Chapter 1
Introduction
We will step through an actual analysis to see how these energies blend and how they
relate to one another. There are about 115 stars used in Zi Wei Do Shu! These are not
actual stars, but mathematical symbols used to represent different energies that transit
through our lives. 14 of these are considered major stars, and have more impact than
the others.
A very amusing story that makes the “stars” come to life in legend can be found at
this link:
http://www.geocities.com/ziwei_doushu/wa...
Called “Waltzing with the Stars”, it is a fascinating story giving personality to each of
the major star influences.
Note that you will find that every school of thought names the stars differently, but
the meaning remains the same. You should be able to recognize each by their energies
and descriptions.
• Introduction.
• How to set up a Zi Wei Dou Shu chart.
• The Twelve Palace Categories and their interpretation.
• You can begin to interpret the chart, but this preliminary information about
the subject is not extensive. However, the information in this class is the
foundation for everything that follows.
• How to calculate 75 other stars that sit in the lifetime chart, and their inter-
pretation.
• At the end of this class you will have a very clear and detailed picture of the
personality of the subject of the chart and his overall circumstances. However,
the picture does not yet involve predicting events or changes over time.

12 CHAPTER 1. INTRODUCTION
1.1 History
http://www.absolutelyfengshui.com/library/brief-history-of-zi-wei-dou-shu-1.php
The few oldest civilisations in the world had all developed some form of astrology
from the study of astronomy, as our ancestors realised that planetary movements do
influence the destiny of human kind. The original Chinese astrology methodologies,
however, did not flourish well like their western counterparts, because Chinese rulers
from as early as the Chunqiu period (777-476 B.C.) had forbade their wide spread
practice for fear of uprisings.
The only form of Chinese astrology that managed to grow was Wuxing (the Five Stars
Method) but it was not refined at all when compared to Western astrology methodologies
(including Verdic, of course) that have developed uninterrupted.
Wuxing first uses Ganzhi (Stem/Branch) to build four pillars from year, month, day
and hour of birth, then studies the positions of Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter and
Saturn, together with the sun and the moon, in four sectors, to read the four pillars.
Hence, Wuxing is also called Qizheng Siyu (Seven Stars and Four Sectors).
The Ziping Method (Bazi Method, or the Four Pillars Method) was refined from the
first part of Wuxing, using the four pillars of birth, but ignoring totally the reliance of
planetary movements. Although the Ziping Method finally gained ground over Wuxing
after further refinements during the Tang Dynasty by Master Li Xuzhong, and later,
Master Xu Ziping, it is not able to provide certain specifics in reading like Wu Xing
because of its different approach. It was said that a new methodology was created at
that time, that was able to provide more details in reading, to compete with Ziping in
place of Wuxing. This new method was call the Eighteen Flying Stars (Shiba Feixing)
and it is the first time the phrase Ziwei appeared in a destiny analysis methodology.
While some like to take Shiba Feixing as a form of Ziwei Doushu, which, in fact, was
created later, they are not the same. Ziwei Doushu appeared in the Song Dynasty and
it is much more dynamic and detailed than Shiba Feixing. As the name implies, again,
Shiba Feixing uses only 18 stars in addition to Ziwei, while Ziwei Doushu employs 120
stars in addition to Ziwei, and the former does not provide reading in periodic luck,
1.2. NARRATIVE 13
while Ziwei Doushu goes all the way from 10-year cycles to annual cycles, monthly
cycles, daily cycles and hourly cycles.
It remains a mystery who had invented Ziwei Doushu, although it is generally at-
tributed to a Taoist priest Chen Xiyi in Song Dynasty. However, official historical
records and unofficial notes from the Song Dynasty have never associated Chen Xiyi
with Chinese metaphysics.
Although Ziwei Doushu has achieved the goal of providing strong competition to
Ziping because has the capacity to give enormous specific details, the methodology
did not flourish for the next 1,000 years for two reasons. First, while able to provide
detailed readings, the method did not provide the logic of the interpretations, and it
was seemingly not based on profound theoretical basis like Ziping. Second, it has
become the exclusive instrument of the Bureau of Astronomy of the Ming and Qing
Dynasties, used to serve only the Emperor. Therefore, Ziping was the only well known
main stream destiny analysis method until the recent times, when some masters began
teaching Ziwei Doushu openly after World War II.
1.2 Narrative
The major stars, some call them the Royals. These are like members in a Castle or
Palace that work to run the country. The head of the Palace is the Emperor, or Zi Wei.
That’s where the name comes from. The health and position of these stars, combine
with the effects of the minor stars, transformation energies and court positions, helps
to describe the condition of the subject. THe Subject is like the Country in which these
stars rule.
Zi Wei Dou Shu believes that everyone is born with a certain Life blueprint - a class,
a certain level in society and a certain Luck, the ups and downs of life.
Together, the blueprint and the Luck makes up a complete prediction, fate or destiny
in English. The Blueprint does not change.if you are dooomed to be up down a lot, or
always rich or always poor or always powerful your Blueprint does not change. The
Luck however fluctuates from childhood to old age.
Zi Wei Dou Shu is attributed to Chen Hsi Ee who lived during the Song dynasty about
1000 years ago. Elements of the system existed earlier and Chen Hsi Ee is believed to
have refined, improved and properly documented the system.
Although there are 100+ stars in the Zi Wei Dou Shu system, between 30 to 40 of
them are considered to be very important and used frequently during the reading.
These stars are distributed in 12 courts or zones called Fate, Sibling, Spouse, Chil-
dren, Wealth, Health, Travel, Friends, Profession, Property, Enjoyment and Parent
based on your date and time of birth.
At a very basic level, the stars in a court affect that aspect of your life. For example
the Tian Fu star in the wealth court would imply a steady cash flow with potential to
accumulate wealth. This ability however can be negated by the presence of ’bad’ stars
or enhanced by the presence of ’good’ ones.
Furthermore the stars found in the courts of triangular harmony and directly oppo-
site will influence the stars in the wealth court and modify the results further!
14 CHAPTER 1. INTRODUCTION
1.2. NARRATIVE 15
Commentary - With the availability of the enormous information ZWDS can provide,
it is easy to fall into traps of such thought that we are unable to change our life or
dictate our future - because so much have been written. Rather, the idea should be the
other way round that we can make full use of the information to maximise our potential
and to minimise risks and avoid pitfalls in life. The future is in our own hands. The
next phase of slides illustrate this philosophy well.
over them is the biggest from the bottom up. To me, it is more critical to find out our
likely trends first than to talk about Fengshui. For instance, when both the structural
trends and the cycle luck of Estates Domain is good, it is easier for us to get a good
house and good Fengshui. When they are the reverse, it is easier for us to get a bad
settlement and bad Fengshui.
Commentary - These are the twelve domains of life that 紫微斗数interprets. I have
chosen the word DOMAIN in place of PALACE or COURT because unlike face reading
and Fengshui, the Chinese word gong here does not refer to a location or position. The
命宫may be placed in any of the twelve frames, but the sequence of the twelve does not
change. 紫微斗数is about reading the meaning of the stars when they are placed in the
twelve domains.
In a nutshell, ZWDS is only about two elements - the stars and the twelve aspects of
life. Mastering these two items, you master ZWDS.
In Chinese, the word gong ? means both the twelve aspects of life, and the twelve
positions in a chart. Therefore, I choose to call it in different terms in English. For
the different aspects of life, I prefer the term DOMAIN, and for the twelve positions in a
chart represented by the twelve Earthly Branches, I prefer the term HOUSE (or Palace).
It makes the descriptions more specific.
In a chart, the twelve domains go in a given sequence in anticlockwise manner. What
we need to establish is the position of the Self Domain from birth month and birth time,
and it can fall into any of the twelve houses in a chart. The rest of the domains naturally
fall into place, after Self Domain is being placed.
17
18 CHAPTER 2. THE TWELVE DOMAINS
The sequence goes: 1 Self Domain, 2 Siblings Domain, 3 Love Domain, 4 Children
Domain, 5 Wealth Domain, 6 Health Domain, 7 Travel Domain, 8 Peers Domain, 9
Career Domain, 10 Estates Domain, 11 Thinking Domain, and 12 Parents Domain.
We can find logic in the sequence. We grow up among siblings, fall in love, and have
children. We talk about wealth and health, and then, how far we can go in travel. When
we are away from home, we rely on peers. We are what we do (career/business), and it
determines how wealthy we are to acquire land and estates. Parents Domain ends the
sequence, but it does not come last. Look at it from the other direction (clockwise) from
Self Domain, we have Parents Domain, and it flanks the Self Domain (us) together with
the siblings. That makes a family. In turn, the Parents Domain is being flanked by Self
Domain and the Thinking Domain. Both our behaviour and thoughts are influenced by
our parents.
Personality decides much in life. It is because of certain special quality that a suc-
cessful person can scale great heights in life. It is also the lack of certain other quality
that halts him from going higher. Whether one handles the challenges in life well also
depends on one?s personality. One of the most interesting applications of Ziwei Doushu
is for getting to know others? personality as if with an X-ray eye: People can run, but
they cannot hide!

The 身宫is about post-heaven predisposition and represents where the subject is headed
for in life. 命宫tends to represent ones early life, while 身宫represents later life. It also
represents a domain of main influence in the subject’s life.
22 CHAPTER 2. THE TWELVE DOMAINS
Commentary - Beyond the twelve domains, there is a 身宫- what I call a supple-
mentary domain, or the domain of main influence, but it is formed by one of the six
domains(note, not all twelve) shown in the first slide.
wealthier friends? Or do you live your life living on your own devices, and having to
help others instead?
Although the 12 domains in ZWDS are clearly defined, and they do specify clearly the
different aspects of our life for specific interpretations, we are to break the boundaries
of the 12 domains for observations if we are to bring our analysis skill to a higher level
for complete results.
Hence, first of all, there is the technique of reading the entire matrix (Sanfang
Sizheng) of a certain domain to assess its indications comprehensively. Though it may
not always be accurate to give a weight to the four domains concerned, let us use these
figures to illustrate the point arbitrarily.
The domain in question takes about a 75% to 85% share in interpreting its meaning,
depending on how many stars, and what they are in it. Or, if we make it an average of
80%, then the opposite domain plays a 10% weight, and the two apexes in the wings (of
Sanfang - the Sanhe triangle) take about 5% each.
In ZWDS, we do emphasise the importance of the main matrix of Self, Travel, Wealth
and Career Domains. But who is to say that Health Domain is less important, or for
that matter, Love Domain or Estates Domain?
Therefore, after getting well versed with the definition of the 12 domains, and the
technique of observing Sanfang Sizheng, we have to keep in mind that every domain
may affect the overall outcome of an interpretation.
For instance, with the right (or wrong?) conditions, a bad Peers Domain may affect
the outcome of an expected achievement interpreted from a good Career Domain matrix.
Conversely, a good Offspring Domain may rescue a lacklustre Career Domain matrix
if one is in a business that serves children.
Therefore, it is an art to take the full view of the chart to have a comprehensive
analysis for the purpose of maximising the information available.
The stars within the courts affect the properties of the life aspects. And the stars in
related courts can also affect the life aspects in lesser ways.
Stars in courts that are located in trinity to each other, affect each other.
Hence one can conclude that some aspects of your life are related.
E.g. Your Self is related to your Career and Wealth (trinity courts), and related to
your Travel(opposite court). Which is logical, because these are the courts directly
influenced by you.
26 CHAPTER 2. THE TWELVE DOMAINS
Commentary - This shows the key interpretation technique of ZWDS. One will never
understand the true power of ZWDS if one does not get familiarised with their applica-
tions.
in the opposite domain must be mirrored into the domain to be interpreted. Merely
mirroring the first 14 Major Stars, as it is widely taught, is wrong.
Commentary - The next three slides illustrate the Mirroring Technique. The Siblings
Domain in the chart is void of Major Stars. The pair of Trouble Stars - Turmoil Star
Huoxing and Turbulence Star Lingxing, are found to be placed in the Offspring Domain
and Peers Domain respectively. They are not the 14 Major Stars, but part of the 32 Main
Stars. They are the Adverse Stars that are the most menacing to human relationships.
28 CHAPTER 2. THE TWELVE DOMAINS
Commentary - In this chart, on the surface, three human relationship domains are
negatively affected (in red) but not all five domains, if we do not mirror Turbulence Star
Lingxing into the Siblings Domain which is void of the Major Stars. It therefore means
that the Siblings Domain and Love Domain are not affect by the pair of Trouble Stars.
This is the wrong interpretation result.
Commentary - When we mirror Turbulence Star into the Siblings Domain according
to the correct application of the Mirroring Technique, we will have the correct interpre-
tation result that all human relationship domains in this chart are ruined by the stars.
The two that suffer the most impacts are the Parents Domain and Love Domain, the
latter because of the flanking effect.
2.13. COURT RELATIONSHIPS 29
Commentary - Next, look out for the locations of stars that come in pairs. When a
pair of stars are found in the Matrix, they give synergy. In this illustration, the Left
Deputy Zuofu and the Right Deputy Youbi each affects the domains where they are
placed, but the domain represent by the star symbol gets the most benefits.
Commentary - This means that the interpretation of a ZWDS chart must not be done
on individual domains only. In this illustration, Career Domain directly shows what
industry or what sector is good for the subject, whether it is appropriate for him/her
to take up a business or stay employed. However, his/her luck with money (Wealth
30 CHAPTER 2. THE TWELVE DOMAINS
Domain) also has a major influence on the job/business he takes on, while his/her
personality (Self Domain) also plays a vital part in his/her rate of success in certain
fields of job/business.
Commentary - These four domains form Sanfang Sizheng - what I call the Matrix.
They reveal the aggregate strength (luck) of destiny we have in this life.
2.15. WEALTH LEVEL ANALYSIS 31
Commentary - To assess how wealthy one can be, we have to also include the inter-
pretation of Estates Domain as it represents wealth beyond liquid cash.

