1. The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel: One of my favorite
shows of all time. This is about a woman in the late more than PG-13 at times. You can find it on Netflix.

2. Naruto: Ok, so anime might not be your thing, but
this one is totally worth it. Naruto is a kid from the
Village Hidden in the Leaves and he is working hard
to be the best ninja in the land. You get to watch him
fight and grow up with all his friends in over 700
episodes. If you’re looking for something to binge
for the whole year this would be a great choice. It is
funny and clever, although a little violent at times.
You can find this on various anime websites, like
Crunchyroll or just on Netflix.
3. The Good Place: Another short, feel good show to
add to your Netflix list. The Good Place follows El-
eanor, a rude, obnoxious, recently deceased woman,
and her adventure in the seemingly perfect afterlife.
However, her actions in life don’t reflect those of the
other people who made it into the Good Place. It’s a
hilarious show that’s easy to binge. There are only
two seasons on Netflix, but they are both fantastic
The Democratization of High Fashion
How Virgil Abloh’s menswear collection harks a new era for the
fashion industry

On June 21st, 2018, Virgil Abloh unveiled
the Louis Vuitton Spring 2019 menswear collec-
tion, showcasing his first designs as the new artistic
director the brand’s menswear. On face, the show
resembled a regular fashion show: models walked
the runway as an audience admired the designs. Al-
though the show functioned normally, it showcased
much more than the clothes. Virgil Abloh’s Louis
Vuitton Spring 2019 Menswear collection show
represented the culmination of a fairly recent trend:
the democratization of high fashion. Virgil Abloh
isn’t just a recently appointed menswear designer;
he’s the first black artistic director in Louis Vuitton
history and one of the only black designers working
for a major European fashion house. The audience
at the show wasn’t solely comprised of the audience
you would expect at a fashion show: other design-
ers, models, business moguls and upper-class ce-
lebrities, all of 40+ years of age. Although Abloh’s
show did contain that demographic, a lot of the
people sitting adjacent to the runway were young
rappers, designers, and social media influencers.
4. Master of None: Anyone who likes Aziz Ansari
will love this show. You follow Dev through his ev-
eryday life while he manages issues in his love life,
like a funny commentary on life and all the things a
two seasons you will fall in love. Although I must
warn you not to watch it in public. It gets a little
show on Netflix with only two seasons.

One of the best feelings in
the world is taking that deep breath
of crisp mountain air, and taking the
plunge down a steep mountain slope.
It fills you with adrenaline, it electrifies
you and spurs you on. As you carve
your way down the mountain, the air
gets warmer and warmer, and seems
to pull you back to the bottom. When
you finally get there, it’s time to do it
all over again. Of course, no one has
to start out on the harder slopes when
skiing. It is truly a sport for everyone,
no matter how confident you feel in
your abilities. You can start out on the
calm beginner slopes, or take lessons
with an instructor. If you’re advanced,
go ahead and try out the steepest hills,
or the insane terrain parks. The sport
can be done alone, or with friends. It
creates an awesome environment for
bonding and having a blast with your
group. It brings you together with the
shared experience of the activity. It
creates great memories, whether it’s
with family, friends, or a loved one.
Skiing also creates an escape from the
gloomy weather, and dull weekends
at home. It always provides some-
thing fun to do, and a way to stay sane
during the winter season. Besides, it’s
a great workout and an amazing way
leave you sore after just a day of the
activity. In fact, you can burn up to

normally not offer many sports. Also,
skiing is an activity that you can do
throughout your lifetime. It doesn’t
matter if you’re old or young, every-
one can have fun doing it. Besides,
the sport is a great way to meet new
people, whether it be on the slopes or
on a chairlift. Great friends can come
up the mountain together. Everyone is

