Problem Statement

Over the years, road damage in Malaysia has steadily increased. More and more
maintenance work has to be done to minimize defects or damage to the road. This is due to the
heavy traffic load and increasing road users in Malaysia. Statistics from the Ministry of
Transport Malaysia, road users are increasing every year. The asphalt used cannot withstand
drastic weather changes. Previous studies by other researchers have shown that some failures
occur when low temperatures, clumps, and roots (deformation) occur at high temperatures,
resulting in poor quality and pavement performance. Besides, asphalt also has problems with
thickness, bleeding and flushing. Therefore, Road engineers are always looking for innovative
solutions that enable efficient processing through source of recycle chain, with drastic reduction
of waste, dissipation by-products, and the use of raw materials in road construction. To address
this problem, crumb rubber is proposed as one of the possible methods of solving environmental
problems and road