34 CHAPTER 3. SETTING UP THE CHART
The different methods came about due to the different schools of thoughts. But
whichever method you chose, be sure to stick it throughout the setting up of your
chart. You can set up another chart with the other method if you find your chart
grossly inaccurate.
The easiest way to get a blank chart would be to fold a piece of paper into half 4
times before opening it up. This way you will have a paper with the necessary squares
without needing to draw lines.
Once you get the empty chart, write down the Birth Date (especially the now-converted
date) in the middle square as you will be needing it throughout the plotting of the chart.
Then, fill up the Earthly Branches into the 12 empty squares. Starting from the
left-bottom corner, in the Clockwise Direction in the following sequence:
The Sequence of the Earthly Branches is as follow:
Once done, you will get a chart that looks like this -
3.2. LIFE/BODY COURT 35
Next, taking the last square you stopped at to be the first Shi Chen, which is ? ? Zi
?Hour in this example, count in the Anti-Clockwise direction and stop at the Shi Chen
at which you were born.
The Sequence for ?? Shi Chen is this:
Which means, if you were born at ? ?Mao ?Hour (4th Shi Chen), and count 4 squares
Anti-Clockwise from ? ? Zi ?, you will now be at the square of ? ? S
36 CHAPTER 3. SETTING UP THE CHART
Using the same example, instead of counting Anti-Clockwise for the Hours or Shi
Chen, we will now count in the Clockwise direction to establish Body Palace ??.
3.2. LIFE/BODY COURT 37
So, the Body Palace will be at ? ? H- ????. You can double-check the chart here to
confirm.
Friends/Servants Palace ??? 9. Career Palace ??? , 10. Property Palace ??? 11.
Fortune Palace ??? , 12. Parents Palace ???
Your chart will look like this:
?? ?Go-ng Ga-n?
Each Palace, besides its own Earthly Branch, has its Heavenly Stem as well. It is
called the Palace Stem or ?? ?Go-ng Ga-n?. However, as there are only 10 Heavenly
Stems, 2 of the stems will be repeated to fill up all 12 Palaces.
The rule here is, the Year of Birth decides which stem goes into which palace.
To chart the Palace Stems, memorise the Golden Rule:
??????? Establish Palace Stem
40 CHAPTER 3. SETTING UP THE CHART
Another easier way of doing it with the help of the Table is this:
3.4. COURT STEM 41
Using the same example, the Year of birth being the Stem of ? Jia (? Ys Year Branch),
and Life Palace is at ? Sherefore the Stem of Life Palace is ? Ji.
Thus, we say, Life Palace ?? is located at ??. (This is important when interpreting
the chart because interpretions are based on each Palace’s Stem-Branch, or in short,
Palace Address ?? ?Go-ng W.)
Subsequently, fill up the rest of the palaces with the Heavenly Stems (Clockwise
direction). Take note when charting the 2 repeated Stems.
3.5 Wu Xing Ju
Step 5 - Establish Element Phase ??? The next step is to establish one’s ??? ?Wu XJ?
or 5 Elements Phase.
The rule here is, the Life Palace Stem and Branch determines one’s Element. To
simplify this step, please refer to the summarised Table.
In the example provided, the Life Palace Branch being ? Snd the Stem of the Year
of Birth being ? Jia , therefore, the owner of this Birth Chart has the Element of Wood
???.
3.5. WU XING JU 43
To double-check, refer to the ???? ?Hua- Jia N-n? Table. In this case, the owner of
the chart has her Life Palace at ??, therefore she is a ??? (Forest Trees), which is Wood
Element ???.
44 CHAPTER 3. SETTING UP THE CHART
Now that we’ve completed the framework of the Birth Chart, we will be proceeding to
the mapping of the Stars.
? Yin as 1st square, count clockwise and the 6th square (value Y = Z) is ? Wei. So,
Zi Wei Star is to be established in the palace of ? Wei.
Example 2:
Birth Date - 7th day Element Phase - ??? Wood (3rd) Phase
? Yin as 1st square, count clockwise, the 5th square (value Z) is ? Wu, Zi Wei Star is
to be established in the palace of ? Wu.
Or:
46 CHAPTER 3. SETTING UP THE CHART
? Yin as 1st square, counting clockwise, the 3rd square (value Y) is ? Chen. Being
an even number, X also moves clockwise by 2 squares and stops at ? Wu. Therefore Zi
Wei Star is established at ? Wu Palace.
Example 3:
Birth Date 15th day Element Phase ??? Metal (4th) Phase
? Yin as 1st square, counting clockwise, the 3rd square (value Z) is ? Chen, so Zi
Wei Star is to be established in the palace of ? Chen.
3.6. CHART ZI WEI STAR 47
? Yin as 1st square, counting clockwise, the 4rd square (value Y) is ? Si. Being an
odd number, X moves Anti-Clockwise 1 square and stops at ? Chen. Therefore Zi Wei
Star is established at ? Chen Palace.
However, the formula does not work in ALL cases. There are exceptions.
Example 4:
Birth Date 13th day Element Phase ??? Fire (6th) Phase
Going by formula: ( 13 + 5 ) / 6 = 3
In this case, X (5) ¿ Y(3) Going on to the next step, ( Y X ), we will get a negative
number ( 3 5 = -2 ) and the assumption of simply moving 2 squares anti-clockwise (to
? Chou) would be wrong!
? Yin as 1st square, counting clockwise, the 3rd square (value Y) is ? Chen. Being
an odd number, X moves Anti-Clockwise 5 squares backwards and stops at ? Hai. So,
Zi Wei Star should be correctly established at ? Hai Palace.
But what happen if one’s Birth Date has a value smaller than his Element Phase?
For example, one who has a Fire (6th) Element Phase borned on the 4th day, or one
who has a Water (2nd) Element Phase borned on the 1st day?
The Rule then changes in such situations.
To simplify the Rule,
For people:
1. Who are of Water (2nd) Phase ??? , - borned on the 1st day, establish Zi Wei Star
in ? Chou Palace.
2. Who are of Wood (3rd) Phase ??? , - borned on the 1st day, establish Zi Wei Star
in ? Chen Palace. - borned on the 2nd day, establish Zi Wei Star in ? Chou Palace.
3. Who are of Metal (4th) Phase ??? , - borned on the 1st day, establish Zi Wei Star
in ? Hai Palace. - borned on the 2nd day, establish Zi Wei Star in ? Chen Palace. -
borned on the 3rd day, establish Zi Wei Star in ? Chou Palace.
4. Who are of Earth (5th) Phase ??? , - borned on the 1st day, establish Zi Wei Star
in ? Wu Palace. - borned on the 2nd day, establish Zi Wei Star in ? Hai Palace. -
borned on the 3rd day, establish Zi Wei Star in ? Chen Palace. - borned on the 4th day,
establish Zi Wei Star in ? Chou Palace.
5. Who are of Fire (6th) Phase ??? , - borned on the 1st day, establish Zi Wei Star in
3.7. CHART ZI WEI SERIES 49
? You Palace. - borned on the 2nd day, establish Zi Wei Star in ? Wu Palace. - borned
on the 3rd day, establish Zi Wei Star in ? Hai Palace. - borned on the 4th day, establish
Zi Wei Star in ? Chen Palace. - borned on the 5th day, establish Zi Wei Star in ? Chou
Palace.
Chart Tian Fu Star ?? (Treasury) The palace Tian Fu Star ?? resides in is determined
by the position of Zi Wei Star ??.
If Zi Wei Star ?? is at Yin ? or Shen ? Palace, Tian Fu Star ?? will reside in the same
palace as Zi Wei Star.
If Zi Wei Star is at Mao ? palace, Tian Fu Star will be at Chou ?. Likewise, if Zi Wei
Star is at Chou ?, Tian Fu star will be at Mao ?.
You can double-check the position of Tian Fu Star here. By the end of Step 8, you
would have successfully charted 7 Major Stars.
3.8. CHART TIAN FU SERIES 53
Chart Major Stars in Tian Fu Series The Major Stars led by Tian Fu Star ?? are: ??
Tai Yin, ?? Tan Lang, ?? Ju Men, ?? Tian Xiang, ?? Tian Liang, ?? Qi Sha and ?? Po
Jun.
Their positions are relative to where Tian Fu Star is. And the rule is as follow:
54 CHAPTER 3. SETTING UP THE CHART
3.9. CHART STARS BY HOUR 55
Example:
Birth Hour being Mao ? is the 4th ShiChen ??. (Zi ?(1), Chou ?(2), Yin ?(3), Mao
?(4).....)
Wen Chang ?? starts from Xu ? Palace as its 1st square. Count Anti-Clockwise to
the 4th square. Position Wen Chang ?? in Wei ? Palace.
Wen Qu ?? starts from Chen ? Palace as its 1st square. Count Clockwise to the 4th
square. Position Wen Qu ?? in Wei ? Palace.
(b) Huo Xing ?? and Ling Xing ??
For this Step, you will need your Birth Year and Birth Hour.
3.9. CHART STARS BY HOUR 57
For people born in the Year of Yin ?, Wu ? or Xu ? - Huo Xing ?? starts from Chou ?
Palace, Ling Xing ?? starts from Mao ? Palace.
For people born in the Year of Shen ?, Zi ? or Chen ? - Huo Xing ?? starts from Yin
? Palace, Ling Xing ?? starts from Xu ? Palace.
For people born in the Year of Hai ?, Mao ? or Wei ? - Huo Xing ?? starts from You ?
Palace, Ling Xing ?? starts from Xu ? Palace.
For people born in the Year of Si ?, You ? or Chou ? - Huo Xing ?? starts from Mao
? Palace, Ling Xing ?? starts from Xu ? Palace.
Both stars will be moved in the Clockwise direction. Example:
Birth Year is Yin ?. Thus, Huo Xing ?? starts from Chou ? Palace. Birth Hour being
Mao ?(4), move Huo Xing ?? Clockwise to the 4th square and position it at Chen ?
Palace.
Birth Year is Yin ?. Thus, Ling Xing ?? starts from Mao ? Palace. Birth Hour being
Mao ?(4), move Ling Xing ?? Clockwise to the 4th square and position it at Wu ? Palace.
(c) Di Jie ?? and Di Kong ??
58 CHAPTER 3. SETTING UP THE CHART
Example:
Example:
(a) Zuo Fu ?? and You Bi ?? (b) Tian Yao ?? and Tian Xing ?? (c) Jie Shen ?? (d)
Tian Wu ?? (e) Tian Yue ?? (f) Yin Sha ??
For this step, you will need your Birth Month.
(a) Zuo Fu ?? and You Bi ??
Example:
Zuo Fu ?? starts from Chen ? Palace as its 1st square. Move Clockwise to the 7th
square. Position Zuo Fu ?? in Xu ? Palace.
You Bi ?? starts from Xu ? Palace as its 1st square. Move Anti-Clockwise to the 7th
square. Position You Bi ?? in Chen ? Palace.
(b) Tian Yao ?? and Tian Xing ??
Example:
Tian Yao ?? starts from Chou ? Palace as its 1st square. Move Clockwise to the 7th
square. Position Tian Yao ?? in Wei ? Palace.
62 CHAPTER 3. SETTING UP THE CHART
Tian Xing ?? starts from You ? Palace as its 1st square. Move Clockwise to the 7th
square. Position Tian Xing ?? in Mao ? Palace.
(d) Tian Wu ??
(c) to (f) are pretty straight-forward, so just fill the stars in as stated.

