I have chosen to apply for the Xerox Fellows program because I really like that it gives an
opportunity for students who are members of underprivileged families to get involved in
research in their field of study. I am an international student and most of my life I have lived on
my own and with other kids who have been abandoned by their families.
The Xerox Fellows program will also help me achieve my future goal of getting into a Ph.D.
program. Ever since I was a kid I was eager to pursue such a degree because many people told
me I could not do it as I come from a very poor background.  By pursuing a Ph.D. program at a
top-ranked university I will show kids without parental support that we can achieve great
success through education.
I believe I am a competitive candidate for this fellowship due to taking relevant courses such as
Gematrical Optics, Electromagnetic Theory( at a different college not here), Interference and
diffraction and Math for Optics majors. I also posses solid skills in computer science such as in
matlab and python. In addition, I am very eager to acquire new knowledge about laser optics
and GRIN materials.
