School Students By: Emily Bassett What is the goal for Freshman using Naviance?
● Naviance is an assessment tool
that provides students with college and career planning.
● Using the assessments within
Naviance, students can gain a better understanding of their strengths, interests, and goals. Naviance Assessments for Freshman Strengths Explorer: This assessment identifies strengths and interests that students have through a set of likert scale questions.
When I show students this
assessment, I remind them that there is no wrong answer. It is all about them! Naviance Assessments for Freshman Career Interest Profiler: After completing the Strengths Explorer, students are given a report that can then be used to identify specific careers catered to their strengths and interests.
I remind students that the
careers listed are suggestions and in no way definitive to what they have to pursue! Outcomes from the Assessment As Freshman, Naviance can provide an opportunity for self discovery. By understanding some of their strengths and interests, they may be able to create a college or career goals for themselves.
With the implementation of a goal, freshman
can start to plan for their future. This includes picking the right classes and taking advantage of opportunities that works towards their college and career goals. Using Naviance at Falmouth High School During the winter of 2020 I ran groups for Freshman to help introduce them to Naviance, help set up their accounts and take specific assessments.
Within this group, I had them identify at least
one goal after completing the Strengths Explorer and Career Interest Profiler.
Following these groups, I was able to meet
individually with students to discuss their goal(s) and start to come up with a plan.