Step 12 - Chart Stars based on Day of Birth The stars to be charted next are:
(a) San Tai ?? and Ba Zuo ?? (b) En Guang ?? and Tian Gui ??
Example:
Example:
Both En Guang ?? and Tian Gui ?? are established one square BEFORE the 26th
square. Thus, 26 - 1 = 25. Instead of counting to the 26th square, the stars will be
established on the 25th.
3.12. CHART STARS BY YEAR STEM 67
En Guang ?? starts from where Wen Chang ?? is - Wei ? Palace as its 1st square.
Move Clockwise to the 25th square. Position En Guang ?? in Wei ? Palace.
Tian Gui ?? starts from where Wen Qu ?? is - Wei ? Palace as its 1st square. Move
Clockwise to the 25th square. Position Tian Gui ?? in Wei ? Palace.
Step 13 - Chart Stars based on Birth Year (Stem) The stars to be charted next are:
(a) Lu Cun ??? Qing Yang ?? and Tuo Luo ?? (b) Tian Kui ?? and Tian Yue ?? (c) Si
Hua ?? (d) Tian Guan ?? and Tian Fu ??
For this step, you will need your Birth Year Stem. (a) Lu Cun ??? Qing Yang ?? and
Tuo Luo ??
Example:
68 CHAPTER 3. SETTING UP THE CHART
Pretty straighforward, Birth Year Stem being Jia ?, thus Lu Cun ?? is established at Yin
?.
Next, establish Qing Yang ?? one square before Lu Cun ??, in this case, the square
before Yin ? at Mao ?.
Then, establish Tuo Luo ?? one square after Lu Cun ??, in this case, the square
after Yin ? at Chou ?.
3.12. CHART STARS BY YEAR STEM 69
Example:
3.12. CHART STARS BY YEAR STEM 71
Pretty straightforward as well, Birth Year Stem being Jia ?, Tian Kui ?? is established
at Chou ? and Tian Yue ?? at Wei ?.
The four Transformation Stars, or Si Hua Stars ?? are namely - Hua Lu ??, Hua
Quan ??, Hua Ke ?? and Hua Ji ??.
There is a fixed set of Si Hua for each of the 12 years (from Jia ? Year to Gui ? Year).
However, there are slight variations among the various schools. Depending on what
your Birth Year Stem is, the Si Hua are ’attached’ to 4 various Stars to ’transform’ their
attributes.
On a Natal Birth Chart, or Ming Pan ??, this set of Si Hua is called Ming Si Hua ???.
A second set of Si Hua is determined on a Decade Chart ????. This set is called Decade
Si Hua or Xian Si Hua ???. A third set of Si Hua is further determined for a Current
Year Chart ????. This set is called Current Year Si Hua or Liu Nian Si Hua ????
I will touch on this again later on in the site.
Example:
3.12. CHART STARS BY YEAR STEM 73
As the Birth Year Stem is Jia ?, Hua Lu ?? transforms Lian Zhen ??, Hua Quan ??
transforms Po Jun ??, Hua Ke ?? transforms Wu Qu ??, Hua Ji ?? transforms Tai Yang
??.
Example:
3.13. CHART STARS BY YEAR BRANCH 75
Birth Year Stem being Jia ?, Tian Guan ?? is established at Wei ? and Tian Yue ?? at
You ?.
Chart Stars based on Birth Year (Branch) As this section involves lots of stars, I will
break it up into Part I and Part II.
The stars that are charted based on the Birth Year Branch are as follow:
(a) Tian Ma ?? (b) Tian Kong ?? (c) Tian Ku ?? and Tian Xu ?? (d) Long Chi ?? and
Feng Ge ?? (e) Hong Luan ?? and Tian Xi ?? (f) Gu Chen ?? and Gua Su ?? (g) Fei Lian
?? (h) Po Sui ?? (i) Tian Cai ?? and Tian Shou ??
For this step, you will need your Birth Year Branch. (a) Tian Ma ??
76 CHAPTER 3. SETTING UP THE CHART
Example:
Example:
Chou ? as its first square (Zi ?), count Clockwise using the Branch Sequence (Zi, Chou,
Yin, Mao....) and stop at the square that corresponds with your Birth Year Branch.
In this example, Birth Year Branch being Yin ? (counting stops at Yin which is 3rd
in sequence), Tian Kong ?? is thus established at the square of Mao ?.
(c) Tian Ku ?? and Tian Xu ??
78 CHAPTER 3. SETTING UP THE CHART
Example:
Example:
Example:
Move Hong Luan ?? Anti-Clockwise (Zi, Chou, Yin) from Mao ? Palace. Establish at
Chou ? Palace.
Establish Tian Xi ?? in the opposite palace, in this case, Wei ? Palace.
(f) Gu Chen ?? and Gua Su ??
3.13. CHART STARS BY YEAR BRANCH 81
Example:
(h) Po Sui ??
Example:
3.13. CHART STARS BY YEAR BRANCH 83
Pretty straightforward here, thus no need for ’working’.. Fei Lian ?? is established at
Xu ? Palace. Po Sui ?? is established at You ? Palace.
(i) Tian Cai ?? and Tian Shou ??
Example:
84 CHAPTER 3. SETTING UP THE CHART
Tian Cai ?? starts from Life Palace ?? and moves Clockwise. Count till the Birth Year
Branch (Yin ?) and establish at Wei ?.
Tian Shou ?? starts from Body Palace ?? and moves Clockwise as well. Count till
the Birth Year Branch and establish at Chou ?.
3.14 Bo Shi
This and the next step involve the plotting of 2 sets of stars - Bo Shi Shi Er Shen ?????
and Chang Sheng Shi Er Shen ?????.
Each set consists of 12 different stars, arranged in a fixed sequence and each star
to be allotted to one of the 12 Palaces.
The first set is named Bo Shi Shi Er Shen ????? because the first star in the set is
Bo Shi ??. Alternatively Bo Shi Shi Er Shen is also called Shi Er Gong Tai Sui Shen Sha
???????.
The Stars are as follow: 1. Bo Shi ?? (Cleverness) 2. Li Shi ?? (Power Monger) 3.
Qing Long ?? (Green Dragon) 4. Xiao Hao ?? (Waste) 5. Jiang Jun ?? (Pompousness)
6. Zou Shu ?? (Scholarly) 7. Fei Lian ?? (Slander) 8. Xi Shen ?? (Jubilation) 9. Bing
Fu ?? (Sickness) 10. Da Hao ?? (Exhaust) 11. Fu Bing ?? (Deception) 12. Guan Fu ??
(Litigation)
3.14. BO SHI 85
First of all, determine whether one is Yin Male/Female or Yang Male/Female. The
Birth Year Stem determines whether one is Yin ? or Yang ?.
If one was born in the Year of Jia ?, and Jia being Yang, he/she is a Yang ?
Male/Female. Or, if one was born in the Year of Gui ?, and Gui being Yin, he/she
is a Yin ? Male/Female.
The first star in the set, Bo Shi ??, will be established in the palace in which Lu Cun
?? resides in.
If one is either Yang Female or Yin Male, the other 11 stars in the set will be arranged
in each of the other 11 palaces in an Anti-Clockwise direction.
If one is either Yin Female or Yang Male, the other 11 stars will be arranged in each
of the other 11 palaces in a Clockwise direction.
86 CHAPTER 3. SETTING UP THE CHART
The subject was born in the Year of Jia, thus she is a Yang Female ??.
As Lu Cun ?? resides in Children Palace, Bo Shi ?? is established in Children Palace.
The subject is Yang Female (Anti-Clockwise direction). Thus, Li Shi ?? is established
in Wealth Palace.
Followed by the next star Qing Long ?? in Health Palace, and so on, till the last star,
Guan Fu ?? in Marriage Palace.
The second set is named Chang Sheng Shi Er Shen ????? because the first star in the
set is Chang Sheng ??.
The Stars are as follow: 1. Chang Sheng ?? (Beginning) 2. Mu Yu ?? (Accumulating)
3. Guan Dai ?? (Maturity) 4. Lin Guan ?? (Appointment) 5. Di Wang ?? (Pinnacle) 6.
Shuai ? (Fading) 7. Bing ? (Ailing) 8. Si ? (Deteriorating) 9. Mu ? (Dormancy) 10. Jue
? (Termination) 11. Tai ? (Conception) 12. Yang ? (Development)
3.15. CHANG SHENG 87
This is pretty straightforward. If one is of Water Element ???, establish Chang Sheng
?? in Shen ? Palace.
The subject is of Wood Element, thus Chang Sheng ?? is established at Hai ? Palace.
Followed by the next star Guan Dai ?? at You ? or Career Palace, and so on, till the
last star, Yang ? at Zi ? or Health Palace.
”???????” would mean: if one is born in the Year of Jia Zi ??, Xun Kong ?? will be
charted in the Xu ? Palace.
Why Xu ? Palace and not Hai ? Palace? This is because, the stems and branches
are paired either Yang-Yang or Yin-Yin (60-year Cycle). And since Jia Zi is Yang-Yang,
Xun Kong will be established in a Yang-branch Palace, which in this case, is Xu Palace.
In the following year, Yi Chou ??, which is a Yin-Yin, Xun Kong will be established in
Hai ? Palace.
Birth Year being Jia Yin ??, Xun Kong ?? would be at Zi ? or Chou ? Palace.
Jia Yin being Yang, Xun Kong is established at Zi Palace (Yang).
If you are still unsure, you may check the table here.
Both Tian Shang ?? and Tian Shi ?? are to be established in the 6th palace be-
fore/after Life Palace ??. So to simplify it, Tian Shang will always be in Friends Palace
92 CHAPTER 3. SETTING UP THE CHART
Loosely translated, Ming Zhu ?? means ’Life Master’ and Shen Zhu ?? means ’Body
Master’. There is much to be discussed about Ming Zhu and Shen Zhu, but that will be
another topic.
For now, Chart Ming Zhu ?? as per below. The Life Palace Branch ???? determines
one’s Ming Zhu.
3.19. MING ZHU AND SHEN ZHU 93
Chart Shen Zhu ?? as per below. The Birth Year Branch ??? determines one’s Shen
Zhu.
94 CHAPTER 3. SETTING UP THE CHART
Chapter 4
The 14 Major Stars form the skeleton of a chart. They are like the major characters in a
play, each taking charge of an aspect of our life, and leading the story lines in the plots
and sub-plots, and in different time frames too.
I can say that it makes no difference whether you are acquainted with them in
Chinese or otherwise, because even when it is in Chinese, the uninitiated are not able to
comprehend much meaning from their names. Rather, when an appropriate translated
name is given to them, an added dimension is being created for getting to know them
well.
The analogy in the first paragraph implies that personifying the stars would facilitate
our learning about them.
(1) Ziwei the Emperor - As the first star and the leader of the pact, Ziwei can be
likened to a ruler, the ultimate in power. The Emperor (or King, depending on your
culture) is most apt for describing its traits. In Chinese the two characters Zi and Wei
are one, and not to be taken separately, as I have mentioned in the very beginning,
therefore it is wrong to call it anything purple because of the presence of the character
Zi. Hence, the term Purple Star has no connection whatsoever with the Chinese term
Ziwei.
(2) Tianji the Chief Advisor - Tianji is Heavenly Strategy in Chinese. The word Tian,
meaning Heaven, which is found in many other stars too, is simply a noble way to
name something in Chinese. Tianji is a star of many ideas and thoughts, and it lacks
the stature of a leader, therefore it can be likened to the advisor who serves the Emperor.
Think Zhuge Liang, one of the most famed strategists of all times.
(3) Taiyang is the Sun.
(4) Wuqu the Military Minister - Wuqu means military music in Chinese. Perhaps be-
cause marching music keeps a warrior going, it was taken to name the star about quick
actions. Wuqu is about righteousness, action oriented, and steadfastness, therefore, I
have likened it to the defense minister taking order from the ruler.
(5) Tiantong the Contentment Star - Tong means agreement, thus it represents
peacefulness and harmony. The star is about taking life easy, being passive and non-
antagonising, and hence, contentment is acquired easily. Some experts have likened it
to the official who takes charge of royal meals, as it has the traits of going for comfort
and pleasure in life, but it is hard to find such an official title that is known to all.
(6) Lianzhen the Passion Star - It is very difficult to use one name to personify its
diverse qualities. In fact, Lianzhen in Chinese - chastity and honesty hardly give a clue
to what it actually means. This star is primarily about emotions, money, and blood,
but more about the indulgence in feelings and emotions, therefore calling it the Passion
Star is the most appropriate. The term Crimson is being used in the book Emperor’s
Stargate, but the colour red can only indicate one of its three basic meanings.
The 14 Major Stars are the most essential and also the most diversified in their
95
96 CHAPTER 4. THE FOURTEEN MAJOR STARS
traits. The best way to be acquainted with them is to take them as people with different
personality, and it is the reason I think it is best to name them in English by means of
personification. Since Ziwei is likened to an Emperor, it is consistent to name the rest
as the officials in the imperial court, hence Tianfu the Finance Minister, Tianxiang the
Seal Minister, Qisha the Marshal, and so forth.
Although all of them carry a diverse range of traits, some of them are more complex
than others. Lianzhen the Passion Star, for instance, is basically artistic, passionate,
and very emotion-driven, and it can represent luck with reference to wealth, blood or
feelings. Moreover, Lianzhen is also very sensitive to other Major Stars and Main Stars
(the supporting cast of Auspicious Star, Adverse Stars, and the Enhancers) present,
therefore, sometimes, merely looking at Lianzhen alone cannot reveal enough informa-
tion.
Tanlang the Pleasure Star carries a very wide range of qualities too. While it may be
the most indulgent in material and/or physical pleasure, it has also the quality to be
very spiritual. Tanlang the Pleasure Star is one that has the most natural inclination
to metaphysics too. It can also be selfish and accommodating at the same time.
As mentioned, Tianxiang the Seal Minister, in terms of personality, can indicate
inherent clashes within oneself, confusing between being powerful - as the Seal Minister
holds the Imperial Seal for officiating an edict written by the Emperor, and powerless
- the Seal Minister does nothing else and unwilling to do anything else. It is also the
Major Star that is the most sensitive to flanking effect - the aggregate influence by the
stars placed in the immediate houses on its left and right.
As mentioned previously, too, Tianliang the Inspector may carry the provision nature
or the punishment nature. It can also be known as the Problem Solving Star as it can
attract many problems like a magnet.
However, it is exactly because of this very nature that the Major Stars of Ziwei
Doushu provide very interesting information.
The six stars led by Ziwei the Emperor are placed in an anticlockwise sequence, and
the other eight led by Tianfu the Finance Minister are placed in a clockwise sequence.
Due to the given positional relationships between the two leaders, the two sets of Major
Stars cross path to form 24 possible dual Major Stars’ combinations.
Therefore, looking at it mathematically, there are altogether 38 possible types of
Major Stars for a domain - the sum of the 14 stars and their 24 possible combinations.
It is even more interesting when we are assessing a personality profile. Since a
complete profile is established by looking at both the Self Domain for displayed traits
and the Thinking Domain for what goes on in the mind, we can have a minimum of 64
and a maximum of 98 possible types of personalities, depending on how stringent we go
with the star brightness requirement. This is the most interesting part the knowledge
gives me as the intrigue personality differences in people we study become plain and
clear as an open book in Ziwei Doushu.... they can run, but they cannot hide.
4.1 紫微 - Emperor
The representative of this star is the son of Chou Wen Wang, Bo Yi. It is an honored
star. The figure is heavy, strong and fat. The one is honest, modest, polite and frank. In
addition, the one is pretentious and easy to be affected by the words from other people.
The one is capricious, suspicious, narrow-minded, and easy to act impetuously. The
star means authority and haughtiness.