1. Stop caring about small things. It
doesn’t matter if you got left on read,
it doesn’t matter if you forgot your
headphones, so stop blowing those
things out of proportion and letting
them ruin your day.
2. Set realistic goals that you won’t
dread accomplishing. Making unrea-
sonable goals sets you up for failure.
Create goals that will work with your
lifestyle and goals that you will feel
proud and happy of accomplishing.
3. Commit to something. Dedicate 30
minutes every day to read a book or
practice an instrument or do some-
thing else productive that you enjoy.
4. Start doing things you genuinely
enjoy.
5. Be independent for once. You’re
the only person that will be by your
side forever, so learn how to enjoy
being by yourself and following your
own lead.
6. Learn effective ways on reducing
stress that are convenient and work
for you.
7. Stop procrastinating (I say as I
write this the day before it’s due lo-
lol). But seriously the day an essay is
assigned just write the intro. The day
you’re given a sheet of homework,
start even just one problem. This will
help you feel more productive and
confident in your classes.
8. Start to record how much screen
time you use on your phone and
reduce it.
9. Realize that not everything you do
has to have a reason behind it. You
wanting to do it makes that a valid

10. Be more conscious of what you
say and how it affects the people
around you.
11. Find something you’re passionate
about and pursue it. You like to sing?
Join choir. Enjoy writing? Join the
Round Table.
12. Ask for academic help when you
need it. As soon as you are intro-
duced to a topic you don’t under-
stand, ask questions. Stop asking for
help the night/day before a test and
then thinking you’re going to fully
understand it.
13. Focus on the good in your life.
Are you doing well in a class you
don’t usually do well in? Have you
been getting really good sleep? Are
you getting along with your siblings?
Be grateful for these things and don’t
just start noticing when things go
wrong.
14. Eat healthier and drink more wa-
ter. That means something different
for everyone so just accommodate to
your needs.
15. Show the people in your life you
care about them. Send your grandma
a text telling her to have a good day,
facetime old friends, etc. etc.
16.Be a nicer human being.
You can make New Year’s res-
olutions at any time of the year.
New Year’s isn’t really special or
meaningful, but we pretend it is,
so remember you can make goals
and better yourself at any time and
don’t have to wait until January to
do it. You’ve only got one life, so try
and make the best out of it. Make it
as meaningful as you can and be a
good, confident person.
A Look Into the IB
The International Baccalaureate
Program from a local and global
perspective

About five years ago, Saint George’s began its
journey as an International Baccalaureate World School.
According to a 2012 Spokesman Review article by Jody
Lawrence-Turner, “the program seemed like a natural fit”
for Saint George’s. In the same article, former Head of
School, Joe Kennedy, who oversaw the implementation of
the program, noted that Saint George’s wouldn’t have to
make too many changes to conform to IB requirements.
“Our curriculum would segue easily into the IB,” he said.
In addition, Kennedy noted that the “school was looking
to be more globally recognized,” and that the “IB is con-
sidered the most rigorous program in the world.”
According to its mission statement, “The Inter-
national Baccalaureate (IB) aims to develop inquiring,
knowledgeable and caring young people who help to
create a better and more peaceful world through intercul-
tural understanding and respect.” The mission statement
was first drafted in 1998, thirty years after the founding
of the IB in 1968. The framework for the program was
laid by French teacher Marie-Thérèse Maurette in 1948
with her book “Educational Techniques for Peace. Do
They Exist?” In the 1960s, some educators from Geneva,
Switzerland developed the International Schools Exam-
inations Syndicate, which later became the International
Baccalaureate Organization. Today, the IB Program is still
headquartered in Geneva and has been directed by Dr.
Siva Kumari since January 2014.
In the United States, 945 schools offer the Inter-
national Baccalaureate Diploma Program. Saint George’s
is one of only 23 schools in Washington that offers the
program, along with Renton, Skyline, and Sumner High
Schools. Lake City High School, in Coeur D’Alene,
eliminated the IB from its school in 2012 due to reduced
funding and falling enrollment in the program. This was
met with some frustration from teachers and students
alike, but the school has reverted to offering solely the
Advanced Placement (AP) program. This makes Saint
George’s the only school to offer the IB program in East-
ern Washington and Northern Idaho.
At Saint George’s, students can choose whether
to participate in the IB program. Students who opt out
will only receive certificates in each class, which count
for credit at some universities. Students who choose to
pursue an IB Diploma must take on several extra respon-
sibilities, one of which is to take three classes at a higher
level. This means that they delve deeper into certain
aspects of the study. In addition, students must complete a
CAS (Creativity, Activity, Service) project, write a 4,000-
word Extended Essay in a field of their choice, and take
an epistemology class that explores the theory of knowl-
edge. The diploma program also counts for college credit
at some universities.
