EAR IRRIGATION PROCEDURE

Ear irrigation is a medical treatment that aims to clean the outer ear canal of debris,
excess earwax, or cerumen and foreign materials from the ear. The goal is to safely and
quickly remove items before they move deeper into the ear or do damage to the delicate canal.
Ear irrigation is an act by inserting liquid into the ear.

Tool Preparation

1. 60 ml syringe size 18 or 20G

2. Small bowl 1 piece

3. Towel 1 piece

4. Neirbekken 1 piece

5. Otoscope 1 piece

6. Gloves 1 pair

7. Antiseptic gel

8. Tissue

9. Cotton bud

Procedures

1. Give therapeutic greetings to the patient.

2. Next, explain the procedure to the patient.

3. Wash hands with an antiseptic gel or running water and antiseptic soap.

4. After that wear handscoon and position the patient side sleep or sit with his head tilt, with
a sore ear pointing upwards.
5. Put the towel on patient's shoulder.

6. Clean the outside with cutton buds.

7. Check the ears with an otoscope before take action.

8. After that, fill the irrigation fluid (hidroegenperoksida or water) into the syringe to taste.

9. Put nierbekken under the ear or ask the client to hold the nierbekken.

10. Pull up the patient's earlobe and then backward, then with the other hand nurses push the
fluid to the upper wall of the ear canal (spraying fluids should slowly and precisely).

11. Repeat irrigation if there is still dirt.

12. Dry your ears with cotton, put cotton in the ear 5 -10 minutes to absorb humidity.

13. Trim the tools.

14. Take off the glove and put it into a nierbekken.

15. And last, wash your hands with an antiseptic gel or running water and antiseptic soap.

16. Documentation the time of action and patient's response.

17. Give therapeutic greetings to the patient.