Officials. Solve the distress and prolong one’s life
I Characteristics of the Star 1. Figure (1) The figure is heavy, strong and fate. The
appearance is purple and yellow. (2) The one is experienced, modest and polite. He is
smart but cannot insist personal idea firmly. He has no insistence but likes to dominate
everything.
2.Characters (1) Restrict and reconcile, solve the distress 1. Restrict and reconcile: It
can reduce the influence of the Sha stars. 2. Solve the distress: It can solve the distress
of bad things. It can increase good lucky to change the disadvantageous matters. (2)
Toleration: It can solve the distress for the things that you wish not to meet.
II Explanation of the Palace 1. Life (1) The one has special skill or potential. (2) The
possibility of the miscarriage or dystocia for the one is greater then other people.
III Logic 1. Eternity: The light of the Dipper is not apparent, yet it is eternal and
immobile. It always takes the lost away from dangerous place. Even, the comet has
strong light, yet it can only get a blink of praise.
2. Modesty: From ancient time, people who boasted shooting will die in shooting;
boasted in swimming will die in swimming. The bamboo is praised in modesty though
it is hollow.
3. Haughtiness: 紫微is an emperor star. If the one is too presumptuous and consid-
ers himself to be an emperor, his happiness and luck cannot be lasting. People should
have high and valued wish, lay the basis for future relationship and enjoy the lowest
happiness and fortune. This is the best way for that one.
Ziwei, of Yin Earth element, is the leader of all the stars. It represents dignity and
esteem. Likening Ziwei to an emperor personifies the quality of high ambition, far-
sightedness, pride, power and might. It represents a strong character person in Self
Domain. It is one of the two natural leaders among the 14 Major Stars. However, its
capacity to lead shall depend on other stars present in the Matrix (Sanfang Sizheng).
An emperor needs his subordinates to be present to realise his vision and carry out
his plans, and this is the most important assessment for Ziwei star. We can classify the
structure of Ziwei into four grades, by looking at what are present in the Matrix.
A wise and brilliant Emperor is one who gets many of his good officials in the Matrix,
preferably with stars that are paired together both present, for instance, Zuofu the Left
Deputy and Youbi the Right Deputy both appearing in the Matrix. It is equally good
when the pair-stars are placed in the two adjacent houses on either side of the domain.
The placements of pair-stars in the two adjacent houses create the Flanking Effect,
which exerts great influence to the domain concerned too.
Next, we have the grade of a capable ruler. It is an Emperor who finds Auspi-
cious Stars (good officials) and Adverse Stars (bad officials) both present in the Matrix.
However, the Auspicious Stars have to outnumber the Adverse Stars. The presence of
imperial subordinates ensures that the ruler is capable of achievements.
An isolated Emperor is one who gets no subordinates at all. This means that both
the Auspicious Stars and the Adverse Stars are absent in the Matrix. It is like an
Emperor who roams the wilderness alone without any accompanying officials. For a
personality, this indicates one who holds pride, vision and ideology dearly, but these
qualities cannot be translated into material success in life.
The worst grade is a tyrant dictator. This is when there is no Auspicious Star placed
in the Matrix but many or all of the Adverse Stars are present. There can be some
achievement in life, but they will be overshadowed by many failures, or drastic failures.
98 CHAPTER 4. THE FOURTEEN MAJOR STARS
In Self Domain, it indicates the negative personality traits of someone in power, such as
arrogance, prejudice, and being extremely opinionated, domineering and dominating.
Therefore, we can conclude that Ziwei the Emperor fears the lack of assistants more
than its meeting Adverse Stars.
For Self Domain, a good Emperor is magnanimous and rules with elegance, while
a bad Emperor leads a deteriorating and degrading life. However, a common trait is
that an emperor carries emotions of extreme proportions. Imagine that an emperor
is capable of showering someone with all the imperial favour, while equally capable of
executing someone he abhors.
The best domain to place Ziwei the Emperor Star is the Career Domain. Although
we do grade the Matrix of the domain in the same way mentioned above, we do not
describe the Career Domain with the personality traits of the star. Simply put, Ziwei
here generally indicates the chance of having a career as grand as the emperor has.
Similarly, it is good to place Ziwei the Emperor Star in Estates Domain.
Comparatively, the less appropriate domains to be placed with Ziwei the Emperor are
the interpersonal relationship domains, because it generally means that the opposite
party will be stronger and more capable than the subject will. A good Ziwei in these
domains nevertheless means that the opposite party can be relied upon. But a bad
Ziwei in these domains indicates that the opposite party can be extremely authoritative.
Logically, therefore, it is the worst for Peers Domain to have a bad Emperor Star because
one would never possibly exert control over his/her subordinates.
Ziwei in the Wealth Domain means the ability to spend like a king. It does suggest
generosity towards others too. However, whether one is really rich or merely appear to
be rich shall depend on other stars.
The King, King of Stars, Emperor
This star is the basis for the name of this astrological system, and is also known as
the Emperor Star. Where it falls in your chart is where you are demanding and imperial.
If it falls in your Spouse palace, you will marry someone that wants to be treated like a
king or queen!
命宫Emperors love to command. People with this star in their Ming palace love
praise and demand loyalty. They can be conceited and easily influenced, which can
make them permissive and tolerant. They have tender egos but will often not disclose
their feelings.
紫微is a dominant star, but it possess little of it’s own character. It is heavily depen-
dent on the influence of other stars’ personalities.
The location of the Zi Wei is key to identifying the dominant part of your life. Which
aspect is most important to you? Which aspect of your life consumes you most? Who
overshadows you? If you’d notice, normally people with Zi Wei in their Career court,
tend to be known for their work. Others, will be known for their famous parents, or
famous kids, while others are known for their successful businesses....etc.
With Zi Wei in the Self Court, the person is just a dominant character, and hence
the ego. Other Names: Emperor
The level of brightness of the Zi Wei star is shown below:
People with Zi Wei in the Self Court tend to have these set of qualities:
1. have natural leadership capabilities. How they use their leadership and what kind
of leaders they make will largely depend on how the Zi Wei is affected by the other
stars.
2. are normally the dominant person in the family, often the most accomplished.
3. have big ambitions, and thrive on challenges.
4. are capable, and reliable and competent especially in what they like to do.
5. tend to have big ego.
4.1. 紫微- EMPEROR 99
6. may lead a solitary life, like a monk or priest. This depends on the location. e.g if
located in Mao or You courts.
紫微is the guardian of the self. Like all rulers, it’s effectiveness depends on the char-
acters and personalities of the other stars in his vicinity. He is very much dependent
on the arrangement of the other stars in the same or related courts:
1. with Zuo Fu and/or You Bi are, 紫微is effective, and successful. His life is easy
because of support. Without them, he’ll have to do without much support, in
isolation.
3. The wealth of Tian Fu has a significant effect on 紫微. Related to Tian Fu, 紫微has
the capacity to create wealth.
6. when encountering ”bad” stars like Qing Yang and Tuo Luo, he tends to be unrea-
sonable and unfair.
9. in Yin and Shen Courts, he can be rich if Tian Fu is wealthy. Otherwise his power
hungry character will be reckless and brittle.
10. in Si and Hai Courts, he’ll have natural leadership qualities, but has a strong ego
and craves power. Whether he uses his power in a good or bad way depends on
the influence of other stars.
11. in Chen and Xu Courts, with good stars and influences, this can be a chart of a
high ranking politician, or business person, otherwise it influence the person to
be aggressive due to frustrations and power-hunger.
Friends are influential and often more wealthy. If 紫微has good associations with other
constellations, much help and support will be derived from them. subject may become
the sort that lives off others, and/or may hav a nagging feeling of lagging behind. Sib-
lings may be helpful but want to be treated like the emperor/empress and so may not
get along. (1) The one has elder brother. (2) When the star meets 天府, the one will have
three to four brothers.
Peers Court
Parents Court
Parents /Elders / bosses / clients may be controlling. How good or bad they are depend
on the character of the 紫微and surrounding stars. Parents act like the Emperor, giving
orders, or are well respected as authority figures. (1) The one has rich life in childhood
and his parents can be in high positions in jobs. The affinity between the one and
his father is insipid and solemn. The children will feel the force of constraint from his
parent. (2) When the star meets 天府, 天相, or 贪狼, it means that his parents can have
long life. (3) When the star meets 破军or six Sha stars in the same palace, it means
punishment and malignity.
Karma Court
Subject tends to be ambitious, and strong willed. Depending on other stars, 紫微here
can also cause frustrations and isolatedness. Good stars, bring about good feelings of
ambivalence, and generosity. The mentality is that of a leader, but not necessarily one
in reality. You feel lonely or misunderstood. (1) The one can get help from important
person, especially from elders or people with high level. (2) The one is enthusiastic
about public welfare, yet his inner world is vacant. (3) It would be better for the star
meets 天府, 天相or Tian Ji in the same palace. It is troublesome if the star meets Po Jun
or six Sha stars in the same palace.
Children
As in Brothers and Peers Courts, the Children / employees / followers / students will
be strong, capable, successful, domineering. Relationship with them depends on the
influence of positive or negative stars surrounding. Few children. They have poise, but
are difficult to teach because they have their own ideas. (1) The one will have a daughter
first and then get a son.
Health Court
Problems likely in spleen, head, stomach areas. Overall health depends on the other
stars influence on 紫微. Stomach/spleen/digestive. Pay attention to hypertension in
old age.
Spouse Court
Spouse dominates the household. He/She is capable, and independent, but relation-
ship depends on influence of th 紫微. If 紫微has good influence, subject may benefit
from your spouse leadership abilities, otherwise he may suffer from having a tyrannical
partner. Your spouse wants to be treated like an emperor or empress. This can cause
dissatisfaction for you. (1) The ones wife is virtuous and has the sense of responsibil-
ity. (2) When the star meets 天相, it means the one with his spouse will live happily.
(3)When the star meets Tan Lang, it means the marriage might have obstacles.
Properties Court
Living space tends to be on high ground. Business (if any) can be successful with good
influences on the 紫微. It is then probably advisable to do a business, especially one
that deals with investments and power / politics. You like high altitudes, mountainous
areas, and busy cities. (1) The fortune for this star is easy to go and easy to come.
The one has the ability of managing money. It does not mean the one can get large
property. (2) The house is located in high class area. The house is in all buildings and
4.1. 紫微- EMPEROR 101
great mansions. Or the house is in a place which is higher than other places. (3) It the
star meets 天相with lucky star, it means great fortune. (4) It the star meets Po Jun or
Tan Lang star, it means the residence nearby is bustling.
Career Court
Subject stands out in your career, because he is capable, competent and skilled at it.
What kind of career choice depends upon the other stars. If chosen right, subject can
be very successful here. You may work people of high society. 9. Career (The master
of the palace)(belongs to earth) (1) The one can have smooth business in his whole
life. (2) When the star meets Chi Sha in the same palace, it means the one can be a
government officials or the greatest person in a faction. (3) The one can do the job as
scholar, engineer, teachers, public servant, or boss for some enterprise.
Travel Court
紫微here could mean lots of travel possibilities, and they are successful ones. If the
combinations are good, subject can command respect and even fame. Subject also
tends to be charismatic, and people react to that. People will help you during travel. 7.
Travel It will be good for the one to go outside. It is suitable for the one to go abroad for
business (or trade). Yet if it is in the same palace with Po Jun or six Sha stars, then the
one would be envied by villains easily.
Wealth Court
Money can come from status, power. Subject likes to spend. Whether or not he’ll
be really wealthy depends on, of course the whole structure associated with the 紫微.
Money comes easily. (1) The range of the wealth is big and wide for the one, such as
stocks, houses and lands. (4)The one can get assistance from other people, such as
parents, brothers and friends. (5)The one is elegant in dress even if he fails in business.
102 CHAPTER 4. THE FOURTEEN MAJOR STARS
1. with positive stars like Wen Chan and Wen Qu, or with good transformation influ-
ences, he is dependable and administers to his tasks faithfully.
2. with more destructive stars like Tuo Luo, Qing Yang, or influenced by Hua ji Trans-
formation energy, he’ll be less effective at his duties, and become too cautious and
suspicious.
3. Tian Xiang is closely related to Ju Men. The health of Ju Men affects the effective-
ness of Tian Xiang.
4. at Yin and Shen courts, he is skillful and clever. He administers to his work in
diligently .
5. in Zi and Wu courts, he is a well-balanced all-rounder. Responsible and humble,
yet had a twinge of innovative spirit.
6. in Chou and Wei courts, he has a calming influence on the more aggressive stars
in the structure.
7. in Mao and You Courts, as with Chou and Wei courts.
8. in Si and Hai Courts, he is challenged by the stars in his structure. Normally his
presence has a calming effect on them.
9. in Chen and Xu Courts, he is more ambitious and less likely to settle of just the
supporting role. Often he has an influence over the Zi Wei Star in the same court.
How good or bad his influence is depends on the presence of the other stars.
4.2. TIAN XIANG - PRIME MINISTER 103
1. Brothers Court: Siblings / friends are generally supportive and helpful. Depending
on the other stars in the court, it could mean that these people are more success-
ful than the subject, leaving him to feel overshadowed. Depends on which stars
are with it. The siblings are mostly close, but with a bad star can create more
disharmony.
2. Peers Court: As with brothers court. Your friends are true peers and have the
same interests and age as you.
4. Karma Court: Thoughts and feelings are mixed. Depending on the other stars in
the court, subject might have mixed feelings, unable to come to a conclusion on
things. Often he take the ”moral stance”, but sometimes there are temptations.
This depends on the 10-year cycle to determine if Tian Xiang here is good.
7. Spouse Court: Spouse is capable and supportive. If structure is good, can indicate
that spouse is successful. Relationship situation has a lot ot do with the presence
of other stars and transformations. Spouse may be rather passive and dependent.
If with 4 Wu Qu, the spouse is good sometimes and mean at others.
9. Career Court: Subject is likely a good worker, trustworthy and stable. Best suited
to work in a big organization where his loyalty will pay off. Your career is stable
but you are probably lacking some ambition and drive with it. If with 4 Wu Qu,
you have side income.
10. Travel Court: Emigration and travels are likely, since subject will tend to like
change (with Puo Jun) in the Self Court. People tend to regard this individual as
dependable, and capable (whether or not it is true). Travel goes well with others
because you are agreeable.
11. Wealth Court: wealth is achieved depending on the powers of the other stars on
the structure. Tian Xiang helps to keep it stable and lasting. Analyse the court for
the possiblities. The rating of this star indicates how well money management will
go. Rating of 1 is good, rating of 5 is bad
Tian Xiang the administrator who takes care of duties. Although he doesn’t create
much of a stir or controversy, he supports and stabilizes the actions of other stars.
Because of its considerable passivity, whether Tian Xiang is good or bad depends
upon its relationship with other stars. It is good if matched with auspicious stars and
bad if paired with inauspicious stars.

lacks of character. Therefore the property of the star is very important. If a woman has
Tian Xiang and Chang Chu in the same palace, she must be clever but short life. In
addition, the Tain Xiang determines the greatness or shortness of the power according
to the degree of others star greeting.
2. There is no fixed lucky star or bad star. It depends on the nature of the star
that meets with this star. The first key point is the condition of Tian Xiang, Zi Wei, Wu
Qu and Lian Chen. The second key point is in the action of clip. One who mixes with
vermilion will turn red, one who touches pitch shall be defiled therewith. Many things
have relation to do with personal character.

