CHAPTER III

METHODOLOGY

In this chapter, a detailed overview of the research process is provided containing the research design,

research locale, samples and sampling techniques, the subjects, research instruments, data gathering
procedure, and the statistical tools and treatments.

Research Design

For this study, the descriptive method was used considering that it is appropriate for this kind of
investigation which is identifying the relationship of the two variables which are the profile and the
competitiveness of the student-respondents.

This descriptive method of research is convenient as it involves gathering data that describe events and
then organizes, tabulates, depicts, and describes the data collection (Marx, 2014). Descriptive research
obtains facts about existing conditions in a phenomenon. It also describes and interprets revealing
conditions or relationships that exist or do not exist and processing that are going on or otherwise
effects that are being felt or trends that are developing (Opuku, 2015).

Instruments

Instrument 1.1 Survey Questionnaire

The researchers of this study used a survey questionnaire with related questions about the e

Respondents of the Study

The present researchers selected the Junior High School students from the Jesus Is Lord Christian School
as their respondents to yield valid, accurate and reliable data. Firstly, these students are at a maturing
age, which will benefit greatly from the study result. In addition, these respondents will be familiar with
the concept of competition of students as well as being able to apply it on themselves as students.
Finally, the students do have a great deal of expertise in performance-based assessment. The result of
this study will be a handful of selected respondents as they prepare for college life; a stage in a person's
life that requires a decent degree and a good academic status.
The subjects are selected using the Slovin formula. The current survey questionnaires are subjected to
finding the real thoughts they have inside to find out what are the effects of the predetermined factor
on the student's competitiveness in Jesus Is Lord Christian School.

Research Locale

The survey and the research itself will be conducted in Jesus Is Lord Christian School (JILCS), headed by
Melquiades A. Asi, which is located at J.V. Pagaspas St. in Tanauan City, Batangas nearby Petron and
RCBC Savings Bank. The researchers chose Jesus Is Lord Christian School to accommodate the needs this
research sought for to get a clean and exact data. The students attending the school is facing
performance-based assessment on a weekly basis, mainly role plays or reportings, which is effectively
triggering their mentality into a competitive state. The school was also chosen for its accessibility that
the researchers are looking for.
