The Wise Diary of Hubart Indy

May 11th 1775-

As a Massachusetts native things have been pretty hectic lately. It has been extra busy as a
gunsmith lately. I have had a lot of orders for muskets and that is not a good sign. My friend Tim
Redman, who is into politics way more than I am, said that Britain is really pushing our buttons
lately don’t be surprised if things get worse for us. There was just a big meeting between all of
the major people in Philadelphia. They called it the Second Continental Congress. There is a
rumor that a big document is starting to come into place. Hopefully we can get away from these
stupid Brits.
July 5th 1776-
They finally approved that big document It’s called The Declaration of Independence. We
are free from Britain at last! I would have written about it yesterday but I went and celebrated
with some friends, can you blame me?
November 16th 1777-
Being our own country is kinda hard but, I think it’s starting to come around. They just
passed something called the Articles of Confederation. It is supposed to help us work better as
a country. Each state gets their own State Constitution which is super cool. I would have never
imagined we got our own set of rules for Massachusetts.
September 4th 1783-
The war just ended and thank god because I have made so much weaponry it is absurd!
We may have won the war but I guess our country is in trouble we have a lot of debt.
September 1st 1786-
We are now being battled by our own people. Something is wrong with our national
government. We are in so much debt and we keep printing money which is just causing all of
our paper money to be useless! States Governments aren’t giving up troops to fight back
because then we will just go back to being broke! Something needs to be done.
September 18th 1787- Finally about a year after the fighting we are a normal country again.
Whoever wrote the articles of confederation was an idiot how could that ever work! It is okay
now though we had the constitutional convention yesterday which got rid of that stupid
document.