Hua Ji or Tian Ma, variation will occur. (4)Comparison Tian Ji: lively, making repre-
sentation and planning Po Jun and Chi Sha: unsettling human life
Tian Ji Always Moving, Motor
The Tian Ji star is a dynamic, thinking star. It is seldom sitting still. In the Courts
that it sits in, it causes change. Often the changes are minor, but disruptive.
The best way to deal with Tian Ji, is to go with it’s flow, by taking measures against
early long term commitments, or taking jobs that are too routine.
Tian Ji can be a very positive star when the structure around it is good. It is intelli-
gent. Use its power.
II Explanation of the Palace 1. Life (1) The one is interested in the affairs and is the
talent of secretary. (2) The one is born to have good drinking capacity. (3) The one has
the potential of exercise. (4) The one is nervous debility.
MING: Tian Ji is a very active star, causing physical movement or active thoughts.
Tian Ji loves to learn new things, but lacks perseverance. Jack of all trades, master of
none.
These people are quick learning and good at mediation or public relations. If bad
stars are present (e.g. Hua Ji), the person may get into trouble for being too smart for
his own good. Tian Ji in a palace indicates much change and instability.
Tian Ji represents active intelligence, but can be unstable because of it’s change-
able nature. This can indicate someone who learns quickly and is a great negotiator.
However, if located in your Spouse palace, it can represent instability in your marriage.
Other descriptions: Mercy, Advisor, Strategist, Engineer, Skillful, Crafty

for trickery.

speaker. His achievement can be progressive with a good structure. With harmful

the flow. Easy to work with. He can be very successful especially if its structure is
good.

children. May be better to have children late in life. not a close relationship with
employees and followers, but these people can be good for analytical projects, but if
structure is bad, Subject might suffer from trickery. Intelligent, active children. Often
more girls than boys, and sons often come late. Stepchildren or half-siblings. Miscar-
riage if with Hua Ji. The one does not have so many children. Yet the children are vivid,
smart and lively.

and is surrounded by too many harmful stars.

dislike being dominated over.

more effective..

formation by Hua Ji, he’ll be miserly, crafty with financial dealings, stingy and
frustrated by lack of finances.
4. at Mao or You courts, he is conservative, calm and stable. Good stars and trans-
formation influences will make him successful, poor influences will be frustrating.
5. in Zi and Wu courts, he likes to control and hoard money, and is often good at it.
Things will be difficult if the other influences are poor.

which may lead to under performance if there are negative influences.

depends on the other stars affecting it.
8. in Si and Hai Courts, he has more guts here. Results of his ventures depends
upon influences.
9. in Chen and Xu Courts,he is more willing to take some calculated risk . However
he needs support from good stars and transformations.
Use the power of Tian Fu for managing relationships and creating stability.
It is suitable for the one to go outside for walking. If the star can appear with Wu Qu
and Lian Chen on the same palace, it means the one can get the money in undulated
circumstance.
2. tend to be materialistic when influenced by the wealth stars. Good or bad be-
havour and outcome depends on the star brightness and influences.

other stars.

can be self destructive.

esting fine arts and spirituality.

good transformations in the Wealth Court.
1. with positively artistic stars like Wen Chan and Wen Qu, his actions are elegant.
2. with more destructive stars like Tuo Luo, Qing Yang, is behavour is extreme and
self destructive.
3. Di Kong and Di Jie enables him to be more spiritual and abstract in thinking.
5. at Yin and Shen courts, he has a volatile nature. He may have successes, but they
may be short lived due to acquiring things too easily in the beginning.
7. in Chou and Wei courts, he is the sort that enjoys life and takes things easy.
Success can come to him only of he bucks up. That will depend on other healer
stars in the structure.
8. in Mao and You Courts, as in Zi and Wu courts, his strenght is powerful, and so
are his desires.
4.5. 贪狼- GREEDY WOLF 117
9. in Si and Hai Courts, his artistic side is very powerful here, also his sexual desires.
Depending on the influences, his behavour can either bring him happiness or
woes. There can be lots of upheavals.
10. In Chen and Xu Courts, his progress comes in stages. With action, he can be suc-
cessful. Influence by other stars and transformations may indicate how success
can be achieved and the longevity of the success.
贪狼star has many facets. He is about desire. Sexual, artistic, esoteric...it depends
on the stars influencing it. His tendencies can bring good fortune or self destruction.
贪狼also a deliverer of unexpected things, like wealth and love. Ling Xing and Huo
Xing are stars that some say can bring forth unexpected gains e.g. lottery winnings.
Qing Yang and/or Tuo Luo can also cause the reverse to happen.
贪狼has an opportunistic character. That leaves him with a speculative frame of
mind. Gains brought about in this way can be lost as easily.
Use this star for its charming quality, enjoy the surprises of winnings, or the plea-
sure from spiritual thoughts.
The one is indomitable, has desire in many things, and has good appetite.
III Logic Ju Men and Hua Lu can lead fortune. Yet this star is not a wealth star, so
the fortune is limited. If Hua Quan meets Ju Men in the same palace, the one will have
authority. If Hua Ji meets Ju Men in the same palace, the quarrel will be all over the
sky. The Ju Men does not meet Hua Ke, the one will not get fames with eloquence only,
but has to match with specialty and achievements.
Similar to Mercury in Western astrology, this star governs communication or how
you use your ”mouth”. If well positioned, it gives gifts as an orator or public speaker. If
poorly positioned, you can spend a lot of your life ”with your foot in your mouth”.
The Ju Men star is talker. He can be very eloquent like a charming politician, a
skillful lawyer, a lecturer, reporter, or he he can be a slanderous gossiper. It depends
on the brightness of the star and the brightness of 太阳; and the overall influences
around the court where 巨门resides.
Ju Men is also a competitor. His competitive side can enable him to succeed in a
competitive environment, like business and sport. This fact, however tend to also cause
him to be envious of others.
These people are subtle about getting what they want, and can be jealous of others.
Other descriptions: Speaker, Messenger, Door, Gossip, Envy
The level of brightness of the Ju Men star is shown below:
命宫: Ju Men has to do with speaking, eloquence, and ones ability to express oneself
verbally. However, since the door is big, people with Ju Men in their 命宫can easily get
into trouble because of their speech, saying the wrong thing, saying it at the wrong time
or otherwise misspeaking. To help avoid this kind of trouble, it is best for these people
to have professions where they use their mouth (teaching, sales, politics, entertainers,
attorneys, public relations, etc.)
1. Life (1)Figure Plain appearance, protruding cheekbone, erect nose, big mouth,
eyes with might, strong hands and feet, loud voice, suspicion
(2)Xing Hu
I.When the star meets Qing Yang, Tuo Luo on the same palace, the one will marry at
a late age
II.When Huo, Ling, Bai Hu meet together in San He, it means encountering fire.
(3)Pattern Though this star is bad, yet Zi Wei and Lu Cun can release the bad fate.
People with Ju Men in the Self Court tend to have these set of qualities:
3. tend to gossip, slander, back stab if structure has too many unfavorable stars.
5. prone to jealousy
2. with more destructive stars like Tuo Luo, Qing Yang, or influenced by Hua ji Trans-
formation energy, he is likely to spend time in slander, back-stabbing due to jeal-
ousy; then again these stars can make him more decisive and competitive.
3. Ju Men is closely related to Tai Yang (the Sun). A bright Tai Yang will give Ju Men
an edge.
122 CHAPTER 4. THE FOURTEEN MAJOR STARS
5. at Shen court, his energy is weak and tend to lack determination and endurance
to take on challenges.
6. in Zi and Wu courts, he has great potential and needs to work hard at refining his
skills to succeed.
7. in Chou and Wei courts, life can be difficult in early days. It can improve later on
if the structure changes with transformations.
8. in Mao and You Courts, there is a potential for success, whether it is possible to
hold on to it depends upon the transformations and stars that influence the star.
9. in Si and Hai Courts, he is a good messenger. His ability to bring wealth and
success depends on his brightness and the other stars in the structure.
10. in Chen and Xu Courts, he is a bit unsettled. It might take some time for him to
find his niche in many aspects of his life. Good transformations can improve the
situation and bring him to success.
4.7 武曲 - General
The 武曲star is the finance manager. It is also metal, which had a brittle character.
Other stars will affect its attitude towards money making. If structure is good, he’ll be
skilled at investments. Otherwise he may get reckless and lose everything. He may even
get into a violent situation if structure is too brittle. In some instances, military career
is suitable.
武曲also has a special quality of being multi-skilled. This is especially so in the
presence of Puo Jun and/or Wen Chang and Wen Qu. In this case, he can make a
career in creative occupations like performance arts.
MING: 武 曲is the hardworking army general. This star can accumulate wealth
through labor. These people can have successful careers but, like a general, they make
decisions on their own and prefer to give orders, not take them. They are workaholics,
can be cold-hearted, and find it difficult to maintain close relationships. They are opin-
ionated and strong. Women with 武曲in their Ming Gong often lead their husbands and
are competitive with men.
The representative of this star is Chou Wu Wang. He is the god of fortune and
handles wealth, bravery and longevity. Yet it is a star of widowed nature, so it is not
good for a woman. The one will have white face, wide forehead, rough brows, hard hair,
sturdy character, honesty and personal loyalty, straightforward temper, new ideas at
any time, systematization in work.
I Characteristics of the Star 1. Figure and temper (1)Figure Round face, cold ex-
pression if no smile, strong body, not too fat but in good health, unusual thick hair
(2)Temper Chastity, heroic and indomitable attitude, fortitude, docility
2. Characters (1)Wealth Star The one can have good performance in career. If Tian Ji
is named as planner, then 武曲can be regarded as executor. (2)Personality Straightfor-
wardness, gentleness, loud voice, making prompt decisions, having tolerance (3) Soli-
tary I.For a man a. This star is suitable for a man but not a woman for it will affect the
marriage.
II.For a woman a. The star is not good for a woman. So it would be better for the
woman to have a job and the husband should be elder than the woman about seven
years old. III.Marriage a. Suitable for marriage at a more mature age b. If the star
meets Huo Xing, then such combination will be good for the marriage. (4)Variation I. If
武曲and Chi Sha (or Po Jun, Tan Lang) with Si Hua are at the same palace, a special
power will appear and is benefit to the wealth. (5)Si Hua(武曲is sensitive to Si Hua) I.
When 武曲meets Hua Lu: suitable for trade II. When 武曲meets Hua Quan:benefit in
military service III. When 武曲meets Hua Ke: benefit in civil service IV. When 武曲meets
Hua Ji: can earn the money but cannot save it
II Explanation of the Palace 1. Life (1)The one can own fortune by working hard. The
job must relate to economics and metal. (2)Suitable for the job of military, police
III Logic 1. If the star meets Hua Lu in the same palace, the one will have good
wealth; if the star meets Hua Ji, then the one will be bankrupt. The one is firm in be-
havior and does not hesitate in making decisions. The one seldom reminds the passing
things, but looks into the future. So it will be benefit for him to have correct judgement,
if not he will fail. The key point is that he needs a brain trust and good friends.
2. If the star is in the Friends palace, the one will be hurt by villains. Please pay
attention to making friends.
3. The big reason that influences wealth is the happiness and luck, the second rea-
son is will and career. Losing great fortune will influence the strategy and thoughts for
the future. No fortune, no happiness. To start an enterprise or take up an occupation
must depend on your wealth and then match up with interest, will and the background
of expertise.
Wuqu the Military Minister is one of the three wealth stars, and also one of the three
126 CHAPTER 4. THE FOURTEEN MAJOR STARS
fighters. This is because it is of Yin Metal property, and weaponry and ancient coins
were both made of metal.
Although it does represent wealth, as a fighter, Wuqu is quick and vigorous, and it is
action oriented. The other two wealth stars are Tianfu the Finance Minister and Taiyin
the Moon. Tianfu is conservative while Taiyin is quiet and it focuses more on planning,
therefore, among the three wealth stars, Wuqu is more likened to be a businessperson -
one who takes action and acts fast for acquiring wealth. Therefore, we can understand
that it is best to be placed in Wealth Domain, and it is the star that benefits best from
the presence of Lucun the Treasurer or Hualu the Flow Enhancer. With the presence of
Tiankui the Status Star and Tianyue the Reputation Star, while provided that there are
no Adverse Stars present, Wuqu in Self Domain indicates the capacity to be a powerful
figure in the finance world. Without the presence of Lucun the Treasurer, Hualu the
Flow Enhancer, and other Auspicious Stars, quick thinking and quick actions do not
assure successes for Wuqu the Military Minister.
On the other hand, quick and vigorous nature could easily be the cause of disastrous
failures when Wuqu finds Adverse Stars present in its Matrix. Therefore, it is the Major
Star that gets greater negative impact from Huaji the Negative Enhancer and Adverse
Stars more than other Major Stars does.
As a wealth star, it is good to be placed in the Career Domain and the Estates Domain
too. In Career Domain, an auspicious Wuqu represents business acumen and assures
success in business, or the financial sector.
The inappropriate domains to place Wuqu are the Travel Domain and the interper-
sonal relationship domains. The English name I have given serves to remind that it
is more apt for the Military Minister to stay in the imperial court near where the em-
peror is, which means that one needs to strive harder when away from home when it is
placed in the Travel Domain. The tough character and quick nature of Wuqu is another
reason, for it suggests that tact is lacking when interacting with others.
And, its tough character is the main reason Wuqu the Military Minister is an inaus-
picious star in interpersonal relationship domains. Its worst placement is in the Love
Domain. Here, it definitely needs the presence of Auspicious Stars to reduce or alter
the negative effect in order to have a fine relationship and an ordinary marriage.
武曲 The Army General, Dance 武曲represents military authority. In your Wealth
palace, this star can bring prosperity and a successful career. However, those with this
star in their first house can be the type who gives orders easier than taking them!
Other descriptions: Finance, Wealth Creator,Wealth Manager, Investor
The level of brightness of the 武曲star is shown below:

Qu in related courts..

