Jefferson County Clerk’s Office & DMV Closed to the Public

 
JEFFERSON COUNTY, NEW YORK:    Effective March 30, 2020, the
Jefferson County Clerk’s Office continues to be closed to the public due to
the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

COURT FILINGS:

 Electronic Filings – To submit court filings through the NYSCEF electronic e-filing system and
for additional information on permissible filings please visit:
https://iapps.courts.state.ny.us/nyscef/HomePage
 By Mail – We continue to accept permissible court filings through the mail, for more information
visit: http://ww2.nycourts.gov/courts/9jd/emergency.shtml
 
LAND RECORDS:

 Electronic Recording - We also accept Land recordings through one of the three e-Recording
vendors listed on our website at:
https://co.jefferson.ny.us/departments/CountyClerk/erecording_resources
 By Mail – We continue to accept land recordings through the mail by mailing your transactions
to: Jefferson County Clerk’s Office, 175 Arsenal St, Watertown, NY 13601.

MOTOR VEHICLES (DMV)

NYS Department of Motor Vehicle Offices and the Jefferson County Office
remain closed.
 All Registration and Driver’s License Renewals that have expiration dates after March 1 st, 2020
have been extended until April 19th.
 If you wish to renew your registration online and need an eye test, please first visit your local
drug store to obtain a vision test certificate and then renew online. You can also renew by
mailing your renewal form to us at: DMV, 175 Arsenal Street, Watertown, NY 13601.
 All Permit tests are suspended at this time.
 EDL/REAL ID – If you are interested in upgrading to an Enhanced (EDL) or REAL ID, you will
need to wait until the DMV offices are back in session.
 We can NOT process any new or used vehicle registrations, to include motor cycles and
trailers.
 ALL VEHICLE DEALERSHIPS: Our office will be reaching out to you on Monday, March 30 th
to set up a time and location for you to drop off your transactions.
 If you need to surrender license plates, please mail them to: 175 Arsenal Street, Watertown,
NY 13601 - Please be sure to include $1.00 cash or check, a self-addressed envelope so that
we may send you the receipt. If you have more than 1 year left on the registration please
indicate if you would like a refund or a credit for a future vehicle. Your plate surrender receipt
will be dated based on the post mark.
