RESEARCH II

Activity: Situational Application

As health professional under research subject, how can research help with the
pressing health problem of the country and its people?

Health research has high value to society. It can provide important information
about disease trends and risk factors, outcomes of treatment or public health
interventions, functional abilities, patterns of care, and health care costs and use.
Research can help in measuring the magnitude and distribution of the health problem,
understanding the diverse causes or the determinants of the problem, whether they are
due to biological, behavioral, social or environmental factors, developing solutions or
interventions that will help to prevent or mitigate the problem, implementing or delivering
solutions through policies and programs; and evaluating the impact of these solutions
on the level and distribution of the problem. Research is essential to find out which
treatments work better for patients. It plays an important role in discovering new
treatments, and making sure that we use existing treatments in the best possible ways.
Research can find answers to things that are unknown, filling gaps in knowledge and
changing the way that healthcare professionals work. Research is important to improve
the quality of life for people living with illness