5. with Puo Jun, the subject tend to have a hectic life; partly due to his brittle char-
acter.
6. a tendency to violence (because of money) if star is related to Qing Yang, Tuo Luo,
Huo Xing. Some advice in this case, for person to take up career as Surgeon /
Butcher ...etc. that’s knufe related.
7. Person has a potential to create wealth, unless there are too many harmful ele-
ments around the Self court, or if 武曲is transformed to Hua Ji.
4.7. 武曲- GENERAL 127
8. tendency to be a loner.
武曲is an described as brittle, skillful, strong-willed, wealth creator. Influenced by
other stars can change the character of this star. 武曲can be generalised like so:
1. with positively artistic stars like Wen Chan and Wen Qu,has outstanding skills.
2. with more destructive stars like Tuo Luo, Qing Yang, he will have a violent nature.
3. 武曲is a wealth creator. He is useful if the structure is good. But will be the other
extreme if transformed to Hua Ji.
4. at 寅and 申courts, he is skilled. Type of skill depends on the other stars.
5. in 子and 午courts, he is good at handling money and creating wealth. Extent of
which depends on structure.

results later in life.

very successful; otherwise, he could face sudden losses too.
What 武曲can mean in other courts:
4. tend to be artistic, carefree and romantic , almost to the point of being self-
indulgent; if star is bright, has a good structure, and influenced by Wen Chang
and Wen Qu.
5. tend to be wicked, spiteful ,envious if the star is not bright and is surrounded by
too many harmful stars.
MING: Lian Zhen is the politician star and in the Ming is good for public office.
However, like a politician, Lian Zhen is easily influenced, and can create instability in
the life. Lian Zhen is ambitious, loves to make friends, tells people what they like to
hear, and is attractive to the opposite sex. People with Lian Zhen in their Ming love to
excel and like to gamble and drink, especially with rating 3, 4 or 5. They have a good
sense of humor and are risk takers.
Influenced by other stars he can exhibit extremes in character. Lian Zhen can be
generalized like so:
1. with positively artistic stars like Wen Chang and Wen Qu, he is artistic, flirtatious,
sociable, and very emotion driven.
2. with more destructive stars like Tuo Luo, Qing Yang, Tian Xing, and/or transfor-
mation hy Hua Ji, his character is mean, wicked and spiteful, full of hate. Most
of the time, of course, there is a mix of good and bad stars around Lian Zhen,
and that describes someone who exhibits extreme in character, mood swings, or a
tendency to love and hate to the extreme.
4. Mao or You courts, he is unstable. Being influenced by Puo Jun, there will be a
lot of external and internal turbulence. It will prove to bring about good outcome
if transformations are good, otherwise it can also mean accidents and turmoil..

