OUR OBJECTIVE

Ayur vatika is dedicated to teaching traditional herbal medicine in a way that supports a
more sustainable future for all members of the green world and shows respect for the
integrity of nature. We offer a unique perspective on herbalism, weaving social and
political aspects of health and healing through the study of medicinal herbs and food
practices. We inspire students to find their own healing path by creating a personal
relationship with the plant world. We believe learning happens in a lively environment
where students are engaged with each other and a rich body of work. In particular, we
believe that students need hands-on experiences to ground their intellectual
understandings. Students smell, observe, grow and experience herbs

OUR OBJECTIVE

Revitalising traditions of herbs and their use

The medicinal and herbal plants are the invaluable biological resource, closely associated with
health care, cuisine, traditions, and culture. These plants have been grown or collected for
thousands of years, and the traditional knowledge about the plants and their uses has been
handed down by word of mouth from generation to generation. But with the change in lifestyles,
the younger generation is losing this knowledge. We urgently need to help young people learn
about the fascinating world of herbal plants, their many uses, and the joy of seeing them grow
and using them, whether in town or country.
The ’Promoting of Ayur vatika in our Schools‘ initiative was started to help students, teachers,
and families learn about, and recognise the importance of, the medicinal plants that are part of
our everyday life. At the same time, we aimed to raise awareness of the need for conservation
and sustainable use of biodiversity resources, particularly the medicinal and aromatic plants of
the Himalayas, and what individuals can do.
