0 METHODOLOGY

The soil sample used for both studies was collected using the method of disturbed sampling.
The properties of the soil used in both investigations are given in Table 1, which is separated
between cement with Rice Husk Ash (RHA) and cement with copper slag. The overall
geotechnical properties for both soils used during the test was classified as clay.

Table 1: Soil properties

Soil for Cement + RHA Soil for Cement + Copper

Slag
Specific Gravity 2.69 2.71
Liquid Limit (%) 49.5 34
Plastic Limit (%) 24.4 25
Plasticity Index (%) 25.1 9

Both of these soil sample will go through a compaction test and Unconfined
Compression Test (UCT) to determine which admixture for cement is the best for clay soil.

2.1 Sample Preparation

2.1.2 Cement and Rice Husk Ash

The tests were conducted three times with three different percentages of RHA, 0%, 2%, 4%,
6% and 8% then mixed with soil. The curing period for the cement was set for 7 days, 14
days, and 28 day. But for this review, we will be only using the data from 28 days to compare
the performance between cement with copper slag and cement with RHA to make the
comparison as balanced as possible. For every test, 6% cement remained constant for every
test and mixed with the soil-RHA mix to get adequate cementation property to the mix [1].
2.1.3 Cement with Copper Slag

The tests were conducted with cement contents of 0%, 2%, 4% and 6% by Jaber Shahiri and
Mojtaba Ghasemi, 2017. But for this review, we will be only using the data from 6% cement
to compare the performance between cement with copper slag and cement with RHA with
cement 6%. The copper slag contents of 0%, 5%, 10%, 15% and 20% by weight [2]. The
curing period set for cement on this research was 28 days, 60 days, and 90 days. For
comparison purpose, only data from the curing period of 28 days will be used.