tempered character. It can be changed with the education. (3) The one has good human
relations.
III Logic
1. The one has the mind to make progress. He has strong temper. Yet the one is
easy, generous, and humorous. 2. The one has the character of aiming too high and
has vanity. So he always falls down painful abyss.
2. Brothers (1) Elder and younger brothers are heartless. (2) When the star is in the
palace singly, the one will have two brothers. (3) When the star meets Tian Tong, the
one will have two brothers. When the star meets Chi Sha, the one will have one brother.
Peers Court
Parents Court
Karma Court
Subject can be someone who loves the arts, be emotional if influenced by Wen Chang
and Wen Qu, or he could be promiscuous, if influenced by too many ”peach Blossom”
stars like Tian Yao, Yian Yue. He tends to worry too much. Unstable, changeable
thoughts. Too much running around unnecessarily. The one works hard with mind.
When he meets troubles, someone will save him and help him.
Children
Relationship can be either very close, or very difficult depending on the structure. Sub-
ject will find difficulty understanding the relationship perhaps because of its extreme
situation. Your children like to take things apart to understand them. Be careful with
electrical things. (1) The children are rebellious and like to study everything. They usu-
ally take the toys apart. So you have to watch them out to avoid danger occurrence. (2)
When the star is in the palace singly, the one will have one child. When the star meets
Tian Xiang, the one will have two children.
Health Court
Problems blood, heart, kidney, sexual organs; possible surgery. Many small health
problems, heart trouble. In later years you may suffer insomnia. The one is impatient
and has insomnia. So the cold will be easy to find him such as canker sore. In addition,
the one has weak mechanism of duodenum.
Marriage Domain 夫 妻 宫
Expect highly emotional relationship. Success of failure depends on the structure. Too
many peach blossom stars can indicated the one or both partners love affairs outside.
Presence of more stable stars like Tian Xian, Tian Fu , can bring about a more stable
relationship. Your spouse is very friendly with a rating of 1 or 2, and picks arguments
with a rating of 4 or 5. (1) If there is no Hua Ji or Liu Sha in the same palace of this
star, the one is suitable for the job of public office and has good position. (2) This star is
not a wealth star. When it is in the palace singly, the spouse of the one works hard and
does not seek wealth. (3)Other influence The one has beautiful appearance and knows
human interest, so the one has good human relations. Besides, the one has principle
of life.
134 CHAPTER 4. THE FOURTEEN MAJOR STARS
Lianzhen Hua Ji in Love domain It certainly is bad to have Lianzhen Huaji in Love
Domain, in terms of the given trends (??). Therefore, the knowledge gives us the chance
to be more prepared and not to take a relationship for granted. However, the degree
of impact cannot be specified for an individual because our karma is different. The
worst (or philosophically, the best) is the inability to find love; the most common is
often encountering bad romance; the generic in terms of effect is that it is more severe
on one’s emotion (negative Passion Star = negative emotions).
Presence of Youbi the Right Deputy may represent a third party in the relationship.
Properties Court
Home can be very good or very run down, depends on the structure. Normally subject
doesn’t own property, or owns one with difficulty. It is all subjective because this star
has extreme characteristics, unless in the presence of more stable stars like Tian Fu and
Tian Xiang. Business is likely to do with beauty, fashion, pubs and Bars, entertainment
or sex industry. You either have wealth or bankruptcy. (1) When the star meets Chi
Sha, the one cannot depend on the ancestor fortune but works hard to earn money.
(2) When the star meets Hua Ji, there must be quarrels in the house of that one. In
addition, the electric equipments in the house often break down.
Career Court
Expect to thrive on jobs in the arts / entertainment / beauty industry, or anything that
requires PR work, especially where charm is required. Officer, judge, military.
Masters career palace. The one can do public office. If the one want to do job in the
private enterprise, it is suitable for the one to do work in the way of electric equipment
and technique.
Travel Court
With good transformations and helpful stars, Subject enjoys socializing when he travels.
In bad structure or with transformations by Hua Ji, it can mean getting hurt while
abroad. In some cases it might indicated going to a place illegally. Be careful if Lian
Zhen is transformed by Hua Ji. It can mean a serious accident. You have to work
hard. If your work is far from home, you may labor heavily. When it meets lucky star,
it means it is safe for the one to go outside. In addition, the one must work hard and
has unexpected encounter. It is suitable for the one to go to a big city for development.
In leisure time, the one likes to climb a mountain and goes for a picnic.
Wealth Court
Very extreme possibilities. In good structure, money can be made through involvement
in creative arts, investments, person can be wealthy. However, when bad transforma-
tions influence the structure, problems may arise due to disputes, over-speculation,
which can result in bankruptcy at some point. Money comes and goes. With 4 or 5,
you enjoy gambling.
Moreover, when you want to see where money comes from, i think we’re meant to
look at the career and blessing/karma palace as well.
(1)Wealth Star
This star is wealth star, yet the variation is big. It means the one get the money easily
and looses the money easily. Any official job can help the one to reduce the variation. If
the one want to have individual business, please choose a work with nature of service
to supplement the inadequacy of wealth. (2)Enjoyment
4.8. LIAN ZHEN - PROPRIETY 135
The one values substance enjoyment such as decoration, cars, clothes, tours, en-
tertainments and food. (3)Comparison 廉贞: The one knows when is suitable to spend
money and know what kind of money worthy to obtain. For social activities, the one
will spend lots of money to increase human relations. 贪狼: The one is good at man-
aging money. So he can use the money in different ways. The income is obtained by
opportunity. And he will spend money due to social activities. 天机: The one prefers to
earn opportunistic wealth. He has strong ability of turnover. The way of technique is
really suitable for the one.
136 CHAPTER 4. THE FOURTEEN MAJOR STARS
to be born in daylight hours too. Otherwise, these descriptions are somewhat reduced
for someone who is born at night.
For a Taiyang placed in dim positions, its steadfastness remains present though not
as apparent. However, the other two traits are reduced to a lower degree because it
is not giving as much light and heat at night: Life is less of a burden because it is
providing less; and it has fewer detractors because it attracts less attention. But the
catch here is that Taiyang the Sun in dim houses gets less recognition too. Again, a
person who is born at night is worse off for a dim Sun, than one who is born in the day.
As the other ultimate leader besides Ziwei the Emperor Star, the grades of Taiyang
the Sun is also assessed according to how many aides it has in the basic structure,
and whether both the Auspicious Stars that come in pairs are present together in the
Matrix. When a bright Taiyang has perfect combinations of supporting casts, it can
be even more outstanding than a Ziwei that has them. This is because it is the basic
nature of Taiyang the Sun to shine, while Ziwei the Emperor is not as much exposed
due to its high self esteem and pride. However, the presence of Adverse Stars can cause
bad results from being outstanding.
And, again identical to Ziwei the Emperor Star, it is best to place it in Career Domain,
which indicates a bright and shining career. This is especially so in Si (E6) and Wu (E7)
houses. Wealth Domain, however, is not its best position because the star is more about
status and reputation than wealth. Whether in Self or Wealth Domain, Taiyang the Sun
always indicates some form of financial burden or bearing extra financial duty, because
the star is about giving/providing. Estates Domain is not suitable either because the
Sun is continuously on the move, however, this nature is good for Travel Domain, and
it indicates that one gets recognition easily overseas.
In relationship domains, Taiyang the Sun always suggests that it is easier to have
frictions with male counterparts, namely, husband for a woman, and father, son, and
male friends for both genders. It may be at a minimum when the Sun is in bright
houses, but it is obvious when it is in dim houses, or when the person is born at night.
Tai Yang hua ji: taiyang huaji in the spouse palace.....
it also depends how strong is the taiyang.... which location... any bad stars, and
sanfangsizheng.
but my pov tai yang hua ji relates to gossips, selfishness, some sort of mysterious,
stubborness, of course perhaps on your side as male it becomes draining.
Tai Yang The Sun The symbolism of the Sun is expansive and expressive, but can
also indicate an area where we are boastful and blunt.
Other descriptions:The Sun
The level of brightness of the Tai Yang star is shown below:
People with Tai Yang in the Self Court tend to have these set of qualities:
1. independent, open-minded, and status conscious.
2. elegant, benevolent, and has an air of sophistication, in courts where Tai Yang is
bright and associated with helpful assistant stars.
3. less elegant, more hungry for recognition and calculative, in courts where the Tai
Yang is dim.
4. tendency to be extravagant and showy, and most likely to stand out from the
crowd.
5. display the better star qualities when born in the daytime 3am-3pm.
6. tend not to have good relationship with the father; especially so for those born at
night.
7. can expect a degree of fame / status and fortune, if born in the daytime, in bright
court and surrounded by good helper stars.
138 CHAPTER 4. THE FOURTEEN MAJOR STARS
1. with positively artistic stars like Wen Chan and Wen Qu, he elegant and generous.
He is well regarded by others as a shining example. In bright courts, he can hold
high status.
2. with more destructive stars like Tuo Luo, Qing Yang, his actions are always seen
in a negative light; he will face difficulties, and will go about in any way to gain
attention.
3. Tai Yang, at his darkest, can be vain, and self absorbed.
4. With destructive stars like Di Kong and Di Jie, he is liken to being shrouded by a
cloud. His character will be passive, and almost reclusive.
5. at Mao court, the star is bright, he will have status and even wealth if he is ac-
companied by helper stars like Wen Chang.
6. at You court, the star he will can be successful with fame, but he tends not to
follow through with his plans.
7. in Zi court, he is sensitive, less effective, less confident in a dim court.
8. in Wu Court, his is over confident, extravagant. It can be good or bad depending
on the other stars.
9. in Chou and Wei courts, he is being influenced by Tai Yin, which is his opposite.
He tends to be unpredictable and uncertain about how to react to situations.
10. in Yin and Shen Courts, enthuisiatic and talkative. He is brighter in the Yin Court,
there he’ll be more effective with his actions and words.
11. in Si and Chen Courts, he is bright. With good influences, his powers will shine.
12. In Hai and Xu Courts, he is dim. Fame is not likely though he can be successful
monetarily. He is also less generous and more extravagant.
The Tai Yang is the Sun. It is warm, sophisticated, generous. It’s power is its ability
to project itself and get famous. In courts where this star is dim, and/or affected by
harmful stars, it is likened to be a sun on a cloudy day - ineffective.
To a certain extent, Tai Yang represents husband and/or father to a female, and self
to a male subject.
Qing Yang, Tuo Luo, Huo Xing and Ling Xing are harmful to Tai Yang. Their influence
may bring about undisciplined sex and substance abuse, overspending, vanity and poor
relationships.
The best way to deal with Tai Yang, is to allow its strengths to flourish. If it is not
strong, use the qualities of the neighboring stars in the structure to help it along.
1. Life (1) Harm to masculine of near relations (2) The woman might complain or
might be fastidious to her spouse. The suitable job for the woman is study, joining
examination, literature and art, and public service. (3) The one will be easy to suffer
from eyes disease, neurasthenia, heart disease, blood vessels disease and diabetes.
MING: Tai Yang represents brightness, altruism, and generosity. Tai Yang (the sun)
symbolizes masculinity, is very blunt, and tends to show off. Women with Tai Yang in
their Ming are very competent and ambitious.
Tai Yang here is good for people born during the day the sun is bright so they can
succeed and achieve fame easily. Tai Yang here for people born at night is more difficult
4.9. TAI YANG - SUN 139
the sun is dark and they will often work very hard for very little reward. In a woman’s
chart in the Ming or Spouse Palace with a rating of 4 or 5, her mate will hurt her in
some way physically, emotionally, etc.
People with 太阴and 太阳in the same Palace are very changeable.
(4) The one will be rich. He likes to deliberate and has quiet personality.
(5)Six good stars
1.It would be good to meet Liu Ji stars and Lu Cun.
(6)Liu Sha stars
1.It would be bad to meet Liu Sha stars in this palace, for it means discouragement.
(7)Si Hua
Everything will be good when the star meets any one of the Si Hua stars.
III Logic
1. The moon is not hot or light than the Sun, the contribution of the moon also
is smaller than the sun. Yet if people show the zeal excessively, they might beckon
complaint. Keeping certain distance for getting along with other people, you will get
unimaginable results.
2. When someone is rich, he might not develop or show his talent and ability com-
pletely. Yet when someone is in bad condition, he will do everything if he can for making
a living.
3. The one is independent and seldom gets assistance from relatives or friends.
Tai Yin The Moon The symbolism here is the same as the Moon in Western astrology;
psychic skills, intuition and feminine traits are indicated. If this falls in your self house,
it is said to make you very physically attractive.
Other descriptions: Moon, Mother
The level of brightness of the Tai Yin star is shown below:
II Explanation of the Palace 1. Life (1)The one is harmful to close relatives due to the
insufficient sentiment in blood relation or the bad condition in health of the one.
(2)Suitable careers: study, science, attending an examination, work in the literary
and artistic fields, public service and so on.
(3)The one will be easily to have the disease of the urinary system.
(4) Keeping conservative thought in the job can help the one maintain auspicious-
ness. The job with competitiveness is not the suitable one for the one.
People with Tai Yin in the Self Court tend to have these set of qualities:
4. with a poor structure, transformation and if it is dim, the person will have diffi-
culties achieving success, and be quite disagreeable.
Tai Yin is an described as feminine, tranquil, nocturnal, graceful. Tai Yin is better
for people born in the night time. Tai Yin can be generalized like so:
1. with positively artistic stars like Wen Chang and Wen Qu, can get quite sensitive.
2. with more destructive stars like Tuo Luo, Qing Yang, Tian Xing, and/or transfor-
mation hy Hua Ji, she’ll face difficulties, hurt feelings, and/or resort to evil deeds,
trickery
5. at You and Xu, Hai court, she is clever, and competent. Able to build wealth
especially when influences are favorable.
6. in Zi and Chen court, she is influenced by the lazy dazy star Tian Tong, though
capable, tends to take things easy; on the flip side though unambitious she is a
loyal partner.
7. in Wu court, she might face difficulties getting things done , due to dimness of her
star and Tai Yang.
8. in Chou and Wei court, she is secretive and unpredictable, tend to show duality in
character, although is capable in getting things done.
9. in Yin and Shen Courts, she is stable, more down to earth, less sensitive. With
good influence, she can make good progress.
10. in Si Court, dimness makes problems for success. With good transformations,
success will come.
4.10.5 Children 子 女 宫
generally warm relationships. Character is determined very much by the other stars in
the structure. Your children are intelligent, spiritual and gentle. The one will have a
daughter, then a son. The children have the talent in literature and art. In addition,
they all like cleanness.
2. un-sociable.
5. lonely.
6. idealistic.
7. possible longevity.
1. with positive stars like Wen Chan and Wen Qu, or with good transformation influ-
ences,he provides guardianship and leadership in court he sits in.
2. with more destructive stars like Tuo Luo, Qing Yang, or influenced by Hua ji Trans-
formation energy, he is likened to an aimless wonderer.
3. 天梁is closely affected by Tai Yang. The bright sun makes him more active.
4. at Yin and Shen courts, he is calm and stable. His wisdom brings progress that
comes in due time. With Tian Ma, he’ll tend to wander about.
6. in Wu, Wei and You courts, his leadership is cold and judgmental, disharmony
results.
7. in Mao Courts, his actions are good, and he is effective in maintaining stability in
the structure. With good influences wealth can be created progressively.
8. in Si and Hai Courts, he tends to wander about aimlessly. Good things may come
at a later date if he gets the good influences in his court.
9. in Chen and Xu Courts, he shows leadership. His manner is just and progressive.
judges, officers. (1) The one is good at administration and has stable career. (2) When
the star meets Tian Tone, the one can be solely responsible for one section
common name in English for such an appointment, but from the description, it will
help one to remember that Tiantong is about going for fine taste and pleasure in life,
and not about fighting for achievements in life, or to conquer life. And, by adding the
English word contentment, one would have a good grasp of its basic traits.
Basically, Tiantong the Contentment Star is the least driven to go for high achieve-
ments in life, unless what the person enjoys doing much does provide room for achieve-
ment. This implies that a Tiantong person has to go into trades that he/she loves in the
first place. It could be food and beverages, hospitality trades, beauty trades, the music
industry, and so on, and I realise that an area in the modern world could allow many
young Tiantong people to be accommodated: the computer gaming industry.
Some classic texts described a Tiantong structure that is placed with Lucun the
Treasurer and Hualu the Flow Enhancer as excellent. I beg to differ, if it is not a struc-
ture that comes with Tiankui and Tianyue, the pair of Auspicious Stars that brings
great opportunities. If Tiantong the Contentment Star person is blessed with double Lu
(Lucun and Hualu) but not Tiankui and Tianyue, the subject can become too indulgent
in emotions and hobbies, without determination or any fighting spirit. Rather, it is good
to have an Adverse Star in its structure to provide it with stimulant and drive. Alterna-
tively, a better Tiantong is one that is attached with Huaquan the Power Enhancer, and
the combination makes a person more pragmatic.
A special feature of Tiantong when it is placed in the Self/Wealth/Career Triangle
(Sanfang) is that there are many chances in life to strike out into some hobby business
from scratch, and I call it the start-anew nature.
In interpersonal relationship domains, the blessedness of Tiantong indicates gener-
ally good bonding with the counterparts, except in Love Domain, where its start-anew
nature may also rule, suggesting bad omen for marriage. Thus, Tiantong the Content-
ment Star in Love Domain does not give a straightforward analysis.
The 天同star is a happy-go-lucky star. It lacks direction and a sense of urgency to get
anything done, or to control anything. Often people with the 天同in their main Courts,
like Self, Career, Wealth, find it difficult to come to terms with the fact that good things
come with adversity.
This is because while harmful transformation by Hua Ji, and harmful stars cause
him stress and difficulties, they also help make this star more disciplined and better
able to progress. Good stars and transformations make him happy, but he may not get
anywhere in life and develop unhealthy habits, like promiscuity, substance abuse...etc.
天同also makes it difficult to stick to commitments, so late marriages is advised, or
if the marriage has recovered from a bad patch, chances are, it’ll be good later on.
天同is good in the Karma Court. It’s nice to have a stress-free mind!
People with 天同in the Self Court tend to have these set of qualities:
1. emotionally volatile.
2. opportunistic, pleasure seeking.
3. capable (especially in the case of females), gentle, easy going.
4. longevity; in the presence of helpful stars.
5. lazy and complacent, unless in the presence of harmful stars like Di Kong and Di
Jie, or transformed by Hua Ji. These stars and transformation are harmful, but
makes 天同less complacent.
6. A good structure surrounding the Self court may indicate a lack of ambition, plea-
sure seeker.
天同is an described as emotional, pleasurseeking, happy-go-lucky, lacking ambi-
tion, sentimental Influenced by other stars he can use his mental abilities for different
motives. 天同can be generalised like so:
152 CHAPTER 4. THE FOURTEEN MAJOR STARS
1. with positively artistic stars like Wen Chan and Wen Qu, artistic, flirty, very sen-
sitive and emotional. If there are no harmful stars around, he gets lazy and com-
placent.
2. with more destructive stars like Tuo Luo, Qing Yang, bucks up and is more
thoughtful.
4. at Mao and You court, he is a bright star. He is able to enjoy life and make use of
opportunities. However, if there is a transformation to Hua Ji, or Huo Xing / Huo
Ling he may face difficulties of an emotional nature; but that may make him more
hard working at the same time.
7. in Chou and Wei courts, life can be difficult in early life. It can improve later on
if the structure changes with transformations. Overall it will not be easy probably
because of emotional setbacks.
8. in Yin and Shen Courts, he may start off on a slow footing, but can expect to
develop over time.
10. in Chen and Xu Courts , he is pleasure seeking, and tend to create trouble. Situ-
ation similar to that in Si and Hai Courts.
命宫: 天同loves the good things in life art, music, good food, fine wine. People with 天
同in their Ming love a leisurely lifestyle; things come to them easily so they can be quite
lazy. They are dreamers with a lot of ambition, but little follow-through. They are often
art lovers and collectors. They love a leisurely lifestyle and the good things in life. They
are idealists, with many ambitions but few accomplishments. They are kind-hearted,
very sensitive and easily hurt. They give themselves totally in a love relationship and
are more prone to affairs. 1.Life (1) Like leisurely and carefree life and having the talent
of literature. (2) Makes the shareholder hard to be used to his style
swings. (1) Changeable and frustrated in middle age. The change of the marriage is
listed as below: I.Separation between loved ones in life or death II. Separation due to
the jobs III. One of them (husband and wife) is sick IV. Failure business V. Extramarital
relations affect the original emotions (2)For male I.Has beautiful wife II. Owns wife (in
Tian Kui or Tian Yue) with elegant temperament III. Owns generous wife (Zuo Fu or
You Bi) IV. Owns attractive wife (in Wen Chang or Wen Qu) (3)For female I. Amiable and
beautiful, late marriage will be proper II. A target that man seeks.
4.13 Qi Sha
The representative of this star is Huang Fei Hu. He is the god of fight and handles power
and fierce. He is impetuous and always in danger of something. His face is square and
long, his height is high and body health is good. He doesnt like to be restricted by
others. And the anger and happiness for him can be identified easily.
I Characteristics of the Star 1.Figure and Temper (1)Figure Long and squire face,
high height, strong body, short-tempered, likes to compete with others, possessing
independent spirit (2) Temper Likes to adventure, rebels many things, straightforward,
impatient, display unpredictable temper easily.

good for female, especially if the female wants to procreate. (4)Xing Hua 1.Lucky Star:

suppress the Sha Star, yet it needs time and efforts to conquer. II. Be careful to commit
a crime. (5)Luck The luck for this star is not very well. (6)Career Have good luck in
career.
III Logic 1. Si Hua Tian Fu: No Si Hua Tian Xiang: Assist emperor star and does
not provided any opinions. Chi Sha: A warrior that gives no thought to life and death.
Happiness and power are regarded as external things. Chang Qu: There is only Ji and
with no happiness (Lu) 2.When the Chi Sha gets into life palace, all the stars might be
influenced and have bad luck. The reason is that the one is capricious and not good at
managing money, blundering in attending to business, easy to lose one’s head.
Qi Sha The Risk Taker, Seven Swords Qi Sha is a very strong star, and gives the
ability to take risks. It can indicate an area of our lives where we see things in black
and white only, and where we will not bend.
Other descriptions: Powerful, Strength, Heroic, Severe, Strategist
The level of brightness of the Qi Sha star is shown below:
People with Qi Sha in the Self Court tend to have these set of qualities:
4. Authoritative, regal.
People with Qi Sha in their Ming Gong tend to encounter precarious ups and downs
in their careers. Qi Sha often suggests a situation or person that cannot be controlled.
Influenced by other stars he will exhibit varying hues of character. Qi Sha can be
generalized like so:
2. harmful stars like Tuo Luo, Qing Yang, or influenced by Hua ji Transformation
energy, he can be overbearing and aggressive.
3. Qi Sha is always opposite and thus affected bu Tian Fu. A good structure brings
success to the partnership.
4. With the influence of Hua Lu transformation energy provides for a sparkling mili-
tary career.
5. With the influence of Hua Ji transformation energy, his power is too strict, which
can lead to aggression which can be damaging to the aspect of life.
6. at Yin and Shen courts, he exhibits his rigid power. Positive influence brings
success to the structure.
9. in Mao and You Courts, his character is volatile, and can be too aggressive, unless
softened by Tian Kui/Tian Yue/ Zuo Fu/You Bi.
10. in Si and Hai Courts, he is authoritative and proud. Good influence can bring
much success.
11. in Chen and Xu Courts, he is a strategist; his success depends on the influences
of transformation energies. Good influences will bring progress, while band influ-
ences bring turmoil and potential losses.
4.13.3 Children 子 女 宫
Subject may feel as if being controlled by the whims of his children/ followers/ employ-
ees. You will likely have few children, and they will have very strong characters and
difficult to control. With 37 Qing Yang (The Knife) there could be a miscarriage or a
child with birth defects. (1)Pay attention to miscarriage, abortion or children of defects
(2)Children are active (3) If Chi Sha is in this palace lonely, there are three children for
the one.
1. rebellious.
2. restless.
3. overbearing and stubborn.
4. tireless and energetic; edgy.
5. can be uncommonly skillful.
6. makes unpredictable moves and changes.

