Narrative Writing
Prompt 1
The clock has just struck eleven on Christmas Eve night, and
Santa is on his way to drop off the toys to all of the children
across the world. Back at the North Pole, you and several
other elves are relaxing after a hard day’s work. As you stir
your hot cocoa with your candy cane stick, you see a
shimmery object out of the corner of your eye. When you walk
up, you realize that several presents have fallen out of Santa’s
sleigh. Write a story from the perspective of an elf about how
you will get these presents Santa and the children. How will
you contact Santa? How will you get the presents to him? Will
he get the presents to the children on time?
Prompt 2
It’s the night before Christmas. Santa has just finished eating
his delicious dinner made by Mrs. Claus. As the elves load up
sleigh, Santa kisses Mrs. Claus on the cheek and grabs a few
cookies for the road. Before hopping on the sleigh, he checks to
make sure he has his list and presents altogether. Before his
departure, he checks in on all the reindeer ensuring that they
are ready for takeoff. Write a story about your journey as a
reindeer guiding Santa’s sleigh on Christmas Eve night. Give
vivid details describing your journey from house to house
throughout the night. Does bad weather occur? Do you get
along with the other reindeer? Will all the presents get
delivered?
Prompt 3
Santa had decided to take a brief nap prior to his long night of
gift delivering. He told Rudolph to wake him up at 6:30 p.m. to
make sure that he had plenty of time to get ready before
hopping on his sleigh. Rudolph quietly peaks into Santa’s room
at 6:25 p.m. To his surprise, Santa is not in bed! He quickly
checks Snap(chat) maps to see Santa’s location - it is
unavailable! He quickly makes an all-call on the North Pole
speaker asking if anyone had seen him. The elves search
around trying to find him, but he cannot be found! Write a
story from the perspective of Rudolph and solve the mystery of
our missing Santa! Use vivid details to describe this mystery!
