Bottle A contains a mixture of milk and water in 6 : 1 ratio and Bottle B contains a mixture of milk

and water in 9 : 5 ratio. In what ratio of volumes should the liquids in Bottle 1 and Bottle 2 be
combined to obtain a mixture of milk and water in 5 : 2 ratio?
Solution :
Let ‘7a’ and ‘14b’ be the volumes of the two Bottles to be mixed.
    Volume of milk in Bottle A = 6a and in Bottle B = 9b
    Volume of water in Bottle A = a and in Bottle B = 5b
    Volume of milk in the final mixture (V1)= 6a + 9b and
volume if water in final mixture (V2)= a + 5b
Now, V1 : V2 = 5 : 2
->    a = b
->     Ratio of volumes = 7a/14b = 1 : 2

The points (4, 7) and (10, 11) are two end points of a diagonal of a rhombus. If the other diagonal
has the equation 2y = -3x + c, then c is
Solution :
Diagonals of a parallelogram intersect each other at mid-point.
                Mid-point of (4,7) and (10,11) = (x, y) = ((4+10)/2, (7+11)/2) = (7, 9)
                Now putting the value of x and y in the given equation, we get,
                c = 2y + 3x = 2*9 + 3*7 = 39

How many different pairs (a, b) of positive integers are1 there such that a ≠ b and
1/a+ 1/b= 1/10
Solution :
Above equation can be arranged as (a – 10) (b – 10) = 100
(a – 10) (b – 10) = 1*100, i.e. (a, b) = (11,110) or (a, b) = (110, 10), 2 ways
(a – 10) (b – 10) = 2*50, 2 ways
(a – 10) (b – 10) = 4*25, 2 ways
(a – 10) (b – 10) = 5*20, 2 ways
(a – 10) (b – 10) = 10*10, both ‘a’ and ‘b’ will be same
->    8 pairs possible.