manages things.

day and destructive the next. A breaking of pregnancy, i.e., a miscarriage or abortion.
The childrens relationships with each other are also broken.
6 Bad Stars

dent diligence for progress. Tuo Luo therefore dares to attempt and try on new endeav-

pestilence, sexually transmitted diseases, skin related diseases. Might be involved in
very serious or fatal accidents leading to gruesome death or paralysis. Difficult to come
to a peaceful end.
In Career, Self and Karma, it could also mean building something out of nothing,
having a wild imagination, building a career out of creative thinking. Depends on how
one chooses to use it.
In Wealth, it is often bad. So, use the other sectors to create happiness and good

Plundered is also one of Zi Wei Dou Shu’s 6 misfortune stars. It exhibits the prop-
erty of transient changes, like a small boat sailing on choppy waters. Truth be told,
Plundered is a star that in essence seeks changes. Since it naturally seeks changes, it
is capable of accepting changes calmly. At the same time due to its desire for change,
it is unable to consolidate its position resulting in nothing achieved.
地劫个性特征:追求变化,习于变化,更能掌握变化,运用变化。因此练就了在变化中能安
然若定的功夫。
Plundered characteristics: Change seeker, accustomed to change. Capable of com-
manding and using changing circumstances. It has therefore mastered the capacity to
be calm and steady amidst frequent changes.

6.1 化禄
“Transforms into Revenue”also called Fortune, helps bring money, good luck and
helpful people this is the best of the 4 transforming stars.
化禄brings in wealth and prosperity. In the courts that it sits in, luck is expected
from that aspect of life. On the star it influence, it brings out the best of its character,
enables it to be effective in achieving goals, building relationships and gaining wealth.
1. Metal element
2. Means “Transform into Riches”
3. Enhances the flow of fortune, riches, luck etc.
6.2 化权
“Transforms into Authority”also called Power, brings power and authority. Hua Quan
is the re-enforcement energy. It strengthens the quality of the star power. In the courts
that resides this transformation will be the aspect which the subject shines in.
1. Fire element
2. Means Transforms into Authority
3. Brings authority, power, supremacy, leadership etc.
6.3 化科
“Transforms into Reputation”also called Success, brings fame and name. Hua Ke
provides for good reputation and fame. The star that it transforms will be outstanding
in its efficacy. The subject can draw benefit from it’s power to build a good reputation.

2. Means Transform into Reputation
6.4 化忌
“Transforms to Trouble”also called Cloud, is a very inauspicious star that transforms
the star it is attached to negatively. For example, Ju Men with Hua Ji can cause you
to speak tactlessly - Ju Men represents the mouth and Hua Ji brings trouble to the
mouth, thus problems with speech.
Hua Ji is a obstructive energy. It brings out the worst in the star it transforms.
Normally people are sensitive to it since it has a tendency to undo all the good that had
been built up.
Transformation influences explains the ups and downs we face in life. Changes
happen all the time and we just have to face them and make active steps to manage the
situation in a wise manner.
Might also be interpreted as negation.

2. Means Transforms into Trouble
As their names suggest, these Stars are there to support and assist the 14 Major
Stars. They are important, but never more important than the Major Stars.
An analogy to be used here is to liken these Stars to a Manager’s Personal Assistant.
With a good assistant who is there to help out, the Manager would be able to project
his capability more effectively.
For 2 people to have the same Major Stars in their Life Palace, how their lives turned
out would depend on these auxiliary and assistant stars. They are the ones which make
the difference.
1. Firm.
2. Elegant.
3. Hardworking.
左辅:
1. Gentle.
2. Romantic.

172 CHAPTER 7. AUXILIARY AND ASSISTANT STARS 佐辅曜
3. fun-loving.
右弼and 左辅bring wealth to the stars they affect. Without them achievement is
difficult.
These stars, coupled with other helpful stars doubles up the ease of achievement.
As facilitators, in some courts, like marriage, it can bring problems. 左辅, especially
can mean an outsider interfering with the relationship.
左辅when transformed by 化科, indicates someone coming to provide assistance.
• very disciplined, sometimes almost punishing. It is good if the major stars require
this quality to stabilize their over care-free characters.
• In the Self / Career Court, a profession in law and order is suitable.
Star Brightness
Though the stars employed in Ziwei Doushu are merely fictitious symbols, they are
nevertheless accorded with different degrees of brightness, as if they are real stars. It
is one of the attributes that adds sophistication to ZWDS, but at the same time, it also
makes it more daunting to learn the knowledge. Fortunately, star brightness is only
used on the 32 Main Stars.
Traditionally, there are six to seven levels of brightness, but I do not think it is
necessary to be so detailed in application, therefore in my practice and in my teaching,
I have adopted only three levels, namely, bright, neutral and dim.
First of all, it is an attribute to create dynamism in the assessment of the stars.
Especially for the first set of the 14 Major Stars, the diversified characteristics of each
star spans over a range, and some are so wide that complexity are present in the basic
nature of the stars.
Simply, when a star is at its brightest status, all the positive qualities of the star
would manifest more, and its bad qualities reduced to the minimum. On the contrary,
when a star is at its dimmest level, its bad qualities would be the most apparent.
Taking Tianliang for instance. It is about being meticulous and methodical. When
Tianliang is at its brightest, these qualities manifest in a positive way, making the
person astute and insightful. When it is at its dimmest, the same qualities will manifest
in the form of being fussy and stubborn. Imagine when a Tianliang person is in a
powerful position. If he/she is of a bright Tianliang, the person makes a good leader
who can discern easily good policies from bad policies in a very detailed manner due to
the extraordinary insight. If the person were of a dim Tianliang, he/she would be very
dictating, as he/she would stick to the meticulous details steadfastly without relenting.
Star brightness is decided by the position of the star, meaning depending on in what
house it is placed. On the surface, there are no apparent patterns for the different
brightness levels, except for the Sun and the Moon. Therefore, one can only learn to
memorise by heart.
At a more profound level, however, the brightness is determined by several clear
factors, which is a very rare knowledge even among the most learned practitioners of
ZWDS. I keep the knowledge only for the Mastery Class because there is no necessity to
overload a learner at first with such details that do not affect the analysis of a chart at
all. In the first and only Mastery Class I have conducted so far on 1 March 2008, this
knowledge was formally provided to three students.
1. The characteristics of each Star remain constant, for example, if it is a Yin Wood
Star, it will be a Yin Wood whatever palace the Star lands up in.
2. The interpretion of the Stars in various palaces differs. What each Star means in
Life Palace is different when it is in say, Health Palace.
175
176 CHAPTER 8. STAR BRIGHTNESS
3. The interpretion of the Stars is also different when there are other stars in the
same palace, as compared to when it is on its own.
1. MiGlitter - the brightest it can gets. Good Stars with this rating will manifest their
positive traits. Bad Stars will not have serious impact.
2. W- Radiant - Still very bright. Good Stars will display their traits. Bad Stars will
not have serious impact.
3. Dright. Good Stars will still be good. Bad Stars will not have serious impact.
4. P- Twilight. Good Stars will have minimum impact. Bad Stars will display their
negative traits without constraint.
5. XiDark. Good Stars will be useless with this rating. Bad Stars will be at their
worst.
5. Even with the above scale of brightness, the Stars would still not tell a complete
picture, as it depends on what other stars in other relevant palaces they “meet” with.
For example, to see the overall life of a person, the palaces that are taken into
account are Wealth Palace, Career Palace, Life Palace and Travel Palace. The stars in
all 4 of these palaces would then “meet”, and if a particular Glittering Good Star is
sitting in Life Palace, but the other Stars in the other 3 palaces are Dark, then it will
also render the Good Star useless or with no impact.

Personality Reading
personality decides much in life. It is because of certain special quality that a successful
person can scale great heights in life. It is also the lack of certain other quality that halts
him from going higher. Whether one handles the challenges in life well also depends
on one?s personality. One of the most interesting applications of Ziwei Doushu is for
getting to know others? personality as if with an X-ray eye: People can run, but they
cannot hide! Grin
In Ziwei Doushu, Self Domain depicts the traits in a personality that are apparent or
easily known when a person is interacted. Thinking Domain shows those traits that are
hidden from the eyes. For instance, a person may appear to be generous (Self Domain)
but in essence stingy (Thinking Domain). A more critical application will be for checking
one?s integrity. Looking at only Self Domain and not Thinking Domain does not give a
complete personality profile - such is the importance of the Thinking Domain.
While we are not always able to jump to specific conclusions about the life of an-
other person in terms of the consequences of the trends in the chart, analysing a Ziwei
Doushu chart remains as one of the quickest means to assess a personality.
With the information of a personality profile clearly established, it can help one to
maximise his/her potential and to minimise mistakes, especially when it is acquired
well before one makes a vital decision.
For instance, it is going to be a grave mistake when a Lianzhen-Tanlang child is told
to take up engineering courses. Requirements in such courses and a Lianzhen-Tanlang
personality are incompatible. It is the worst scenario for an uninhibited Lianzhen-
Tanlang personality to be restrained by hard and cold minute details in engineering.
Likewise, it is going to be dreadful to a Wuqu kid when he/she is forced to learn bal-
let. Either the parents or the kid, or both parties will be frustrated when it is discovered
later that the kid has no natural talents for such performance arts.
On the business scene, the sales of products like a computer is better handled by
a Jumen person who is more capable to convince with rationality and logic, while a
fashion piece may be easier sold by a Wenqu or Lianzhen salesperson who is more
capable to appeal to the hearts.
These are just a few simple examples to illustrate how we can use the age-old knowl-
edge to maximise life.
As we can use it to profile a personality well, Ziwei Doushu becomes an effective tool
to study the level of compatibility between two or more people too. This can be applied
not only on relationship studies but also for corporate or business establishments to
maximise human resources.
These are what I call contemporary applications.

194 CHAPTER 10. PERSONALITY READING
Commentary - These are the two domains we should interpret together to under-
stand a personality completely. Thinking Domain is the most misunderstood of all
the twelve because of the original Chinese words Fudegong, when fu generally means
blessing and de generally means virtue or karma, but they do not mean those when it
comes to Fudegong. We should call a spade a spade. Self Domain shows the outwardly
apparent personality and the Thinking Domain reveals that part that is hidden.
195
Commentary - Personality analysis. This is the chart of the younger sister of the
engineer, who is about to make a choice of study course. The mother wanted her to be
a teacher, but she has wished to be in hospitality trades. In fact, the girl offered to pay
me extra to dissuade her mother. I have told her there was no such necessity, as the
combinations of her chart show that she would excel in tourism studies/work.

Commentary - Potential maximisation. This chart shows that the subject is born
with the natural capacity of a business person. In fact, she was a homemaker because

the husband was doing well, and she did not need to work. After the children have
grown up, she started some business in a very small way but it grew naturally. In
about ten years, she has four branches.

202 CHAPTER 12. RISK IDENTIFICATION
Commentary - Risk identification. With the power to go for details, ZWDS is certainly
helpful for this function. Slide 32 shows a typical structure that the subject will be
ultimately betrayed by the partner, while the initial period (a year, two years, etc.) does
provide good returns.
Commentary - This is the same chart as in Slide 29. While the lawyer can excel in
his profession well, he is to avoid investments, reading from his Wealth Domain.
Chapter 13
Marriage
This represents the character of the spouse and relationship with spouse. This palace
can also predict whether marriage will end in divorce; whether there will be affairs.
House of spouse represents ones life partner and a 紫微斗数chart does give you the
answer of the partners character, appearance and most of all whether she is supportive
or not. It is also possible to see if the relationship will affect ones quality of life. Gen-
erally, it is not ideal for the House of spouse to be located at the four corners of a 紫微
斗数chart (寅, 巳, 申, 亥) as it represents a relationship that is more prone to external
influences and uncertainties.

108 Stars
The visible stars in the life plate totally are one hundred of eight stars. They are divided
into five grades and described as follows:
205
206 CHAPTER 14. 108 STARS
Jiang Xing, Pan An, Sui Yi, Hui Gai, Sui Jian, Long De, Tian De
The other minor stars are not discerned as Northern stars, Southern stars or Central
stars.
These original groupings served well for classification purpose, but there are better
ways to regroup the stars for more effective learning.
In the early 20th Century, a teacher from the North School (?? Bei Pai), Master
Zhang Kaijuan ??? was the first to classify all the stars according to five degrees of
importance, from Jia class ?? to Wu class ??, for his teaching purpose.
Henceforth, many modern books usually append star tables for quick reference. On
top of giving convenience to a casual reader, this can apparently help a beginner to go
around the daunting task of getting familiar with all the stars that number more than a
hundred in total, but it has also created over reliance and can distract serious learners
from the fact that it is still better to get acquainted with the placement pattern for each
and every star.
