Each player is equipped with a stopwatch. There is no conductor. ‘The score consists of 57 time-segments or “measures” of 20 seconds each, in which are notated varying sets of “available pitches”. Each player selects one after another of the pitches given for the current time- ‘segment, in any order, but favouring pitches not then sounding in another instrument. Each tone should be preceded and followed by a rest, and sustained for one full bow or breath (on bowed-string and wind instruments), or until the tone has decayed to inaudibility (on piano, harp, guitar, vibraphone, etc.).
