Editorial Illustration

Description of the Assignment

1. Description: Create an editorial illustration for a two-page, magazine article spread based on copy provided by the
instructor. Keep in mind where type (title) will go, how it would read if it were there. Think about the “gutter” as well, you
don’t want anything important to go in that spot. The media for the illustration can be chosen by the student and should fit the
subject matter well – traditional media will be used for this assignment followed by the computer for title and page numbers.
The final print size of the spread is 17”x11” horizontal, you may get larger in proportion, but not smaller. Remember to leave
plenty of bleed-1/2” all the way around, so your image will be 18”x12”.

Requirements
1. The illustration must be rendered in color.
2. Article name should be on your grade slip. The illustration should fit the article.
3. You may stylize this illustration, work with any media you want (hands on) on your choice of paper or board.
4. Illustrators are encouraged to include artistic flair and stylization while maintaining a clear vision of what the article
is about.
5. Keep in mind the basic design element and principles you’ve learned.
6. Background- Important!
