HTSB Standard 10: Leadership & Collaboration – Rationale

The artifacts that I have chosen to satisfy standard 10 are: a) math department meeting
minutes b) growth mindset school initiative flyer c) parent/teacher communication/meeting
(email) and d) math tutoring flyer. Article a) is evidence that comes from a math department
meeting. I had the opportunity to actively write them out as the meeting was in progress. The
meeting allowed us to collaborate on assessments, 8th grade transitions, and movement of
students contingent on feedback and mastery throughout the first 2 weeks. Our meeting was a
great way to share ideas with one another and make decisions to improve student learning.
Artifact b) is a flyer that was issued by our Principal in a school wide effort to build a shared
vision of growth mindset for our students. The flyer is posted in my classroom to encourage a
culture of hard work, embracing challenges, setting goals, and inspiration through others’
success. As teachers pushing a growth mindset agenda, we collaborate using the flyer to
exemplify what growth mindset looks like. Evidence c) is an email conversation with a parent of
one of my students. This email communication demonstrates our collaboration to improve her
daughter’s performance within my class. Upon our meeting, we discussed what resources are
available to her daughter within and outside the classroom. Additionally, I highlighted alternative
supports that are available outside of the classroom, such as after school math tutoring. The
email and meetup collaboration allowed me to work with my student and her family to ensure the
quality and support of learner development and performance. Last but not least, article d) is a
flyer of our after school math tutoring program that I help support and co-lead with two other
math teachers. The after school math tutoring program allows me to serve in a leadership role by
serving students in need of support and additional help. Moreover, this program gives me the
opportunity to advocate for struggling students to provide them with a medium to develop and
achieve their desired goals in mathematics. Finally, I am able to advocate for my profession by
being a leader and role model to students.
