Demystifying The Mysteries
Demystifying The Mysteries
INTRODUCTION:
Human populations vary according to their phylogenetic origins, ethnic, gender and
age. This set of variations is known as sexual dimorphism. Contemporary humans are
dimorphic, with a body sexual dimorphism index of only 4-7%. However, taking into account
the morphological features from the teeth, it is about 8-9%, which are considered the most
dimorphic of living human beings and has been less investigated, especially from primary
dentition.
AIM:
To verify the presence of sexual dimorphism in primary dentition among the local
population of Durg city.
METHOD:
One hundred Indian children (50 girls and 50 boys) belonging to Durg district of
Chhattisgarh population, between the age groups of 3 to 6 years will be included in the study.
Impressions of maxillary primary dentition will be made using Alginate and study models
will be prepared using dental stone. Mesiodistal and buccolingual crown dimensions of
maxillary primary teeth will be measured using digital Vernier’s calliper and will be analysed
for any sexual dimorphism.
Differences in mean values of primary tooth dimensions among both the genders will
be obtained which will be used in analysing the significance of maxillary primary teeth as a
valuable tool in determining sexual dimorphism.
