Course  The objective of this course is to make students understand the

UNIT I LIME – CEMENT
Lime – Preparation of lime mortar – Cement – Ingredients – Manufacturing process – Types
and Grades – Properties of cement and Cement mortar – Hydration .

UNIT II PROERTIES OF CONCRETE MATERIALS

Compressive strength – Tensile strength – Fineness– Soundness and consistency – Setting


time – fine aggregates – river sand – crushed stone sand – properties – coarse Aggregates –
Crushing strength – Impact strength – Flakiness Index – Elongation Index – Abrasion
Resistance – Grading.

UNIT III CONCRETE 


Concrete – Ingredients – Manufacturing Process – Batching plants –mixing – transporting –
placing – compaction of concrete –curing and finishing – Ready mix Concrete – Mix
specification.

UNIT IV ADMIXTURES 9
Accelerating admixtures - Retarding admixtures - water reducing admixtures – Air
entraining admixtures - coloring agent - Plasticizers. Batching - Mixing -Transportation -
Placing of concrete - curing of Concrete.

UNIT V SPECIAL CONCRETE 9


Light weight concrete - Fiber reinforced concrete - Polymer-polymer modified concrete -
Ferro cement - Mass concrete - Ready mix concrete- Self compacting concrete- Quality
control - Sampling and testing-Acceptance criteria.
