft Maintenance Manual, Section SERVICING and perform a
Software Configuration Check.
B. Testing Procedure
(c) Wait for the system to complete the inventory. You will see a message on the
HyperTerminal (or TeraTerm) screen which says “** Service Selection Stop!”
This is approximately 4 minutes after applying power.
(d) Press the [0] key to see the part numbers of the system.
(e) Verify that the CPIF Content Database shows Part Number “933829-002-003”
and Revision “-“.
(f) Verify that the IRDM Channel Lists show Part Number “933819-002-002” and
Revision “-“ for all IRDMs in the inventory.
(2) Verify Content is available for the active region per the customer requirements. If a
channel is scrambled, then a possible re-hit may be required. Contact RCAS Member
Services to initiate a re-hit.
C. Identification Procedure
(1) No identification is needed for this content update. An inventory of the loaded content
items is available via the CPIF maintenance port as described in Section B above.
