Time: Introduction:
Min. Teacher will explain what the hook of the lesson is: today we will be playing a sorting game but
before we start, we will be reading a book called fancy Nancy. What do you think the book will
be about when looking at the cover? What do you notice about the picture? The colors, and the
objects.
10 mins After reading the book, teacher will ask questions like: what did you notice about the
words? Is there anything similar from what we have learned in the pass lessons that you can
Groupings think of? Think of the words Nancy used in the book to describe objects.
: How did she describe it ?
Raise your hand if you can give an example?
Time: Teacher will then take out chart paper which is divided in two categories “ Fancy words &
Min. plain words”
Teacher will then explain what the activity will be :
35 minutes As you noticed in the book, Nancy uses many interesting/fancy words in order to make her
sentences more interesting while speaking.
Groupings How did you make or notice the word that were interesting?
: Nancy liked big words
Table Yes, Nancy did like big words, can u name me one
partners Student anticipated answer: give example )
what you did there was describe a word use an adjective. Why do we use adjectives?
Remember there are 5 senses we use ( touch, smell, taste, what we hear, and what we see)
when you will be given your worksheet with the two categories, its important that you think
about these words as adjectives to plain words.
So usually fancy words, like Nancy used will be bigger words that we don’t always hear in
everyday life, like; fushia . what is fushia ? fushia is another word to describe to color hot
pink or purple??
Can someone remind me what a plain word is? We did an activity on this on Monday?
Time: Extension / Wrap-up:
Min.
Teacher will do following lesson on three lesson plans (adjectives, adverbs, fancy words)
8 and will write a sentence using all three of the word choices.
minutes Students will have to
Groupings
: none
Notes / Reminders / Homework:
Remember when you bring your home reader home, try and spot the interesting/fancy words in your story book
or anything that you are reading and write it down on the paper I have given you. This way we will be able to go
over the words that are fancy and talk about them in class.
