CONNECT Edition Regular Updates
The CONNECT Editions of Bentley applications feature regular updates to the software on a scheduled basis, updates will contain new
features. Update 4 is the version at the time of this writing.

Bentley’s CONNECTION Client will notify users of available updates for installed applications. To find out new functionality check the What’s
New section of the Help and the Bentley Communities AECOsim Building Designer Announcements forum: https://communities.bentley.com/
products/building/building_analysis___design/f/aecosim-speedikon-announcements-forum.

The AECOsim Building Designer CONNECT Edition installer is a true “stub” installer. The installer always downloads the latest version of
AECOsim Building Designer installed components. This prevents much larger redundant downloads.

Exercise 01: The Unified Component Property Panel
The CONNECT Edition features a ‘unified’ component property panel. The nomenclature ‘unified’ refers to the fact that the architectural,
mechanical and structural disciplines now use the same interface for the component properties when placing and modifying components. This
is an intrinsic part of the CONNECT Edition interface and a change for previous version’s architectural interface.

1. Start AECOsim Building Designer CONNECT Edition and from the work page set:
Workspace: AECOsimExamples

Workset: Multi-Use_Retail_Building_US [Multi-Use_Retail_Building_NM]

2. Open the file A_Grocery.dgn.

3. From the Ribbon Interface > Architectural Tab, Place Architectural Elements group select the Wall tool.
The Unified Component Property Panel (Place Wall) dialog opens.

Copyright © 2018 Bentley Systems, Incorporated DO NOT DISTRIBUTE - Printing for student use is permitted 4
As we can see the Property Panel dialog provides a centralized interface to select, place,
and modify AECOsim Building Designer components.

The Property Panel adds many enhancements. The panel can be free-floating in the
interface or docked on the edge of the interface.

The following breaks down the interface of the Property Panel:

The Catalog Item Selector - Used to select catalog items for placement. Can be floated as
an independent dialog. Catalog items can be searched for by name or sorted by type or
alphabetically.

The Catalog Item Preview - A preview view shows a preview of the catalog item selected
and includes view controls. The preview can be hidden if desired.

Catalog Tools - Used to manage component catalogs during placement by opening

DataGroup System data tools/utilities, including tools for matching an existing catalog
item, saving changes to catalogs, adding new catalog items, and refreshing catalog data.

Properties List - Used to set catalog item parameters and properties prior to placement.
Properties can be searched for by name or sorted by category or alphabetically.

Modification tool - The Property Panel acts as the "Modify Instance Data" interface for
editing catalog item instances selected with the Modify Properties tool.

Search & Recently Used - The Catalog Item Selector and Properties list have a Search
function that lists results dynamically. The Properties list has a Recently Used category
that lists recently selected catalog items.

Customizable - The Property Panel's Property list can be customized by manipulating the
catalog type and item definitions via the Catalog Editor utility. You can set which
properties appear and in which order they are presented. You can create new user
defined components and user defined properties, and have them appear in the Property
Panel Properties list.
