4 Inscribed Angles

def – inscribed angle – vertex on circle, contains two chords

Th’m 10.5 – The measure of an inscribed angle is half the measure

of its intercepted arc

Th’m 10.6 – If two inscribed angles intercept the same arc

then they are congruent.

Th’m 10.7 – If an inscribed angle intercepts a semicircle

then it’s a right angle.

Th’m 10.8 – If a quadrilateral is inscribed in a circle

then opposite angles are supplementary.
Find x for the following examples.

ex 1 Since the pink arc is 1320 (double the inscribed angle)

the rest of the circle (purple arc) must be 2280 (360 – 132).
Half of 2280 is 1140. Note: 114 + 66 = 180

ex 2 Since m∠AMB = 47 the arc from A to B would be 940

(double the inscribed angle). The m∠ARB would have to
be half that same arc. That makes x = 47.

ex 3 Since AD is a diameter we know the inscribed ∠AFD is half

of the semicircle formed. So, that makes
2x + 5 = 90
2x = 85
x = 42.5
