 DIRECTOR’S NOTE

We dedicate our efforts on The Diary of Anne Frank to the memory

of the victims of The Tree of Life Synagogue shooting. Our hearts and
prayers are with their families and friends in their time of sorrow. May
our show honor their memory, and bring about the desire for all who
witness it to sew seeds of peace and love in our world.

God, filled with mercy, dwelling in the heavens’ heights, bring proper
rest beneath the wings of your Shechinah, amid the ranks of the holy
and the pure, illuminating like the brilliance of the skies the souls
of our beloved and our blameless who went to their eternal place of
rest. May You who are the source of mercy shelter them beneath Your
wings eternally, and bind their souls among the living, that they may
rest in peace. And let us say: Amen

12 June 1929
Anne (Annelies Marie) Frank is born in Frankfurt, Germany to parents Otto and
Edith.
30 January 1933
Adolf Hitler becomes Chancellor of Germany. One month later, following an arson
attack on the parliament building (Reichstag), Hitler introduces emergency laws
that repress any political opponents.
20 March 1933
The first concentration camp in Germany opens, at Dachau, near Munich.
24 March 1933
The Enabling Act is passed by the Reichstag giving Hitler powers to rule by decree.
Summer 1933
The Frank family move to Holland to escape the growing persecution in Germany.
1 September 1939
Germany invades Poland in defiance of an Anglo-French ultimatum. Two days
later, Britain and France declare war on Germany. World War Two begins.
10 May 1940
Germany invades the Netherlands, Belgium and France.
12 June 1942
Anne receives a diary for her thirteenth birthday.
5 July 1942
Margot Frank receives a call-up notice from the Nazis to return to Germany to
work in a labour camp. The next day, the Frank family go into hiding in the Secret
Annex above Otto’s offices. They are joined by the Van Pels family one week later
(Anne gave the Van Pels family the pseudonym Van Daan in her diary).
16 November 1942
Dentist Fritz Pfeffer joins the Franks and the Van Pelses in hiding in the Secret
Annex (Anne gave Fritz Pfeffer the pseudonym Albert Dussel in her diary).
4 August 1944
The annex is raided by the security police following an anonymous tip-off. All
occupants and two helpers are arrested and sent to Westerbork transit camp.

 WHO’S WHO IN THE CAST
Amelia (Mia) Devins (Anne Frank) is a junior
and is excited to be participating in her 7th show at
Cathedral. She is so excited and grateful to be playing
Anne Frank in this production, as this experience
has meant so much to her. She would like to thank
Ms. Wilson, because she puts her heart and soul
into these productions and inspires her everyday.
She would also like to thank her family, especially
her sisters who are the reason she does theatre, and
everyone involved in making this show happen. She
hopes that this show will inspire you to see as much
beauty in the world as Anne did.
Ian Grooms (Otto Frank) is honored to be a part of
The Diary of Anne Frank. He is a junior at Cathedral
Catholic High School and graduated from School of
the Madeleine in Bay Park in 2016. Ian previously
served as a member of the ensemble in Grease and a
tech team member for 42nd Street, both with CCHS
Drama. In addition to acting, Ian enjoys being a part
of the CCHS Music program as a choir member. He
has been singing in church and school choirs for the
past eight years. He also served on the Music Council
last year. On campus, Ian is a member of the Rosary
Club and Dons for Life, and enjoys serving his school
community through Campus Ministry. Outside of
school, Ian’s favorite activities include reading, writ-
ing, and cycling by the bay. Ian would like to thank
God, Miss Wilson, Ms. Webb, Emily O’Heir, Matthew
Nguyen, and all of the other extraordinarily talented
cast and crew members who make this show shine.
Janna Shakiba (Edith Frank) is a senior at
Cathedral Catholic High School. She is incredibly
honored to be playing the role of Edith Frank in
Cathedral Catholic’s fall production of The Diary of
Anne Frank. Janna has been doing drama since she
was seven years old and has been a part of the CCHS
Drama program since freshman year. Some of her
previous roles include Sister Helen Prejean in Dead
Man Walking and Lady Catherine de Bourgh in Pride
and Prejudice. Outside of drama, Janna participates
in numerous programs within the Cathedral Catholic
community, including Ambassadors for Christ Corps,
National Honor Society, National English Honor
Society, International Thespian Society, Campus
Ministry, and the California Scholarship Federation.
For fun, Janna likes to play piano, sing, bake, run, and
spend time with her friends and family. Janna would
like to extend a special thank you to Miss Wilson for
making this production possible and continuing to
inspire us every single day. Enjoy the show!
Kelsey Lyons (Margot Frank) is a junior who is
very excited to be in her 7th show at Cathedral!
She has been in many productions at JCompany
including Les Misérables (Fantine), Mamma Mia
(Donna), Ragtime, and West Side Story. She is also
involved in many other various performances in San
Diego. Kelsey wants to thank Miss Wilson, the cast,
her family, and everyone else who made this such a
wonderful and meaningful experience!
Maksil Berhan Lorenzo (Mr. Van Daan) is
excited to be playing Mr. Van Daan in his seventh
production with CCHS Drama. Maksil is a senior at
Cathedral Catholic High School. Maksil’s previ-
ous roles include “Matthew Poncelet” - Dead Man
Walking, “Coach Calhoun” - Grease, “Fakir” - Secret
Garden, “Colonel Fitzwilliam” - Pride and Prejudice,
and “Luke” - Anything Goes. He would like to thank
Ms. Wilson for her never-ending commitment and
love toward CCHS Drama, Ms. Kelle Webb for her
support and smile, and Matt and Esme for their hard
work in tech. He would also like to thank his Mama
and Papa for their love and support as he continues in
the drama program. Lastly, he is so very proud of the
entire Anne Frank crew and cast. Enjoy the show!
Lauren Alberton (Mrs. Van Daan) is honored
to be playing Mrs. Van Daan in CCHS Drama’s pro-
duction of The Diary of Anne Frank. This is Lauren’s
third show with CCHS Drama. Her previous shows
include The Secret Garden (ensemble) and Dead Man
Walking (Woman 4). Lauren is almost completely
recovered from tearing her lateral meniscus and is
thankful for the opportunity she has with CCHS
Drama because of it. Outside the theater, you can find
Lauren supporting the crew team, running Doctor
Who Club, reading, writing about herself in the third
person, drawing, playing piano, belting out musicals,
or spending time with her family, friends, and cat.
She would like to thank her parents, Miss Wilson,
and her friends for supporting her and the entire
cast and crew for making this production her most
memorable yet. Enjoy the show!
 WHO’S WHO IN THE CAST
Maximo Nichols (Peter VanDaan) is a freshman
and this is his 1st CCHS show. He is proud to be
playing, Peter in The Diary of Anne Frank. He has
been in 2 other CYT shows locally. He is an actor and
model who loves to flip. He plays soccer, tennis, runs
cross-country and does kickboxing. He likes travel
and fashion (especially tennis shoes) and wants to be
a high-end designer someday. Maximo would like to
THANK God, his parents for their love and support,
Ms. Wilson for this opportunity and the cast and crew
who will make this show a success. ENJOY the show!!!
Ava Montali (Miep Gies) honored to play the role
of Hermine “Miep” Gies in The Diary of Anne Frank,
her ninth production at Cathedral Catholic High
School. Ava is a seventeen year old senior and has also
appeared in 42nd Street as Ethel, Dead Man Walking
as Sister Colleen, Pride and Prejudice as Kitty Bennet,
and Midsummer Jersey as Sunflower. She would like
to thank the phenomenal Ms. Wilson, Ms. Webb, and
the entire cast and crew of The Diary of Anne Frank.

