P. Balendran has served as GM India vice president of Corporate


Affairs since April 20, 1998. He has been on the GM India Board of
Directors for nearly 10 years and is a member of the GM Technical Centre-India
(GMTC-I) Private Limited Board of Directors.

Balendran is actively involved in the day-to-day business activities of GM India. He is


responsible for corporate affairs, corporate communications, media relations and
government affairs. He is also engaged in labor relations. Balendran helps develop
business strategies for product launches and interfaces with media, government
organizations, industry associations, business leaders and dealer bodies on behalf of
GM.

He was instrumental in converting GM India into a wholly owned subsidiary of GM in


1998. He successfully negotiated incentives with the government of Gujarat for the
company’s Halol plant, the government of Maharashtra for its Talegaon plant and the
government of Karnataka for the GMTC-I in Bangalore and its conversion into an Export
Oriented Unit. In addition, he led the site selection team for the Talegaon plant and
drove government approvals and handled media activities for the launch of GM’s Indian
joint venture with SAIC in 2010.

Balendran is a member of the Executive Committee of the Society of Indian Automobile


Manufacturers Association (SIAM), a member of the Governing Council of the
Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI) and a member of the American
Chamber of Commerce.

Before joining GM, Balendran was a senior bureaucrat in the government of India and
held senior positions in United Nations bodies and multinational corporations.
