Kim Gu was born in
Baegon-dong, Haeju,
Kwanghae, Joseon,
Dynasty on August 29,
1876.
Who is Kim Gu?
Kim Gu is a pronunciation, also known by his pen name
baekbeom. He was the sixth and the last premier of the
Provisional Government of the Republic of Korea, a leader of
Korean independence movement against the japanese
Empire, and a reunification activist after 1945.
1885
When Kim was 9 years old
he studied Chinese classics
at a traditional community
school.
1892
Kim applied for the
Gwageo (Imperial
Examination) of
Joseon at the age of
16 but failed
1893
He joined the Donghak

movement, a rebellion

against government and

The japanese colonial government arrested An

Myung-geun, a cousin of the An Jung-gen who

killed Ito Hirobumi. Kim, who a close friend of An

Myung-geun was suspected of being an

accomplice and arrested as well. There was no

evidence linking Kim to the assassination so he

was released from prison after 3 years.


Kim eventually grew up and had five kids. One of

patriotism and bravery. Kim didn’t really have a good
relationship with his family. He got divorced after 18
years of marriage.
1941

Kim established the Korean Liberation Army. Kim declared war on

Japan and Germany. In 1948 Kim was nominated as a candidate for

the office of the first president of the Republic.


1949

Kim Gu was assassinated by Lieutenant

Anh Do-hee. Anh shot Kim four times. Anh

stated that he killed Kim because he saw

Kim as an agent of the Soviet Union.