Dillon Tarle (Mr. Kraler) is grateful to be playing
Mr. Kraler in CCHS Drama’s production of The Diary
of Anne Frank, which is Dillon’s second CCHS Drama
production and first play. Previously Dillon was in
the ensemble for 42nd Street. Dillon is so happy to be
working on the show and enjoys every minute of it.
He loves to read and write and has a strong passion for
history, helping add to his excitement to be a part of
The Diary of Anne Frank. He would like to thank Ms.
Wilson and everyone involved with the production
of the play for all their hard work and encourage-
ment they put into the show. Dillon looks forward to
working with CCHS Drama in the future and hopes
everyone enjoys the show.
Peyton Farmer (Mr. Dussel) is very excited for play
Mr. Dussel in this years production of The Diary of
Anne Frank. Although this is Peyton’s first show with
CCHS, he has done 14 other productions with the
Met2 and has played roles such as Flotsam from the
Little Mermaid, Wickersham Brother from Suessical,
and Fauchlevant from Les Miserables. He is very hon-
ored and hopes to do more CCHS shows in the future.
Zach Trzos (First Person) is excited to be perform-
ing in The Diary of Anne Frank. This will be his 5th
show with Cathedral and he will hopefully be in more.
Zach has played many small roles throughout his
career and hopes to expand his character lost through-
out the years. Zach also loves helping with Tech and is
grateful to have a great tech team. He is also so thank-
ful for Ms. Wilson for all her help and his friends who
help him whenever he needs it. Zach is thankful for the
privilege of your time and is happy that you came to
see the show.
Megan Wagner (Second Person) is a junior at
CCHS. The Diary of Anne Frank is her sixth show
with CCHS Drama. Previous shows include Pride and
Prejudice (Caroline Bingley), Anything Goes (Featured
Dancer), Dead Man Walking (Hope Percy), Grease
(Featured Dancer), and 42nd Street (Featured Dancer).
She is so thankful for Miss Wilson, the cast and crew,
and her friends and family for supporting her and
being such a positive experience in her life. She is so
excited for The Diary of Anne Frank, and she hopes
you enjoy the show!
Erica Ramirez (Third Person) is excited to return
to CCHS drama after last appearing in Grease, 42nd
Street, and Dead Man Walking. Other credits include:
Les Miserables (Young Cosette), Secret Garden (Mary
Lennox), Seussical (Gertrude), You’re a Good Man
Charlie Brown (Lucy), and Billy Elliot (Lead Dancer).
She has also performed in CYC galas as well as in New
York at Stagedoor Manor. She is incredibly grateful to
Ms. Wilson, Ms. Webb and Mr. Nguyen for giving her
a chance to be part of such an inspiring production.

Sophia Bosque (Singer) is so excited to be part
of such a powerful show! Since being cast as part of
the “Teen Chorus” in Bye Bye Birdie her freshman
year, she has been fortunate to have also been cast in
Pride and Prejudice (“Ensemble”), The Secret Garden
(“Alice”), Anything Goes (“Featured Dancer”), and
42nd Street (“Featured Dancer”). Sophia is an active
member of the Ambassadors for Christ Corps, the
Vice President of the National Honor Society, and a
co-founder and co-president of the Disney Club at
CCHS. She plays the cello in the CCHS Orchestra and
String Quartet, writes her own music, and loves to
sing. Sophia is currently a senior and is so grateful to
have been able to be part of such an amazing program
and work with such talented friends for the past three
years, and she looks forward to the rest of this year. She
would love to thank Ms. Wilson, Ms. Webb, tech, and
the whole cast for all they do!
